Trespasser  Electronic Arts (DreamWorks Interactive)1998aim deadzone - this is essentially a side effect of the control system where you control the arm instead of any single item held in it like in other games.
limited capacity - you only have space for one item (any item, regardless of type or size) in your "inventory" and whatever is held in your hand at the moment. Rather silly in the way that a keycard or floppy disk in your pocket removes the possibility of carrying a rifle or pistol in your belt or back.
self awareness - border case, your legs are never seen, only the chest (which contains the "health display") and possibly a weapon peeking from your belt.
physics - besides the very basic puzzles based on them, the game practically revolves around the physics and the unusual control system used to interact with it. The movement of the dinos looks like it attempts to (primitively) simulate real movement rather than using frames like usual, this usually gives very strange looking walking animation for them as well as making them stumble occasionally (which although funny, is very poor representation of the agility most of these creatures possessed). Other cases come with the items you hold in your hand, usually being knocked off by the slightest force, and sometimes inadvertently by the dinos when they attack you (although more often they just brush the weapon aside). This may appear intentional, but it's likely accidental from their part.
gameplayinn - Ragdoll physics, the first game to use them. Although this received a negative response, ragdoll physics have become an integral part of modern games.

StarCraft  Blizzard Entertainment1998In the distant future, the newly formed Terran Dominion faces the arrival of two hostile alien races: the savage Zerg and the enigmatic Protoss. Gather resources and expand your forces to lead them to victory. The only allies are enemies. The only choice is war.***For 1-8 players, with teams or in FFA. Cross-platform play with Mac.***Latest version: 1.16 (as of 2008-11-27)***An incredible RTS that requires both brains and speed. Not trackball- or trackpad-friendly. Though the graphics are rather primitive by today's standards, that's only because this game is relatively old.

It features three different playable races, each of which requires different strategies for maximum effectiveness. Play as the versatile Terran colonists, the voracious Zerg xenomorphs, or the enigmatic, psionically gifted Protoss (my personal favorite).

The game also includes a map editing program for the unique SCM and SCX map format, enabling a patient user to craft new maps and scenarios. Some of the features take some getting used to, but FAQs are available at [[link:http://www.blizzard.com/starcraft]].

The screenshot at right is from the first mission in the expansion, StarCraft: Brood War.
[StarSword]***EXCELLENT realtime strategy game.***This is a very good game and requires a lot of skill, but also quickness. The expansion (Starcraft: Brood War) brings a lot more into the game.

Delta Force NovaLogic19982009-06-18 on Steam***Delta Force was the first game to use voxel technology, which allowed outdoor 3D environments to be rendered far more effectively than with Textured Polygons, although not quite as sharply or attractively.

Delta Force's gameplay was top notch, emphasising strategy over killing. However, AI and the still developing voxel graphics (and a lack of falling damage) let it down. Its revolutionary graphics system did not replace textured polygons, and has not done so yet.

Thief: The Dark Project  Eidos (Looking Glass Studios)1998Working title: The Dark Project
Original project title: Dark Camelot***sentient artefact - The Eye
gameplayinn - first person stealth; possibly started the whole stealth game rage.***To call Thief a first-person shooter is to strip away what the game brought to the gaming scene. Set in a magical medieval city, the player is a thief, with the ability to become almost invisible in shadows. And here is where 'first-person sneaker' became it's own genre.

Emphasizing strategy and stealth over raw killing ability, the game brought a new idea to first-person shooters. Sure, the sword and bow are necessary, but the blackjack, and avoiding combat, are even more effective.

Well designed cut scenes, incredible graphics, unmatchable atmosphere, etc etc all meant that Thief was a superb game.

