Kamen no Ninja: Akakage  Toei (Shouei System)1988"Kamen no Ninja: Akakage" is a plaform-action game based on a Japanese tv and anime series. The hero has to make its way from left to right by jumping and running and killing (either by sword or ranged weapons) enemies, with a boss fight waiting for him at the end of the level. The game is not too bad compared with earlier games based on Toei anime series but there is also nothing really special. Graphics and music are OK. The levels are varied enough to a certain degree. But in the end I am sure I will have forgotten about this game in record time. NESlabelimageminimize
Kamen Rider Club: Gekitotsu Shocker Land  Bandai (Tose)1988"Kamen Rider Club" is the first videogame adapton of the Tokusatsu-style Japanese tv and metaseries "Kamen Rider". It is a strange mixture of platform game with RPG elements. Encounters with enemies often lead to a special combat mode where you have to face the enemy in a one-on-one battle, which consists of pressing a button as fast as possible. You can also use several tools to aid in fights. Winning gives XP and eventually you level up and become stronger. Most of the time however you will try to manage the platform levels themselves. The first three levels are tied to a certain Kamen Rider protagonist, in the further stages you can switch between your three main protagonists at will. Their ablities to run, jump and climb are slightly different from each other, so you must make good use of them in certain situations. The game is surprisingly long and takes a couple of hours to finish. Sounds all good, doesn't it? Well, now here is the problem. The controls, especially the jumping are bad, really bad. The worst is the fact that once you hit an wall or brick above you with your head (and that will happen often) you head comically flattens somehow and for some seconds you are not able to climb walls in that way. And wall-climbing is needed as much as jumping in this game. Due to the design and controls you feel like making progress very very slowly and always interrupted by those RPGish fight scenes. With better controls this could have been really good, but it turned out to be infuriatingly frustrating at times. NESlabelimageminimize
Knight Rider  Pack-In-Video;Acclaim Entertainment (Pack-In-Video)1988KITT is more than a car, it's an extension of you, Michael Knight! You'll race day and night through sizzling deserts, icy mountains, big city freeways and more! It's up to you and KITT to bring these thieves to justice! Go get 'em Michael Knight. Get every last one!***Although this game is based on a North American TV series, it was first published in Japan 1988-09 and then Korea shortly after. It did not reach the USA until 15 months later. Other North American TV series based games, such as the Sesame street series and Gilligan's Island, were not even published outside of North America. Airwolf, another North American TV series that enjoyed international success, was also published first in Japan.

The UPC code is said to be 0-21481-10302-8 by some sources. But 3-61622-01111-0 is used most often. As Acclaim prints its barcodes on the side of its packages, it is not often seen in online scans of their game boxes. Both codes may be valid, but I have not visually confirmed either of them. Also, I could not locate the Korean and European product barcodes; one of the above codes may be from a European version.

Sesame Street: 123  Hi-Tech Expressions (Rare)19892 games that teach very basic skills.

Astro-Grover teaches counting, addition and subtraction. The subtraction is cleverly taught as a variation of addition, which is often less intimidating to new students of math. This actually more accurate in mathematical terms anyway. As the story goes, Zips (from planet Zap), have come to Earth to help build cites. While Zips are advanced in many ways, their minds cannot easily comprehend mathematics (much like Albert Einstein). Always the helper, Grover arrives to do the math for them (under the player's directions). The game has a beginning, middle and end (arrival, building, and departure of the Zips) but does not need to be performed in order.

Ernie's Magic Shapes teaches shapes and colors. Ernie and a white rabbit pulled from a magician's hat use stage magic to levitate various shapes of various colors above the stage. Then Ernie levitates another shape above the magician's hat. If the player pushes in any direction, Ernie will change to different shape. The player pushes a button to signify that the shapes match and if they actually do, then the shape above the hat will levitate up beside the one above the stage. If the player is wrong, Ernie will state exactly how by saying, "This is the wrong shape" and/or "This is the wrong color." In the harder variations, the player must construct complex shapes from similar ones. In this game Ernie does what Ernie does best, he sets the player up for failure, constantly offers advice even when does not need to be stated, then points out all failures, and blames Bert. But as always, he does this in a cute and lovable way that everyone likes (except Bert).

In an unusual moment for the Sesame Street gang, they apparently failed to realize the "zips" is a derogatory term in some cultures. This is especially strange for Grover, as he hosts the show Global Grover which is about traveling the world to learn about different cultures. Rest assured, any resemblance of alien Zips to any real world peoples are purely accidental as the term is used here in the American English sense of the word meaning, "go fast" and because it goes well with the word "zap" which is typically associated with aliens.

Note: Bert & Ernie's address is 123 Sesame Street. Bert is not in this game.

Sesame Street: Countdown Hi-Tech Expressions (RSP)1992Join Count von Count as he selects the number of the day from a spinning wheel than finds occurrences of that number on Sesame Street. The game aims to to teach audio visual recognition of the numbers 1-10. Additionally, the player has the option of selecting a group of ten items that they have counted. There is even a bonus level where the player can exercise pre-math skills needed to understand addition and subtraction. Although addition, subtraction, and math are not actually presented directly. All game play is of the sidescrolling platform variety and the player can jump to select the numbers or groups. This can be done in jump mode or run mode. Jump mode restrains the Count to leaping to preset positions under the numbers. This is to reduce difficulty for unskilled gameplayers. The run mode is a full platform game where the player must aim manually when jumping for numbers.
Count von Count can not exercise his hypnotism skills but can call thunder & lighting whenever desired. He speaks directly to the player via speech synthesis to give instructions and offer hints. Upon successes, he does his trademark laugh.

Sukeban Deka III  Toei (Shouei System)1988"Sukeban Deka III" is based on the third Sukeban Deka highschool live-action TV show and manga. The gameplay is not related to Sega's Sukeban Deka II. It is an action game with rudimentary RPG elements in that you get xp for killing enemies and raising in levels gives you better attack and defense power as well as access to magical abilities. The areas of the game are either presented from a top-down view or side view. I didn't find the game enjoyable. Mostly due to the very repetitive levels, sub-average graphics and rather bad controls.
