Airball RetroZone;Tengen (Novatrade)2007Well, I can't say that games which use the typical "Knight Lore"-style gameplay are something that make me get excited. They tend to get confusing and not worthwhile to play nowadays. But Airball is one of the better clones with rather fast and fluent gameplay and a nice background tune. There are three difficulty levels. So there is the right option for every kind of player. I appreciate that this game made it to a kind of official release in 2007.***[SIC]
[b]Can you outwit the wizard before he deflates your existance?[/b]

"Now you are really in trouble," said the evil wizard Navi, "for I am turning you into a ball and sending you into my dungeon with over 250 rooms! If that sounds easy I'm telling you it's not, because you have a fatal slow leak and you must find a room with a pump or you will surely die! Do not pump yourself up too much or you will explode in a rubbery mess."

Explore the wizard's 3D isometric dungeon through 3 difficulty levels. Each level the items are rearranged and new challenges are added. The printed manual includes some Game Genie codes to make your quest easier.

Much more than a reproduction, this original game cartridge is built using all new parts. No donor carts were harmed in the making of this game.

AVARICE: The Final Saga Continuous Software Systems;Stardock (Stardock;Continuous Software Systems)1996MSRP: $69.95

This was billed as a Myst-Killer yet many fans and critics consider it to be a quit different and still superior game that has much more to offer than the technical features the developers brag about.
[Zerothis]***You weren't even aware that the mysterious and famous billionare Mr. O'Hara was your uncle until you received a surprise letter from him inviting you to his island retreat.

When you arrive, you are not alone, you and a number of other guests who are referred to as "contestants" soon discover that your uncle is missing. Rumors abound that your uncle has hidden millions of dollars in rare jewels somewhere in his vast mansion. But a deeper mystery surrounds his disappearance and his house seems to be hiding a much more sinister secret.

Now you must discover what happened to your uncle and what his plans were. The fate of the entire world may hang in the balance.

Avarice is arguably the most advanced adventure game ever developed for the PC on any platform. While similar to Myst and Riven in basic user interface, Avarice uses the built in power of OS/2 to create a truly dynamic world. Everything in the Avarice world can be touched and manipulated. More than just an adventure/mystery game, Avarice's goal is to make the player feel immersed in its game world. The library is a real library with real books that can be read from cover to cover. Food can be picked up, broken apart, burned, cooked, eaten, etc. The only limit in Avarice is your imagination!

Battle Kid 2: Mountain of Torment RetroZone (Sivak Games)2012 NESlabelimageminimize
Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril RetroZone (Sivak Games)2009A homebrew platformer inspired by an incredibly hard game called "I Wanna be the Guy". Battle Kid is only slightly easier in that there are few 'hidden' dangers. Everything is usually laid out where the player can see. Werther the danger is recognized by the player is another matter. There is only one hitpoint and one life. There is the occasional password checkpoint 'save'. The screens do not scroll, this is by design. Leaping from screen to screen without ever being sure what to expect keeps the player on their toes. All the music is original compositions exclusive to this game.

SIV-BK-GBL is the standard version
SIV-BK1-LE is the limited edition signed and numbered version, only 33 manufactured.

Bonanza Bros.  Sega;Tec Toy (Sega)1991Mobo and Robo Bonanza are enjoying their favorite television show when the picture crackles and a shadowy figure of a mysterious stranger appears on screen. This figure asks them to collect certain items that he has placed inside various buildings to test his security force. If they return the items successfully, Mobo and Robo will be rewarded. The two of them state that they will get the job done in just three minutes. However, little do they know that each building is packed with security guards who will raise the alarm if they are caught red-handed. Fortunately both Mobo and Robo are equipped with bullets that can knock the guards unconscious for a few seconds. An $100 reward will be given out if Mobo and Robo are apprehended.

As either Mobo or Robo, you must collect all the treasures before leaving the ten buildings and shoot any security guards that get in your way. Remember that you are under a time limit. An in-game map will help you locate the treasures. There is a bonus stage after three buildings, where the object is to collect the gold bars in a limited amount of time without one of the three spotlights shining on you. If it is possible, hide behind open doors. If you manage to get all the gold bars, 10,000 points is added to your score. There are three of these bonus stages, but each of them varies.

