Ballblazer Atari (Lucasfilm Games)1986CX-5255. Rarity 3 Scarce. North America NTSC. This is a type of 3D Soccer or Pong sport for 1 player or 2 players. Play against another human or an AI opponent. Knock the ball into your goal by ramming it with your vehicle. This games has a feature of that that has never been duplicated; the music is created on-the-fly by an AI algorithm and as such is always a different tune.

Barroom Baseball Atari1983CX-52xx (no product number). 1 player or 2 players. An update version of [game=#20277]RealSports Baseball[/game] created for Atari's Arcade version of the 5200 and intended for release in the US and South America. The prototype cartridge contains a finished game. It may have been publicly tested but never produced in mass quantities. Although code to handle the 3 minute per quarter timer in the 5200 coin-op is complete, it doesn't work on a home 5200 and can be played without credits.

Basketball  Atari1982CX-5219. 2 Prototypes exist. The last of which is dated 1982-11-05. There is a later [game=#20278]Realsports Basketball prototype[/game] with a different basketball game. This entry is about the earlier attempt that looks different from the [game=#99705]the Atari 2600 version[/game]. It also has a bug that causes it to freeze at the end of the 1st quarter.

This is an actual a 4 players game. 2 players can not use a 2-port machine because of a bug that causes 2 player modes to use ports 2 and 3 (instead of 1 & 2). The game options are 1 player vs computer (using port 1). player vs player (ports 2 & 3), 2 players vs 2 computers (ports 2 & 3), 2 players vs a player & a computer (ports 1, 2 & 3), and 4 player free-for-all (ports 1–4). The 2 players against the computer and 3 players modes are a bit of an oddity for a game of this era.

Alan Miller originally began programming a 5200 version of the 2600 game. After he left Atari, the 2 year old task was assigned to Patrick Bass. After some initial work Bass began doing his own version.[spoiler= ; ][/spoiler]

Battlezone  Atari1983CX-5239. 1 player only. This mostly complete prototype is labeled 9/15/83 but was scheduled for a November release. Maneuver around a battlefield with obstacles and shoot other tanks before they shoot you. Contains a dual controller option to mimic the controls of the [game=#19]arcade version[/game].

All indications are that this project was started from scratch and no data or code from the Arcade version was used.

Beamrider  Activision (Action Graphics)1983FZ-009. Rarity 5 Rare. North American NTSC. 1 player, 2 players, 3 players or 4 players alternating. A four port machine is not required as players 3 and 4 used controllers 1 and 2 for their turns. Controllers in ports 3 or 4 are ineffective.

Destroy 15 UFOs by jumping from beam to beam using lasers or your limited number of torpedoes. New enemies are added as you advance through 99 levels. Don't shoot powerups or they will become hostile.

[b]Trivia[/b]:
The signature in the manual is not Dave Rolfe's real signature. He was worried about the possibility of his signature being forged and so didn't want it publicly viewable.

The credit for "adaptation" of this game is given to Action Graphics. It is not clear if "adaptation" means that data or code was from another version was used in the 5200 version. The Action Graphics team posed for a photo in the game's manual.

Players who reached sector 14 with 40,000 points or more, were eligible to receive a Beamriders patch from Activision. A proof of purchase, $1, and a photograph of the screen to prove the claim needed to be sent to Activision to get the badge.

Later editions of this game used the box of the Atari 2600 version of Beamrider with a "5200" sticker over the "2600".

Final Legacy  Atari1984CX-5256. North America NTSC. 1 player only. Was originally titled "The Legacy". A ready for release prototype cartridge from 1984 of this game was found in 1998. Much like [game=#45152]the Atari 8-bit version[/game], this game is a mix of strategy and action, all in real-time. Differences are English text throughout the game instead of the icons used in the computer version. Also, the computer version had a left/right handed option. The player moves his ships around the world refueling at friendly cities. At any time the player may be called upon to battle the enemy with water torpedoes, sea to land artillery or sea to air missiles. Each type of battle is an action game and battles continue no matter which mode the player is currently in.

Joust  HAL Laboratory;Hal America (HAL Laboratory)1987"Joust" is another game in a line of old arcade game conversion released by Hal Laboratory in 1987/88. The gameplay itself is the strong point of Joust, but in the end there is only so much variation and you feel that you have seen everything there is after a few minutes. Graphics and sound are simplistic, but true to the arcade original. Interestingly the US version got a little graphical facelift with more detailed platforms and sprites and title screen, but still not enough to make the game good looking. It is the kind of game which I think was not worthwhile for a full prize release in the late 80s. They should have published this and their other old arcade game ports (like [url=http://www.uvlist.net/game-7709-Defender+II]Defender II[/url] and [url=http://www.uvlist.net/game-8027-Millipede]Millipede[/url]) together on the same cartridge I think.***There is a USA version, NES-JU-USA, in a box that uses an EAN code: 4 940458 200019

One of 4 prototypes presented by Nintendo to Atari as part of their deal to partner with them to bring the Famicom to North America. The potential deal was forgotten and ignored moments later as Atari began to considered that the 1983-84 video game market crash was possibly the end of videogames rather than a long-term pause in the market. These prototypes are not under copyright but do contain trademarks.
