0x10c  MojangTBA0x10c is hex notation for 268.***The proper title shows the "c" is shown in superscript, meaning 0x10 to the power of c (in hexadecimal). Officially pronounced ten to the see. A notable feature of this game is that all the spacecraft will have a fully emulated computer system with an accurately emulated late 80s CPU. In addition to this contributing to gameplay features, players will be able to pass the time (space travel will take a some time) by playing emulated 80s games.***In a parallel universe where the space race never ended, space travel was gaining popularity amongst corporations and rich individuals.
In 1988, a brand new deep sleep cell was released, compatible with all popular 16 bit computers. Unfortunately, it used big endian, whereas the DCPU-16 specifications called for little endian. This led to a severe bug in the included drivers, causing a requested sleep of 0×0000 0000 0000 0001 years to last for 0×0001 0000 0000 0000 years.
It’s now the year 281 474 976 712 644 AD, and the first lost people are starting to wake up to a universe on the brink of extinction, with all remote galaxies forever lost to red shift, star formation long since ended, and massive black holes dominating the galaxy.

Assault on the Clone Master  author1985[The following text is copyrighted by Eamon Adventurer's Guild Online and presented here word-for-word thanks to their generous terms]
#9 - Assault on the Clone Master by Donald Brown

Reviewed by Tom Zuchowski

MAIN PGM Version: 4 Extra Commands: DESTROY Deleted Commands: None Special Features: Wandering guards Playing Time: 20 min. Reviewer Rating: 4.0 Average Rating: 3.8/4

Description: "You were walking away from the Main Hall when you felt that unpleasant wrench in your stomach again. You are in another universe. This time, you have your normal body and weapons. You just need to find your way back.

"You came upon a group of people who know of your plight. They are rebels, and can return you to your world. They will show you the way, if you will only first go with some of their men on a raid in the fortress of the dreaded Clone Master.

When they inform you that they will kill you if you don't go along, you agree. You must do two things--kill the Clone Master and destroy the device that keeps him in power--the Clonatorium!"

Comment: This is typical Don Brown fare: simple map, no puzzles, combat geared for Marcos' weapons, and a light, humorous air. The map itself couldn't be simpler; it is one long straight corridor with three sets of short side passages to either side. There is one secret passage.

The gimmick that shines in this Eamon is the "wandering monsters." Typically, Eamon authors jump monsters to random rooms, and if one happens to hit your location, you see him "enter" the room. But Don figured out how to actually move the monsters about from one room to the next. From the player's point of view, this looks no different from the "random jump" method, but it is elegantly done and deserves a look from any Eamon author who wants to do something similar.

Don did something with the monsters that may look cheap and lazy, but is actually a pretty good joke. There are only four basic characters here: guard, miner, harem girl, and servant. If memory serves, there are 5 miners, 3 harem girls, 7 servants, and 20 guards, and they all have names like GUARD18. If you remember that they are all clones of one another, then GUARD18 is a perfectly reasonable name!

I enjoyed the play. Two things knocked the rating down: low content, and a full screen of companions shooting the room descriptions off the top of the screen before I could read them.

This is basically a Hack'n'slash combat scenario with no mental effort required. Difficulty will run from perhaps (2) for a modern pumped-up character, to (6) for a character using Main Hall weapons. This Eamon is suitable for the young Eamonaut.

Breath of Fire II  Capcom1994Incorporating the same adventuring viewpoint and battle interface that made the original Breath of Fire so popular, Breath of Fire II became an instant favorite among RPG fans when it was released for the Super NES back in 1995. Breath of Fire II features four new fighting formations, which allows for greater control and strategy in battle. Adding even more depth to the series, players can combine their party members with Shamans to create enhanced characters.***Featuring a wide range of characters and personalities and a vast, endless world to explore, Breath of Fire II is the sequel to the original smash-hit role-playing game. In a world set 500 years after the previous installment, in a frontier village known as Gate, the father and sister of a young boy known as Ryu are suddenly abducted. Strangely, all the villagers appear to have completely forgotten everything about the incident, and Ryu has instantly become an orphan. At a church, Ryu meets Bow, another orphan in a similar predicament, and they slip away from town together to begin their adventure. Take advantage of the multiple game-play viewpoints found in the game (such as the quarter-view perspective during battles that made the original game so popular) to use exciting abilities like shaman fusing and dragon transformations and help these two heroes complete their mission.***This is a traditional RPG, and doesn't really do anything drastically different from other games in the genre with the battles. Enemy encounters occur at random while you are walking on the overworld, or when you're going through an area such as a tower or a cave. By looking at your menu, you are able to get a rough idea about how many random battles there are likely to be in the particular area you are in. Though they occur more at some areas than others, there will be many enemies to fight. This can become frustrating, particularly when you are in a confusing area or maze.***Another classic RPG that was butchered by Nintendo during translation. An unofficial translation with improved graphics and cosmetic modifications is being worked on here (they also have a completed German translation):

