A fantasy sub-genre that deals with more personal battles, such as fame or saving your loved ones, instead of the world endangering adversaries of high fantasy.

Popularized by things like Conan the Barbarian in times when it deviated from its low fantasy theme, as well as other similar swashbuckling tales.

Sword and sorcery rarely has a heroic protagonist, but rather someone more realistic, even if the situation isn't.

May include heroic themes like damsel in distress and such, but the reasons for trying to save them are less heroic. Either the damsel is your love interest (as in, you've been courting/dating her) or she's wealthy or powerful and you expect to be well compensated for your efforts.
