Rare was set up as a new division of ACG to work on games for newer platforms than the previous Ultimate was known for.
Bought by Microsoft in 2002. Before this the Stamper brothers had majority share on the company with Nintendo having minority, after this Microsoft wholly owned the company.
In 2007, the founders leave the company.
It is known for Banjo-Kazooie, Battletoads, Donkey Kong, Double Dragon, Jetman, Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark, Star Fox, Viva Piñata, Wizards & Warriors
