Alternate names: 象棋, Chinese chess, Elephant game

Xiàngqí (象棋) translates to "elephant board game", the latter word is hard to translate to English properly as it is specifically a group of board games (including Japanese shogi), though chess seems to be accepted approximation.

Chinese chess may also be a mislabeling of Chinese checkers
