Jagged Alliance: Back in Action Kalypso Media (Coreplay)2012Jagged Alliance Back in Action is a contemporary remake of the latest title in the much-loved Jagged Alliance series of turn-based mercenary-themed strategy games.

Designed from the ground up to offer a modern gaming experience, Back in Action showcases an updated isometric 3D look and interface, highly detailed character models and a variety of new gameplay features. Back in Action takes players to the fictitious country of Arulco, where a ruthless dictator has seized power and only a small group of rebels stand to resist him. Back in Action’s innovative "plan & go" combat system combines real-time strategy (RTS) with turn-based elements to guarantee that the intricacies of tactical warfare are rendered in dynamic, exciting gameplay. This challenges would-be commanders to master not only strategy and tactical combat, but also to maximize their team’s capabilities through RPG-like character advancement.

Key features:
* Unrivaled mix of combat (tactics), roleplay, business and strategy
* Innovative "Plan & Go" combat system combines RTS gameplay with turn-based elements

Natural Selection 2  Unknown Worlds Entertainment2012Initial impressions, and what I've been hearing from other players and actually long term beta testers, is that the game itself is extremely stacked for marine side winning. The original NS was fairly balanced, but this new one just isn't even close. Currently I can't recommend this for anyone due to this massive imbalance (it really requires that the marine commander is Really Bad, anything else doesn't really matter that much), but unless they fix the balance issues, people who are interested in this or were fans of the original, are better off with the original. Outside of the balance issues this Could become a good successor for the original.***Originally NS2 was supposed to use Source engine but this was scratched due to technical problems with it and licensing costs, instead UW went and created their own game engine. Risen Deep Silver (Piranha Bytes)2009Un juego de acción/RPG que combina bastante bien la exploración y un ligero plataformeo con combates de corte sencilla.

Notable las diferentes reacciones de los diversos enemigos (agresivos, territoriales...)

7 sobre 10***The game left me feeling it was incomplete and that the main plot had a lot to be desired of. The side quests were however fairly entertaining and far better (and time consuming) than the main plot, giving this a bit of an impression on Elder Scrolls series which also thrives from side-quests rather than the main plot.

However, unlike most RPGs ever, player can actually fight and defeat end-game opponents fairly early on as combat is mainly based on player skill rather than numbers (attributes, statistics, etc.), though due to lacking numbers these will take a bit more time. Even the final boss is beatable with fairly low level character (maybe as low as 10) since it's not that dependent on player having any numerical advantages. Levels mainly making combat go faster because you deal more damage and makes mistakes more forgiving, but they don't really help you fight the enemy, since levels do not make you immune to shield breaks, enemy dodging, or cause you to dodge automatically.

Overall this is fairly enjoyable game, but loses most of its appeal once you have nothing else than the main plot to do (around chapter 2 or 3). The ending is also disappointing as it does not really solve the original issue at all. Variety of smaller bugs can make the game experience jarring and the jest spell not having any effect it is claimed to have (beyond making characters laugh) despite frequent claims that it does, does make the game feel rushed.***An epic story in an authentic world hand-crafted with an eye for detail and populated by "real", plausible characters. A Mysterious Volcanic Island The heavy tremors on the island bode ill for its inhabitants. Ancient temples have risen from the ground recently, bizarre creatures are terrorising the area. Fear and terror is spreading among the population. The End of All Hope? A group of powerful men who call themselves "The Inquisitors" have taken it upon them-selves to put an end to these events. They send an exhibition to this remote island, but a storm takes hold of the ship and destroys it at sea. A Hero Will Come - As if by a miracle, the player survives the shipwreck and is stranded on the volcanic island alone. He finds himself amidst a chaos of rebellion, tyranny and mystic rituals. He must now decide to which side the pendulum of fate will swing.***Very similar to Gothic series which was also by Piranha Bytes.

6 de 10***At its core, Space Pirates and Zombies is an action based, skill oriented, top down space combat game. It’s similar to the ones we knew and loved in years past, but now using full physics simulation and modern graphics for those oh so pretty explosions. But as you dig deeper, SPAZ becomes much more.

Instead of flying a single ship, you are in charge of an ever growing and evolving fleet, unlocking the rich tactical elements of SPAZ, all accessed at the touch of a button. Issue orders, change ships, apply fleet AI settings, all on the fly. At any moment the battle can change, and the Tactics Panel gives you the tools to make the battle turn in your favor.

