Fallout Interplay (Black Isle Studios)1997A great post-apocalyptic RPG, with good atmosphere and great feeling about scarceness of resources.
Sadly, is too short, but with an incredibly good story and even alternative endings.***
[53]***Set in the aftermath of a worldwide nuclear war, FALLOUT will challenge you to survive in an unknown and dangerous world. You will take the role of a Vault-dweller, a person who has grown up in a secluded, underground survival Vault. Circumstances arise that force you to go Outside to a strange world 80 years after the end of the modern civilization. A world of mutants, radiation, gangs and violence. Your immediate task is to find a replacement for the broken water purification controller chip. Without that chip, your fellow Vault dwellers are doomed to dehydration or are forced to leave the safety of the Vault for the Outside.***2009-08-19 on Steam, by Interplay (lang: eng, fre, spa, ger)***Latest version: 1.2 (as of ?)

Fallout 2  Interplay (Black Isle Studios)1998Improves everything in the first game, especially exploration.
The only thing to blame is a kind of fixed ending in comparition with the first game, and an antagonist not so interesting as The Master.

9 de 10***In this postnuclear role-playing game, you are the Chosen One, the direct descendant of the Vault Dweller. The village elders have selected you to wear the sacred Vault-suit of your grandsire and, in time, to ascend to the leadership of your people. First you must prove your devotion to your people. Your tribe needs help. If you are truly the Chosen One, then you alone are capable of claiming the heritage of the Vault Dweller to take back your birthright. Your tribe has survived over 10 years of drought, but now their reserves are at an end. You must find Vault 13 and claim the technology that your tribe needs to survive. If you fail in this quest, your tribe will surely die. You must travel the perilous Wastes on a holy quest to find Vault 13--the same Vault that cruelly cast your grandsire out into the Wastes 80 years ago. The Vault owes you. The Vault owes your tribe. Now it is time to collect.***2009-08-19 on Steam, by Interplay (lang: eng, fre, ger)***censored - at least UK and German releases had the children removed.***It's a CRPG set in a Post Apocalyptic world. [game=Virgin Interactive]Virgin Interactive[/game] restarted the project under ALTAR in 2001.***UFO: Aftermath is a 3D isometric, tactical strategy game with a rich and compelling sci fi story.

Combining a global strategy with small squad tactical combat, the challenge offered is to fight against an alien invasion. Featuring run time generated tactical missions with innovative simultaneous combat action; the genre is also enhanced with strong RPG elements, offering a quite unique mix of strategic ideas.

RPG - Your soldiers will improve as they gain more experience. Their skills are derived from these statistics, and each point that you put into any one of these attributes will have a noticeable effect on that soldier's skills. These attributes are: Strength, Agility, Dexterity, Willpower, Intelligence, and Perception

Strategy - You must manage your bases, interceptions, and squads. Territory is equal to power in the game - the more you control, the better your interceptor coverage. Also, the faster you research, the better things could be.

Tactics - Fighting on the ground against aliens and mutants for the control of territories. Once you control a territory, you can decide what type of base you want there: Research, Military, Manufacture or Biomass repulsion.

Combat - Unique combat system features all of the best elements of both turn-based and real-time combat systems. You give orders while the game is paused to avoid the frantic rush of a real time system. While in pause you can give your troops very detailed orders taking as much time as you like. Once you are finished you simply start the game and continue playing. Once the game is underway you can pause the game at any point to update or change your orders and the game will automatically pause when important events occur, so that you may modify your plans accordingly. This combat is combining the finely grained tactics of a turn-based game with the realism of a real time system.

Key features:

* Simultaneous combat (mentioned above)
* Randomly generated tactical missions - each playing field will be unique meaning no two games are the same
* Intricate, rich and frightening alien setting displayed in full 3D
* Over 100 varied mission objectives
* 70 plus unique weapons
[Cenega]***Combines global strategy with small squad tactical combat in the fight against an alien invasion. It features run-time generated tactical missions, completely in 3D, with innovative simultaneous action combat, strong RPG elements and strategy game on the planetary level.