Cleopatra no Mahou  Square1987"Cleopatra no Mahou" is a mix of classic dungeon-crawler first-person RPG with an adventure-style interface and item combination puzzles. Both parts are rather rudimentary implemented with only three smallish dungeons/places. Fight monsters to get xp, buy new equipment and get an item here and there to solve a puzzle. You walk with choosing a verb and then choose a direction instead of just walking around with the D-Pad. That makes movement rather slow and you will get interrupted fairly often by random monster encounters. Neither RPG purists nor adventure fans will really love this game, because except for being a genre-mix and the uncommon egyptian scenario there is nothing that this game does particularly well. Deep Dungeon III: Yuushi Heno Tabi  Square (Hummingbird Soft)1988"Deep Dungeon III", similar to its both predecessors, is a difficult old-school dungeon crawler RPG. More dungeons, more towns and instead of a single character you control a party of four characters. Standard dungeon crawler elements everywhere. A bit more story or surprising elements would have been good. In every regard an average game for fans of that particular RPG sub-genre only.***Deep Dungeon III: Yūshi he no Tabi is the third installment in the Deep Dungeon series and the first to be released on the Famicom. This is the first Deep Dungeon title to offer the player a world to explore spanning multiple dungeons and multiple towns. It also allows the player to create their own party with up to three companions in addition to the hero character, with a choice of ranger, magician or priest for each character. Though the player can dismiss a character once the game has started, they will only be able to replace that character if they meet another pre-created playable character in one of the dungeons. However, the game will still end as soon as the protagonist "swordsman" character is defeated. This game retains the player-adjustable level-up stats from the first game, as well as the feature that removes randomized encounters if the player is at a significantly higher experience level than needed for their current location. One exclusive and rather annoying feature of this game engine is that sometimes the player character will fumble (remove) their equipped weapon, wasting that character's turn. If the player wishes to re-arm their weapon, it will cost the player another turn. This is the only game in the series to award the player money (Gold) when defeating enemies. All other games will force the player to re-enter maps to collect respawning chests for money or items (for resale) if they want to gold farm.

Deep Dungeon: Madou Senki  Square (Hummingbird Soft)1986"Deep Dungeon" is very much like [game=#42559]Wizardry[/game] with the exception that you are not controlling a whole party but a single hero through eight maze-like dungeon levels to get rid of the evil overlord who is responsible for kidnapping the princesses soul. The rest is standard RPG gameplay. Most of the time you are wandering around killing monsters. There are not many puzzle-like elements in this game. With gold you can buy some weapon and armor upgrades and thats nearly all there is to say. The graphics are undetailed and only consist of one different set of walls, which at least change color in each level. And every level has its own music, so at least you always know on which dungeon level you currently are. Famicom Disk Systemlabelimageminimize
Defenders of Oasis  Sega (SEGA)1992The save feature of this game is a bit unusual. Saving is done automaticly at all times outside of combat (somewhat like oldschool roguelikes). But there is some control granted in the ability to make as many as two backup copies of the save file, overwrite backups, and delete backups. This save system is obvioisly intended to midigate the potential problem of batteries dying during gameplay. It is intended for use by a single player. However, if players are careful to keep track of backups, the game can effectively have two player profiles.***Score shown on Mega Force #27 (Apr. 1994)

Dragon Warrior is called Dragon Quest in Japan. The Japanese version (1986) used passwords but the US (1990) and Canadian versions used battery backed save RAM
A pen and paper RPG called Dragon Quest had already been published in the United States. For copyright reasons, the name Dragon Warrior was used. However, it turns out there was also Dragon Warriors RPG in existence at the time.

