Ternary numerals can be compactly represented by nonary and septemvigesimal systems the same way binary can be compactly represented by octal and hexadecimal systems.

A Ternary Numeral System uses positive numbers (0, 1, 2). If negative numbers are used (-1, 0, 1), then it is called a Balanced Ternary Numeral System.

Six Trits make a Tryte as 8 bits make a byte. A tryte can hold as much information as approximately 9.5 bits while using the same ternary based computer bandwith as binary based computer. A ternary computer can perform 27 operations in the time it takes a binary computer to perform 4. And, it consumes less power.

Balanced ternary logic works especially more efficiently than binary logic when using fiber optic connections.

Fuzzy logic operations are extremely inefficient in binary based computers but Fuzzy logic can be represented as trilean logic equally efficiently as boolean logic in a ternary based computer.