Bubble Bath Babes  Panesian;Hacker International (Hacker International;C&E Inc)19911 player or 2 players simultaneous.
This game was modified under the direction of American Video Entertainment to remove its porn content. The result was Mermaids of Atlantis. A comment by Phil Mikkelson is included on this page.
[Zerothis]***It [Bubble Bath Babes] was a Bubble Popping/Tetris/Strip/puzzle game where each time you got 10,000 points you would see one of 6 girls with and without cloths. To release it in the States (since Americans can't handle tits) we had to replace the 12 images of girls with something else. We came up with a liner story that unfolded in 12 pictures and we changed the game into a Bubble/Tetris/Little Mermaid/puzzle game.

Eastern Front 1941 Atari Program Exchange;Atari1981EASTERN FRONT 1941 is a simulation of Operation Barbarossa, the German Invasion of Russia during World War 11. The campaign that this invasion started lasted nearly four years and swept away perhaps 20 million lives.
You play the part of the German commander, maneuvering your combat units to obtain a good position before the winter sets in and the Russian counteroffensives begin.***

[48]***Orginally published by APX in September 1981. RX8039 12k cart was published by Atari in 1982. A 3rd package, The Eastern Front Source Code Kit, was published by APX.

Crawford began developing games because he was unhappy with the state of the industry. In an effort to improve the industry, he published a special package of Eastern Front that included the source code (which he owned, not atari or APX) for $150. While a surprising number bought the package, nobody used any of the code in their stuff. Apparently people just wanted to see how the game worked.

Final Fantasy VII  Shenzhen Nanjing Technology2006Its [game=#11134]Final Fantasy VII[/game] trimmed down to fit on a 4 megabyte Famicom cartridge. Its an unauthorized pirate but a lot of effort seems to have been put into it. It is an original conversion, not just a hack. A few characters, a lot of dialog, a few land masses, and some features are missing. But, the overall story/script is preserved.

There are several interesting technical quirks about this cartridge. There is no CHR-ROM hardware/chip(s), rather the graphics (CHR data) are stored and generated from the two 2mb PRG ROM chips then transfered to a RAM chip at runtime. The RAM chip effectively replaces a CHR ROM chip. Also, the code is unusually linear, storing related story data, level data, conversation data and cut scene data in the same areas and chronologically throughout the ROM chips.

Nightshade  Ultra Games (Beam)1991It is Mankind's Darkest Day!The shadows of doom grow long as the ancient Egyptian villain Sutekh envelops Metro City with a wave of crime. But Sutekh's seedy underworld is about to be infiltrated by a superhero unlike the world has ever seen. A superhero who can melt into the darkness like a phantom.
By day this brave new crimefighter is a common ordinary citizen. But when night falls, he is cloaked in a secret identity to seek out and destroy the dark forces that lurk on midnight streets. Who is this man the press calls Nightshade? Only you can answer that...for he is you.
Every night you solidify your superhero status, patrolling one hundred of the city's darkest corners, including King Rat's filthy underground hideout and the League of Unreasonable Gentlemen. Here you'll find thieves, muggers and other alley scum that you must either deal with or destroy for clues. But be warned. You're not the only night stalker. For as you hunt Sutekh, Sutekh hunts you with the human printing press, the closing wall of spikes, deadly jackal pits, and the chilling freeze ray.
To overcome these treacherous obstacles, you must seek out hidden weapons, including energy domes, force gloves and The Staff of Ra. More importantly, you must use problem solving skills to outsmart five crime kings who hold the inner secrets to Sutekh's Lair.
Of course the ultimate key to destroying Sutekh is your popularity. For it's a power source that gives you the wits to decipher clues and the strength to pulverize villains and rescue innocent bystanders. Remember. If this heroic prowess ever diminishes, you'll no longer control the night. You'll be consumed by it.

The premise of this game is that it was invented by the ancient Egyptians. Its a Tetris like game that includes shapes with bricks cut in half diagonally. This makes it extremely difficult to build a row. It could have been better titled "Curse of the Bricks". The description of the game on the back of the box is uniquely laid out in the shape of a triangle. Despite the official description, pieces function like the original Tetris bricks and cannot be "twisted" into place.

While there is proof that AVE published this game in the USA, its possible Thin Chen Enterprise did so also. There are 72-pin NES carts in NTSC format of this game marked Sachen, but no proof they were sold in the USA. Thin Chen Enterprise did however, file a US patent for the game, which makes a US release much more likely. Also, Thin Chen Enterprise Company, Ltd (Sachen) registered a US copyright (TX-3-038-106) 1990-06-16 for "Pyramid I" and recorded that the work was published on 1990-07-10 (the Japanese publishing date)

The Hacker International version includes nudity but is not immediately distinguishable from the other famicom versions. Usually they have a blue & gold label.