The English version was translated and published by Nintendo and strictly uses Early Modern English in conversational dialogs. Often mistakenly called King James English or Shakespearian English, but those styles were in fact derived from the Early Modern style (King James style also borrows extensively from Middle English). Early Modern English is in fact a bit more understandable than King James or Shakespearian English, for those who understand the contemporary Modern English of the late 20th century. The Japanese names for the characters and locations were changed into English names that better fit with the Early Modern English and a northern Europeanish location. The changes are influenced by the Arthurian Legends. The Nintendo version also made significant improvement in graphics and game mechanics. The number of menus was reduced. The protagonist could face multiple directions (instead of south only). Direction of talking and actions was automatically based on the direction the protagonist was facing rather than needing to be manually specified. Shorelines looked a bit like breaking waves instead of abrupt hard edges into sea water.

* Change classes of your characters mid-game.
* Main story contains dozens of intricate subplots.
* Travel day and night.
* Gamble on monster battles at the Fight Rings.
* Select from an expanded arsenal of weapons, armor and spells.
* Visit over 40 castles, towns, villages and shrines.***The third game in the "Dragon Quest" series is a big improvement compared to its two predecessors. Your party now consists of four heroes, whose classes you are free to choose. The game is bigger, has a better storyline with a legendary story twist towards the end of the game and has some memorable places and scenes like the phantom ship. The job changing system is also very innovative and gives extra motivation to build your "ultimate" party. As this is an console RPG of the 80's the leveling-up process still consists mainly of fighting random monster encounters. The time you spend leveling is not as long as in its predecessors but its still there and can become a bit tedious. The graphics stay basically the same as before. Here and there a few animations more, but nothing spectacular. The same can be said about the music.***A popular urban myth says that there is a law in Japan that forbids the release of DragonQuest game on a schooldays. While this is sometime attributed to that fact that DragonQuest III caused a huge disruption when release on a schoolday, the fact is that Enix voluntarily decided to not release subsequent DragonQuest games on schooldays before the law went into effect.

The game has 14 full length songs available in the album, Dragon Quest III ~And Into the Legend...~ Remix Symphonic Suite by Sony Records in 1996. Not eligible for a Grammy due to the snubbing of Videogames as an art form.

Chronologically the third game published, and marked "III", but the storyline precedes the first DragonQuest game. It also is set in a different world than its timeline sequels. This world's geography largely parallels Earth and cities vaguely represent different cultures of earth. However it is clearly not earth and while it adheres to an early medieval technology level, it references Earth cultures that span many thousands of years apart from each other.
[Zerothis]***Dragon Warrior is called Dragon Quest in Japan. This game is a must-have. A great classical hero-who-saves-the-world story. There is a great remake of this game for the SNES, but it's only available to Japanese readers, at least until someone translates it.

Taloon, the Merchant. Nara & Mara, the Dancer and the Fortune Teller. A Hero. Fulfill a prophesy. Is this your destiny? Experience this epic, multi-quest RPG!***This game approaches 16-bit quality. There are some neat technical tricks in this game, including dozens of characters on-screen without flickering. The story is divided into a Chapter structure. Early chapters introduces a main character (chp 4's main characters are a pair of sisters), has a unique quest for each spanning many years, and hints at the main story and future connections of these characters to come. Later chapters have main characters meeting to fulfill the main quest of the game. DQ3 was very open with character creation, sequential multi-classing, item vault and bank and other features. DQ4 returns to pre-made characters with set classes with a vengeance. But there are some added features to take full advantage of this. One is the wagon. Once the wagon is acquired, many characters, all main characters in fact, can join the party. The player selects and active subset while the rest wait in reserve. No more visiting a town somewhere to swap for a party best suited for the given task (like DQ3).

Dragon Warrior 64 UniKorn ProDucKions2020Kill monsters in 1-on-1 turn based combat to gain gold and experience. Explore the overworld. Enter dungeons to find treasure. Buy better weapons and armor. Rescue the Princess. Recover Erdrick's ball of light. Defeat The Dragon-lord.

A faithful reproduction of the original NES Dragon Warrior with only minor (non-gameplay) alterations save one. For minor example, in the beginning of both versions, the hero does not begin with weapon nor armor. Regardless, the hero is depicted holding a weapon and wearing armor in the NES version. This clone begins with the hero unarmed in a loin cloth and depicts him in a loin cloth without a weapon in hand. Equipping a weapon will then depict the hero with one and likewise armor. Random events are calculated differently. Again, the menu interface, all items, spells, quests, monsters, and such are the same. The only difference is the newly available Erdrick's Shield.

At the time of this article's publishing the game was at version 1.3 and there were several minor bugs. Only one of which required reverting to a previous save game.
