8 de 10***Gratuitous Tank Battles (GTB) is a unique hybrid of tower-defense, strategy, simulation and RTS. Set in an alternate history timeline where World War I never ends, you are the commander of allied forces fighting right up to the year 2114, where Mechs and lasers are used alongside tanks and rifles. The war continues across Europe, with the allied commanders still locked into the optimistic patriotism of the 1900s.

A tower-defense game where you can play as the attacker has been done before, but GTB lets you play the same maps as attacker OR defender, and even lets you save out your attack as a recording to defend against. An online-challenge system lets you upload your custom maps and custom units and attacks for other players to fight against. Speaking of custom units, GTB doesn't have simple pre-built units, but allows you to build them from individual components, and even design the appearance and colors of every single unit. An unlocks system gradually reveals more modules, abilities and unit 'hulls' to experiment with.

GTB also features an integrated map editor that lets you trivially change and tweak existing maps, or create entirely new ones, and the process of sharing these custom maps with friends is built right into the game. It was instead handled by Brian Reynolds and Firaxis Studios.
It is a continuation from Meier's meisterwerk Civilization II, picking up from where that game left off with a colony ship from earth being sent to Alpha Centauri. So it is, ostensibly, 'Civ... but in space!'.
This is a sweeping statement, but AC borrows very heavily from Civ II, hardly touching the game mechanics (why mess with perfection? some would say). Little has been added save a custom unit workshop (as seen in many strategy titles) and automated governance for colonies.
However the new factions are very well balanced and the future technologies believable and genuinely interesting. This game may not do much new, but it copies an old master with style and panache, while cleaning up a few of it's predecessor's rough edges.

Battlecruiser Talestra – the flagship of Aliiance Forces – was sent in a remote star system to guard some science groups exploring a long ago abandoned city of ancient race. But owing to a break down in its hyperengine Talestra comes in the wrong part of galaxy. And now the crew has to make a long way to their home: through the worlds populated with alien races, through deserted, desolate systems and sectors controlled by the main enemy of the galaxy - De'Khete.

The main character is a pilot of elite fighters squad, which is a part of Talestra's combatant forces. Together with other crew members player will have to overcome all the severities fallen to the lost cruiser's lot. All the pilots of player's squad are controlled by AI: they follow the player's ship and help in battles. Moreover companions report about their maneuvers and give advice on combat tactics. While at the Ark you are able to recruit others in order to aid you in your endeavors, upgrade and change the layout of your ship, and research and improve new technologies in order to aid you on future missions. When away from the Ark, your decisions can result in the life or death of your crew members. Since this is mankind's first real exploration of space, everything must be discovered in order to attempt to work with or against aliens.

* [b]Procedurally Generated Star System and Sectors[/b] - Each play through will have a very large created sector map with randomized events to make each game different.
* [b]Explore[/b] - Participate in various dynamic ship and location events and make the decisions that you feel are best for your crew.
* [b]Continuous Research[/b] - As with all technology once something is discovered it is not simply left alone, it is continuously improved. In [b]The Sentient[/b] you can do this as well. All technology can be continuously improved like your weapon systems, hull and various abilities in order to truly conquer the stars.
* [b]Unique Alien Races[/b] - Each alien race has their own tactics and ships. Learn what truly makes them tick in order to determine the best choices for the job.
* [b]Risk Versus Reward Exploration[/b] - The further out you go in space in a continuous run the more research you will be able to obtain. If your ship is lost all research from that sector will be lost as well.
* [b]Play The Way You Want[/b] - If you never want to learn alien communications, and only focus on weapon systems the choice is truly yours.
