Unreal | Tux Games (Epic Games) | 2002 | This is a proprietary game. This was a package of modified Unreal game data files offered by Tux Games for a limited time. Customers who had purchased the Linux version of Unreal Tournament (from Tux Games or even another vendor) could install this and play the original version of Unreal. While technically an add-on, this was also in fact a full game. [Zerothis]***Your ship has crash landed on an unknown planet. Look around. Crystal clear water shimmers. Shadows shift. Alien architecture fades into the horizon. Darkness falls. Walkways glow. Godless temples beckon. You are afraid. You are in the real world... but it is like no world you have ever known. | labelminimizesubject |

DRL | author | 2005 | "Doom" is not a word in the Webster's dictionary anymore. It is in fact owned by Zenimax who sued Webster's and the people behind DoomRL for using the word. Which is why it is "DRL" now. Zenimax took this action seemingly because one of the developers of DoomRL created an unrelated roguelike called "Jupiter Hell" and solicited investors on Kickstarter. And Webster's because they sell dictionaries.***Latest version: 0.9.9.1 (as of 2010-03-24) | labelimageminimize |

Teeworlds | author | 2007 | ***Its a side scrolling shoot'em'up platformer deathmatch, but cute. It also has similarities to cave-flyers. Local or Internet play. Anyone can run the standalone server and client at the same (at least on Linux). | labelimagesubject |
Goblin Hack | author | 2008 | Latest version: 1.18 (as of 2009-03-08)***Goblin Hack is a roguelike opengl-based smooth-scrolling ASCII graphics game! Inspired by the likes of NetHack, it opts for a simple interface that appears to appeal to kids (and adults) and fires the imagination in today's world of over-rendered games. | labelimagesubject |

Cytadela | Asymptopia Software | 2010 | Cytadela is a single player game in which the player fights against computer-controlled (AI) enemies. The goal of the game is to find six bomb parts with which the Citadel has to be blown up. To achieve it, the player not only has to defend himself against the enemies, but (s)he also has to solve many riddles, such as switching apropriate buttons in order to open some door, move some walls, etc. It's a conversion of a first person shooter Amiga game originally released in mid 1990's, first in Poland and then in other countries. Cytadela requires a 3D graphics card. It uses the OpenGL and GLU libraries for 3D, and SDL and SDL_mixer for 2D, music, sounds and controllers. | labelimagesubject |
Aquaria | Humble Indie Bundle (Bit Blot) | 2010 | It's out, see the gameplay video.****** [Zerothis]***[[youtube:iTRJVhrvwLg]] [Sanguine]***Originally Aquaria was not going to have Linux port, but Alec apparently flipped over and ported it in one night (only the sound engine really needed porting). The most difficult part of the porting is case sensitivity in the filesystem rather than any coding part, Mac and Windows ignore case when accessing files while Linux doesn't, making files that open quite well on Win/Mac result in file not found in Linux. They're working to convert all the files and their names in scripts/code to match, so the issues will probably go away after a bit. [s]The Linux release may be a bit iffy still.[/s] (The thread shown in the source link has most of the stuff related to Linux port. Just scan for posts by Alec.) Update: Released as part of the 2010 Humble Indie Bundle after which Aquaria was also open-sourced. [Sanguine] | labelimageminimize |

Blasphemer | author | 2012 | Heretic has several open source engine choices. But playing the game initially required purchasing the proprietary data (or downloading the proprietary shareware version). Blasphemer is a project to replace proprietary Heretic data with non-proprietary data. Thus allowing players to enjoy a complete Heretic-like game with no proprietary entanglements. Turn enemies into multiple gibs in this dark fantasy 1st-person shooter. Look up and down (sort of). Features inventory manipulation, environmental interaction, use magic, find powerups that improve all the weapons you are carrying, and the ability to fly. These are in addition to the features seen in its predecessor, Doom. | labelminimizesubject |
Crust | Nordic Mobile Labs | 2012 | Running the demo requires installing the following: libzzip-0-13 libsdl1.2debian (not vanilla libsdl1.2) libsdl-image1.2 libsdl-net1.2 libsdl-mixer1.2 libcurl3 As the nordicmobilelabs.fi website might not work reliably for various location in the world, it is suggested one use a download resumer. Or better yet just use wget from the command-line:
wget http://www.nordicmobilelabs.fi/demo/crust-demo-linux-x32.tar.bz2
OR
wget http://www.nordicmobilelabs.fi/demo/crust-demo-linux-x64.tar.bz2
It is a download resumer and its very fast. | labelimageminimize |

Half-Life 2: Episode One | Valve | 2013 | Half-Life 2: Lost Coast is a free add-on level first offered to Linux users on 2013-06-28. It's mainly for valve to show off technical aspects of their Source Engine. It mainly features high-dynamic-range rendering (better contrast), that helps keep details from being obscured by otherwise limited contrast range. Because it was originally intended to be included in Half-Life 2, it contains story details that are not otherwise available. | labelminimizeminimize |