As a layer on top of the action and tactics, we have a detailed technology and levelup system akin to what you would expect from an RPG. Learn to build new ships by destroying your enemies. Explore the galaxy to find components, use your hard earned research points to unlock their potential, and then customize every aspect of your new fleet.

Finally, there is the universe in which all this strife and adventure takes place. SPAZ features a persistent randomly generated Galaxy populated with story elements, factions, enemies, missions, items, to provide you with a unique experience each time you play. While you are struggling to survive, uncover the secret of an ever expanding Zombie infestation that spreads by establishing its own real time multi-tiered ecosystem.

Key features:

Starsector  Fractal Softworks2013Unique-ish features:
* Flux - increased by having shields up, firing most weapons, shields getting hit, voluntarily increasing it, etc.
... only beneficial thing high flux currently has is that energy weapon damage is increased with it
... ship becomes disabled for a time when flux capacitors reach their limit
... flux can be vented, eliminating it completely, but this disables shields
* Missiles (e.g. Salamander MRM) that flank their targets to hit the target's engines.
* Player can transfer command staff to any other ship during combat (this sends a passenger shuttle flying between the ships), can be done safely outside of combat
* Player can delegate all control of the flagship to AI.***The Domain of Man is no more. Their countless fleets and innumerable armies have been shattered and lost. The comforts of their civilization are a distant memory. Cut off from the Star Gate network and scattered in isolated pockets throughout the galaxy, humanity is trying to recover from the great Collapse.

The story of Starfarer concerns a sector mostly untouched by the calamity that spelled doom for the Domain. For over 200 cycles, humanity has been losing its grip on civilization, and struggling desperately to hang on to what is left.

It is a time of frequent conflict, rampant piracy, and unsteady allegiances; a time of great profit for the few traders able to ply the old trading routes; a time of great danger and greater opportunity.

What will you discover in the ongoing development of the world of Starfarer?
* Single player, gritty, dystopian sci-fi setting
* Classic top down gameplay style enhanced by modern technology
* A procedurally generated sector of the galaxy, seeded with well-known core worlds and factions
* Develop your character into a hot-shot pilot, a cagey admiral, an industrial magnate – or anything in between
* Outfit ships with your weapons of choice and add hull modifications to create crushing tactical combinations
* Explore hundreds of star systems to find habitable worlds, rich resource deposits, and lost technology
* Assemble a large, powerful fleet or a finely-tuned task force with hand-picked officers and crew
* Cripple core world supply lines to cause chaos and create easy prey for piracy or bolster the rule of law and try to reverse the sector’s descent into anarchy
* Impact the fate of the sector with your decisions and leave a permanent mark in the world

The Sims 3 Electronic Arts (EA Redwood Shores)2009Way worse than Sims 2, with only a city that is terrain-fixed, and with the control of only ONE family for the sake of neighborhood aging (good concept, but stupid for a shared computer or when you simply want to play many different families)

7 de 10***Although the base game concept is interesting as social simulation game, the game only includes one small town to play in and sell additional towns as microtransactions for about 25USD/20EUR (that's for single town), there's also other limitations which aren't as egregious as this. But I don't think I need to really go into detail on the game beyond this. It's a money milker for EA, but considering how successful the game has been, I rather question the players who actually fall for this rather than EA for doing it. I bought the game when it was discounted at "low" 15EUR price itself (from original 50EUR) and I can say that the game is hardly worth even that much. Maybe if it was like 10EUR with towns being 2EUR or so, I might consider it reasonable. There's also DLC expansions that cost the same as the base game itself.

Unfortunately popularity (or market hype?) of Sims series has made it pretty certain there won't be any serious competition, it also allows EA to continue producing inferior games for ridiculously high price.

As a game, it's decent I think, but in terms of value vs price, you're paying 100-1000 times more than you should be. Hence, don't buy any Sims games outside of significant (>60%) discounts.***The game seems to have a long standing non-critical bug where the game starts freezing every few minutes. According to some players this is likely related to pathing code where some NPC gets "stuck" and can't figure out how to get their stuff done as a result. There is no real fix for this besides starting a new game which obviously doesn't prevent an NPC from getting stuck again.***The freedom of The Sims 3 will inspire you with endless creative possibilities and amuse you with unexpected moments of surprise and mischief!
