BattleBall author? This is essentially soccer played with tanks. Up to 8 teams of ?unlimited? players can compete. AI players provided.

Technical notes:
This game runs well on 133 MHz or faster CPUs.
Running the game involves having some familiarity with x servers. Here is one possible way to run it:
vnc4server :2 -cc 3 -depth 8 -geometry 640x480 -localhost # start an x server
xvnc4viewer :2 # view your new x server
battleball hostcomputer:2 comp, comp # start a battle ball game with a human player on the x server on hostcomputer and two AI players.
This game is in the ubuntu universe repository. However, due to the x server wrangling required to play, it is not tagged ubuntu at this time. It installs with a complex command-line menu item automatically. But this fails to run.

[Zerothis]***You are Nick Vrenna. It is the year 2009. You have been
falsely incarcerated inside a high security underground
prison where illegal genetic experiments are taking place.

Alan Blake, the head research scientist, has isolated the
specific gene which causes violence and aggression in
humans. This genetic sequence, called 'Abuse', is highly
infectious, causing horrific transformations and grotesque
side-effects. You are the only person to show immunity to it

A prison riot erupts, and in the confusion all the cell
doors ar opened. Soon everyone, guards and convicts
alike, become infected and transform into a horde of
mutants which take over the building.

Your only chance for escape is to don battle armor and
reach the Control Room situated in the structure's deepest
level. You must first stop the prison's Abuse-infected
water supply from contaminating the outside world. Freedom
and the fate of the world now depend on you.

Kobo Deluxe  -1999DESCRIPTION
Kobo Deluxe is a 3’rd person scrolling 2D shooter with a simple and responsive control system - which you’ll need to tackle the tons of enemy ships that shoot at you, chase you, circle around you shooting, or even launch other ships at you, while you’re trying to destroy the labyrinth shaped bases. There are 50 action packed levels with smoothly increasing difficulty, and different combinations of enemies that require different tactics to be dealt with successfully.
Kobo Deluxe has an improved graphics engine that delivers smoother animation, while keeping the game logic totally accurate and predictable regardless of frame rate. It also adds sound effects, new graphics, fullscreen mode, four extra skill levels with smoother gameplay and various other features expected from a modern game. (There is still a "Clasic" mode that plays exactly like the original XKobo.)

Kobo Deluxe uses SDL for sound, graphics and input, and builds and runs
on all major operating systems, as well as some more unusual platforms.
It can also use OpenGL for accelerated rendering, through glSDL.
In short, Kobo Deluxe is loads of classical arcade style fun for just about any machine with graphics and sound!

CONTROLS
The ship can be controlled with the keyboard, or optionally a mouse or joystick. With the keyboard, the arrow keys move the ship (two keys for diagonals), and the shift and ctrl keys shoots. The numeric key pad can also be used; the usual 2/4/6/8 (arrows), and also 1/3/7/9 for single key diagonals. Escape enters the meny system, from where it is possible to change settings, start a new game or exit the game.

Krilo BlackHoleSun Software1999This is a proprietary game.
Requires Linux 2.x with glibc 6 and X11, Pentium 166, 24MB RAM, 640x480x16 video, OSS sound, 48MB Hard drive space
Krilo 1.3-3 was compiled using libpng-1.0.5 (very old) and apparently does not run with libpng1.2 or later. I was able to force installation this version of libpng from a converted redhat .rpm on ubuntu 10.04. This will overwrite /usr/share/man/man5/png.5.gz, hence the optional 3 step procedure.
sudo mv /usr/share/man/man5/png.5.gz /usr/share/man/man5/png.5.gz.bak ##optional backup procedure 1

sudo dpkg -i --force-all libpng_1.0.5-4_i386.deb ##required

sudo mv /usr/share/man/man5/png.5.gz /usr/share/man/man5/png.5-1.0.5.gz ##optional backup procedure 2
sudo mv /usr/share/man/man5/png.5.gz.bak /usr/share/man/man5/png.5.gz ##optional backup procedure 3
For obvious reasons, this game should not be tagged ubuntu
Krilo bounces up and down. Can't help himself. The player needs to guide him left and right to bounce of harmless objects and bust into the blocks that have his trapped buddies. Krilo must also pass through color gates by change color himself on a color switcher.

Xbreaky author2000A very simple Arkanoid type without 'english' (the ball simply stays at 45° angles). However, bricks have powerups of many kinds to enhance gameplay. No intuitive icons for the powerups (and downs), but they are distinquished by color for type, for instance, all powerdowns are red. A solid effort from a beginner developer.
[Zerothis]***A simple breakout clone with powerups (and powerdowns). Multiple levels, which are loaded in plain text files so custom levels can easily created.

XInvaders 3D  author2000XInvaders 3D is a 3D Vector Graphics Space Invaders clone for X11.***Space invaders done in 3rd person. The invaders still line up in the same formation as if the player's ship were below them as in the 2D version. But the player's ship is positioned between the audience and the invaders, facing the sheet of enemies. Once again, the march left to the edge then right to the edge, getting one step closer each time; but now they move forward instead of down. The UFOs are, however, still behind the enemies. Shoot them all. labelimagesubject
XRally author2000XRally is a Linux clone of the classic Rally X arcade game. For those who don't know, in Rally X you control a blue (good) car, that has to collect yellow flags around a maze-like map, while avoiding the red (bad) cars. In order to help himself, the blue car can use clouds of smoke through the maze. If a enemy touch any of these clouds, it stops for a while. The enemy cars can also crash one with the other, what gives you some extra time.

XRally is written in C using only the basic Xlib and Xpm libraries. It's a project aimed mainly at newbie X11/Game programmers like me (but any experienced help is appreciated! :) )