Jagged Alliance 2: Wildfire TalonSoft;Strategy First;TopWare Interactive (i-Deal Games)2004Even if the regime is totally inept and corrupt, don't suppose for a moment that you as the liberator will be greeted with open arms.

JAGGED ALLIANCE 2: WILDFIRE brings you back to Arulco. The population is being terrorized by a reckless army; in the meantime the main export goods are drugs. Subversion and fraudulence has infiltrated all levels of local government and the ever-present Mafia has his fingers in many pies. You are working undercover on behalf of the US government and your goal is to destroy the mighty drug cartel. You'll need a skilled hand to put together the right team of mercenaries and the negotiating skills of a diplomat to get the sceptical population on to your side. You'll also need the strategic genius of a general and the fighting tactics of a guerrilla.

Should you fail, your "client" will deny all knowledge of your existence.

UFO: Afterlight takes us to Mars, where a human colony has been built with the help of the Reticulans not long before the events of [game=#155167]UFO: Aftershock[/game] took place. Mars base is self-sustainable and provides all the necessities for survival of humans on a foreign planet, mainly breathable air, water and food. Although the people inhabiting this colony have the technologies and knowledge required for their further development, basic survival is their major concern. Their only activity is the research of a nearby excavation site, which proves the existence of an ancient intelligent and highly developed alien civilization.

The player will enter the game when the research drastically affects all Mars inhabitants. New and unexpected enemies appear in the form of robots, built centuries ago by the unknown aliens for their protection, whose purpose is to eliminate any traces of other civilizations on Mars.

Humans on Mars now have a good reason for their own development, even though not knowing yet that the planetary self-defense mechanism might not be the worst awaiting them, and that their unintentional opening of hyperspace gates will bring an even bigger enemy right to their door. After all attempts to contact the Earth Laputa fail, the colonists are left with no other choice than to fight the enemies with their own means, or be annihilated.

10 de 10***Bears some superficial resemblance to metroidvanias, but isn't one of them.***A 2D sidescroller without a linear path. An action game with tactical combat and strategic planning. An adventure game that lets you free-roam a vast, procedurally-generated world. A Valley Without Wind defies genre stereotypes. Unlike other procedurally-generated games, you also get a logical progression in difficulty, plus helpful tips and checklists to guide your travels (should you need them).

Choose for yourself how to prepare to face the vastly stronger Overlord. Complete a variety of missions to earn arcane rewards, or roam the wilds to uncover secret missions and stashes of magical loot. Customize your characters with unique combinations of enchants and spells that change how you move, jump, and fight. Or rescue people and bring them back to your settlement, recruiting them to help you in return.

You choose how to play, and the world adapts around you.

Key features:
* Travel alone or with friends across an ever-expanding world of dangerous creatures, powerful magic, high technology, and mysteries.
* You have choice. The world of Environ is procedurally generated, and lets you go anywhere you see -- including right into the overlord's keep at any time. (Good luck with that.)
* Environ is endless. When you save one continent from an overlord, a larger and more complex continent appears.
* The game adapts to how you play: as you demonstrate your proficiency, monsters upgrade accordingly. Killed 100 bats? Okay, time for... bats on fire!
* Crazy amounts of character customization. Combine a multitude of spells, enchants, and equipment to create specialized character builds.
* Play as a long line of brave adventurers. It's not a question of IF your character is going to die, but WHEN. Any character that dies is permanently lost, but you keep all your inventory, enchants, and general progress in the game.
* Become a community leader. Rescue NPCs, have them join your settlement, and construct buildings for them -- they may return the favor and help you.
* Be a clever problem-solver. Challenges have more than one solution, each with its own pros and cons. You get to figure things out rather than just jumping through a set of hoops.
* Difficulty levels give exactly the challenge you want, from casual to hardcore on both platforming and combat independently.
* New updates are arriving all the time packed with additional content, improvements, and more.