This is a tennis game with a bit of arcade action. Hitting the ball with the left had is done by pressing (B), right is (A). There are 6 characters and 3 courts to choose from. The courts are grass, clay, or hard. English is easier to perform on the hard court, so this give the advantage to the computer players. Grass makes it hard to control the ball with spin. Spin is placed one the ball by holding a direction when beginning a swing. For this reason, one can supposedly watch the computer players to see what kind of spin the put on the ball. Each player is supposed to have a specialty.

[*]Chang, chop
[*]John, straight ball
[*]David, smash
[*]Michael, Impast
[*]Charly, drive[/list]
However, the alternate version of the game does not seem to make a difference in which player you choose.

In two player mode, the game is played as doubles with the team two human players against a team of two computer players. There is no player verses player mode.

Sometimes a large rat will wander onto and around the course promoting the characters to make comments. If anyone manages to hit the rat, their team will win the round.

Secret Scout in the Temple of Demise  Color Dreams1991Originally intended to be a game based on the Six-Million Dollar Man TV show, but Color Dreams failed to obtain a license. The best they could so was get a Lee Majors license (Lee Majors played the Six-Million Dollar Man). The game was started as "Lee Majors Game". But, Color Dreams apparently did some number crunching and decided that the Lee Majors license wouldn't help their sales enough for the cost. It was released as Secret Scout instead.
Since "The Six-Million Dollar Man" game is somewhat well known for as a Color Dreams game, the working title is included in this entry. They are one in the same.

[33]***This is the second game in Bandai's Family Trainer Series. You can compete against the computer or a second player in four different disciplines with the special "Power Pad" peripheral. While the game is fun for a short while and features a not so bad 3D effect for its time, only four different disciplines are not enough variety and the controls are very similar in each discipline. On an emulator this game is ridiculously easy due to the fact that pressing buttons on a keyboard is much faster than running on the Power Pad.***Bandai created the Family Trainer and sold it in Japan. They created 10 games for it including one called "ランニングスタジアム" (Running Stadium)(1986). This game was renamed "Stadium Events" and packaged with the peripheral, which was also renamed "Family Fun Fitness", and test marketed by Bandai in a limited number of Woolworths departments stores in North America (1988). Nintendo then decided to purchase the North American rights to the peripheral and games. The Renamed them yet again to "Power Pad" and "World Class Track Meet" and recalled the previous packages (1988).
World Class Track Meet and Stadium Events are the exact same game, sold in different packages. The Stadium Events package is the rarest licensed NES game ever be released for public sale with only 10 known NIB (new-in-box) copies and 300-800 used 'in the wild' and has sold for up to $5,600.01.

This was the last game actually professionally published in the USA for the NES. However, it was unlicensed. While Sunday Funday bears a resemblance to Menace beach, The Ride and Fish Fall were likely original publishings. Fish Fall was developed at Color Dreams under the name Free Fall. Color Dreams was a fully separate company by the time of this game's release and currently going through bankruptcy; but had transfered the rights to all their games to Wisdom Tree (which would later be bought by BridgeStone Multimedia Group). However, there is apparently one known prototype of a a fully finished Free Fall.

This is a vertical scrolling shooter but it has a story. and a less than completely linear structure. Hood claims to have a way to bombard the Earth with meteorites. He will do so if the Thunderbirds do not give him their vehicles in 60 days. The Thunderbirds determine that he must have a very powerful energy source to backup his threat but it won't be finished for 60 days. Which is the reason for his demands and deadline first, rather than him announcing his threat with a meteorite. They set out to find his source of energy before the deadline it up.
The player choose from several missions per round which is also a choice of which Thunderbird and corresponding vehicle to pilot. Completing a mission or combination of missions will unlock additional ones. There are no in-game clues to the unlocking pattern and it has to be learned by experience. their are (apparently) 12 possible missions. The missions themselves are pretty standard vertical scrolling shooting with powerups dropped from exploding enemies that are lost when the vehicle is damaged. Enemies with powerups glow red. The ship has 3 hit points that can be recovered (1 HP per powerup). You can gain better weapons and also wingmen to help blast an odd assortment of enemies. Should a ship lose all its hit points, it must be grounded for 3 days for repairs. That's 3 days closer to the deadline. Successfully completing a stage costs 1 day. Other than this deadline, all 5 pilots (and vehicles) effectively have infinite lives.