Metal Fatigue  Psygnosis;TalonSoft (Zono)2000dismemberment - as the mechas fight each other, they may dislodge each others limbs which fall to the ground, these can be retrieved and re-installed back to your own mechs (your enemy may do this as well). this is also one method of gaining your enemy's technology.
gameplayinn - first (and only?) strategy game with dismemberment, and especially one where the removed parts actually still hold a use. Multi-layered (one underground, one ground level, and 1-2 air layers), and the pilots of the destroyed vehicles try to flee back to your base, and their survival is possibly of greater importance than that of the vehicles they pilot/drive. you also need to construct various mecha pieces individually and assemble each mecha equally individually at the mech bay.***Latest version: retail***Comes on 2 CDs.***Minimum:

Max Payne Take 2 Interactive;Gathering of Developers (Remedy Entertainment)2001Un shooter con un especial énfasis en el uso del entorno y sobretodo en el empleo de "tiempo bala" y de esquivas de todo tipo.
Además tiene una historia muy interesante y con elementos, como las viñetas o las fases oníricas, que le vienen como anillo al dedo para crear esa atmósfera miserable de una tragedia noir.

8 de 10***Max Payne is a man with nothing to lose in the violent, cold urban night. A fugitive undercover cop framed for murder, and now hunted by cops and the mob. Max is a man with his back against the wall, fighting a battle he cannot hope to win. Prepare for a new breed of deep action game. Prepare for pain... Developed by Remedy Entertainment and produced by 3D Realms, Max Payne is a relentless story-driven game about a man on the edge, fighting for his justice while uncovering plot-twists and twisted thugs in the gritty bowels of New York during the century's worst blizzard. Max Payne is an original third-person 3D game based on the MAX-FX engine, and uses photo-digitized textures, resulting in one of the most realistic looking games ever seen.***Max Payne is a cool game. Nice story line, good playing, especially when we have many mod to play. 5 Stars for Max Payne.

[zbig13]***The first action game to approach Half-Life in terms of playability. Impressive originality, such as Bullet Time, made it a benchmark game for 2001, improving on Half-Life in many fields, yet still not fully attracting the support the former got.

9 de 10***undefined elements - portal creation and especially gameplay based on them (especially the kind in which you must relocate portals midflight).***Aperture Science is part of the Half-Life universe (I think it was mentioned in Episode Two), making this a sort of spin-off from the regular Gordon Freeman alien overlord fighting action. Black Mesa is also mentioned at least twice in Portal itself, as competing research contractor in some presentations and by passing in the ending song.***The game's extremely short (roughly 2 hours for me with initial performance problems, few crashes and several deaths included) but the ending is strangely "rewarding" with the "Still Alive" song sung by GLaDOS.***Portal is a new single player game from Valve. Set in the mysterious Aperture Science Laboratories, Portal has been called one of the most innovative new games on the horizon and will offer gamers hours of unique gameplay.

The game is designed to change the way players approach, manipulate, and surmise the possibilities in a given environment; similar to how Half-Life 2's Gravity Gun innovated new ways to leverage an object in any given situation.

Players must solve physical puzzles and challenges by opening portals to maneuvering objects, and themselves, through space.

Portal is coming in the Fall of 2007 as part of The Orange Box, which also includes Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode Two. The Orange Box will be available for the PC, as well as the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 console systems.

Sleep Is Death  HC Software2010Essentially a tool to replace old pen&paper style for role-playing though with focus on storytelling rather than a gameplay system. Has no actual story in itself and solely relies on the players (or rather the player and the game/dungeon master [narrator]) to provide one.

Limited in that it only allows only one actual player, and obviously no RPG system in place to easily allow certain things to be simulated, only the actual storytelling exists.

Mountain author2014At first I read the information on the web about this game and it sounded as if it a neglected niche market that was before tamagochi players and after pet rock owners. I figured a 16K UHD (8640p) 48 inch Electrophoretic Color Display (when these became affordable) framed and hung in my living room would be the best place for it.
However, after seeing David OReilly's presentation I realized the product has interaction, there are features to unlock, causes to effect. It is on the outside definition of a game. But it is still more of a game than [game=#162665]Narcissu[/game] (which is often accepted as such). And it's minimally subversive (kind of an artistic necessity). I couldn't tell you exactly what, but this guy has probably started something at least as noteworthy as [game=#19073]Kings Quest[/game], [game=#34]Centipede[/game], [game=#173178]Passage[/game], or [game=#107889]Seven Cities of Gold[/game]. However, I'm still looking forward to decorating my wall with this first of the new. "You only live once, buy Picassos whenever possible." Right? $1 is way more than possible for me.