5 de 10***Krater brings you far into the future of a post-apocalyptic Sweden. Once home to IKEA, Vikings and Minecraft, today its primitive inhabitants scavenge the lush overgrown world for technological artifacts.

At the rim of a deep impact site known as the Krater, three factions vie for control over the great scar opening up into the world below. An endless series of caves and tunnels filled with ancient treasures and dangers, the Underside stretches into the depths of the fallen Swedish civilization.

You arrive to Krater to recruit a team of freediggers and take part in the goldrush where people return rich or don't return at all.

Key features:
Co-op and single player that blend seamlessly with each other - you use and develop same characters in both single- and multi-player missions. This means that you can explore the open game world freely in the single player campaign and whenever you feel like you can use the same characters and join up with a friend in a number of co-op dungeons and quests. All the loot and progress you earn is kept regardless of game mode. And yes, your grinding efforts will be kept for the coming PvP expansion as well!

* Unlimited Adventure - no matter how deep you crawl, there is always more to explore in an open game world where randomized dungeons and events are combined with a more than 60 thoroughly designed locations and more than 200 quests in order to create a vast gaming experience. Location range from small settlements with a few struggling inhabitants to major cities such as the Solside Capital, a sprawling regional HUB where you will find all sorts of characters and services.
* Face the consequences - your characters must cope with the dangers of Krater - if not they will face the threat of permanent injuries or even death.
* Craft Everything! - from items, weapons, and gear to your own characters' abilities and powers, you can craft it all with Krater’s extensive crafting system.
* Uniquely Persistent Characters - evolve your team of odd personalities as they take on new characteristics from abilities.
* Expandable Adventure - future DLC adventure modules promise to expand the world of Krater by offering exciting new campaigns.

Notably there's missing multiple bases for the player to operate, aliens do not set up bases (there's only one alien base in the game), alien craft activity is barely existing (~13 alien craft encountered before the game was over), terror missions and similar do not involve actual enemy craft going to the sites, your soldiers can't pick up enemy gear during missions, grenades and rockets are special one-use gear instead of actual inventory items, inventory overall is severely simplified to a point where its limitations don't make sense, the game does not simulate projectile trajectories except for missed shots destroying scenery (missed shots can no longer hit secondary targets) and auto/burst fire is treated as single shot in terms of hitting or not, as such cover is simply statistical wonder instead of literal cover (shots "penetrate" the cover - with no damage to the cover - when they hit the soldier hiding behind it rather than hitting exposed bits), alien craft interception relies on one-use power ups you need to craft (though they go largely unused), aliens do not attack XCOM base(s), you can only have one skyranger hence you're specifically forbidden to complete missions that appear "simultaneously" with others (you have to choose one, the others automatically fail, their timing and duration essentially synced), interceptor and skyranger management is simplified, chrysalids and robotic aliens can not be captured and studied, aliens do not have jobs (there's only one live specimen of each species to interrogate and beyond that, nothing), battle scanner is missing, arbitrary range limitations to weapons (not allowed to shoot if target is beyond certain range), incendiary weapons are missing, stun grenades are missing, quite a few alien species are missing, levels tend to be far smaller and streamlined (with very few exceptions), action points have been replaced with simplified version that has glaring limitations, soldiers have 360 degree vision, reloading and shooting in same turn is impossible, ammunition is handwaved away completely, aliens do not have morale, taking aliens alive has little far less use, and probably quite a few other things. New features, for those that care: upgrade system accessible via the foundry, psychic damage ability, classes, class perks, two-point system, and probably some others.

Personally I think this new XCOM is good game, but just does not hold up to what the old X-COM games were about. If you want the old experience, you're better off with the old games, UFO: Extraterrestrials, UFO: Aftermath/-shock/-light, or the many fan-made remakes.

Note that I played the game through on "classic" difficulty (the one just below brutal), which may have had something to do with some of my poor opinions.***EAN-13:
5 026555 056151
(European/Worldwide)***
