Player character is protected from any single thing instantly killing them regardless of how much damage they do. With some reasonable exceptions like falling into a death pit.

This is generally achieved that past certain health threshold, if the player's health would drop by a single thing or within certain small timeframe below zero, they're instead reduced to only 1 hit point, giving them tiny amount of extra time to react to the danger they're in.

For games where you have more than one (1) hit point and nothing causes more than one (1) damage, you might consider something else than this.

Distinct variant of hit moderation.
