Cave Story is a freeware sidescrolling action/adventure/platformer title with leanings towards Wonderboy and recent sidescrolling Castlevania titles. You control a little amnesiac who runs around helping out these rabbit-ish creatures called Mimigas while trying to find your way out of the giant cave inside the floating island which makes up the game's setting. You can expand your health meter by collecting Life Capsules in similar fashion to Metroid games, while you can get stronger by collecting energy to boost your firearms' output. Each weapon can be built up to the maximum level (3) fairly quickly, but taking damage will drain energy from its experience meter, sometimes causing it to level down. Given how quickly they power up this only tends to be an issue during boss fights, and even then there's usually plenty of opportunities for collecting more weapon energy. The game has loads of secrets, too. Shih Tzu and I haven't found everything, and we've each played it through a couple of times (not to mention having read the script.) It's pretty awesome that way. For a freeware Japanese platformer, it's fairly lengthy and has quite a large amount of text. I'd guesstimate that each playthrough, provided you knew what you were doing, would take about 4-6 hours. Tack on an extra couple of hours if you don't know what you're doing, possibly for extreme problems with nasty bosses (which this game has plenty of, especially towards the end.) We're also talking three very different endings, plenty of plot, and quite a cast of charming characters. It really is a superb little gem :)

[29]***The last of the Final Fantasy series to be released for any Nintendo system, Final Fantasy VI showed a bit of improvement on the side of graphics. However the game falls out of balance quickly, espically after getting espers. The story was alright, but this is not one of my favorates of the series. The music from this game, however, is some of the best in any Final Fantasy game.***From my point of view this was the peak of the series, possibly not including VII. The combat system was refined from V and the story is much more gripping, even from early on. That and the increased dose of humour that was reflected in Chrono Trigger and then in FFVII, a welcome improvement.

(The odd numbering is due to the fact that this was the sixth FF game in Japan, but only the 3rd to get a US release, hence the English translation was badged as Final Fantasy III)
[Flying_Arsedoctor]***A great RPG that could've been better... the only thing that I didn't like about this game was the character classes. ALL the characters can use ALL magic, and most of the equipment can be used by everyone. There is really nothing that sets one character apart from another. Sure you have the special skills, but trust me, those become obsolete fast. Towards the end, all of your characters will be either dual-wielding or casting Ultima in every battle.

There is also an unofficial re-translation of the game, which according to the authors (RPGOne) is more faithful to the original. 7 de 10***Besides removing pretty much everything that was bad about ME1, ME2 has some other improvements besides that. Though I did miss driving with the Mako on the planet with the Thorian, I'm still glad planetary surveys had been simplified to manual scanner sweeps over the old drive around with the Mako till you find something of interest. The game's RPG elements have been simplified, as most weapon skills no longer exist, and the ones that exist are temporary boosts or similar. Biotics were largely unchanged, though some new powers were added. A unique(?) feature was introduced with every single skill branching on the last (fourth) level into two alternatives that give various benefits. Otherwise the game remains largely the same, though there's almost none of the tedious running "quests" ME1 had on the Citadel. The locations you visit are much smaller, but generally speaking more unique. You won't feel like you're visiting the same place for the thousandth time unless you really are. That comes obviously with the cost that there's less optional things to do besides scanning planets for minerals, though I didn't bother to scan any more than was necessary (which probably left well over two thirds of the systems unexplored).

To summarize: ME2 is better in almost all aspects I could care about in ME1's sequel, was somewhat amazed at this achievement myself.***[b]Minimum:[/b]

Mass Effect 3 is the third game in the series and forms the final part of the trilogy. As with previous games in the series, gameplay combines tactical, squad- and cover-based third-person combat with role-playing, in the form of different classes, customizable upgrades and dialogue choices. As with the second part of the trilogy, save files from the previous games can be imported with decisions being made in the first two games having an effect on the new situations.

In addition to combat difficulty selection, the player is offered a choice of three modes before starting the game. The "action" mode bypasses conversation choices, displaying them as non-interactive cutscenes; the "story" mode keeps choices intact, but lowers combat difficulty. The "role-playing" mode reflects most closely the gameplay of the two previous games, containing both choices and more challenging combat.

Most of combat-related and character development features have been carried out from the preceding installment. Melee combat plays a somewhat larger role: certain classes possess the ability to execute powerful charged close-combat moves. Weapons can be modified with two enhancements each, gaining more firepower, large magazines, increased accuracy, etc. Like before, abilities and powers can be upgraded when leveling up; each of them now offer two upgrade choices per level, and selecting one of them will lock the other enhancement permanently.

Entirely new to the series is a multiplayer option in the form of the co-op game mode Galaxy at War. It involves up to four players cooperatively taking over enemy strongholds. Players can take part in Galaxy at War as any race in the game's universe.***

A very good 3D translation for a well done game. Zelda fans will not be dissappointed with all the features this game has to offer.

Although it's not quite 'Game of the Century', Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a thrilling adventure from start to finish. It has huge dungeons, hundreds of puzzles, fun boss fights, and many secrets to uncover, all enveloped in a gorgeous 3D environment. It may be cliche to say this, but Zelda 64 is easily my favorite N64 game.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time  Nintendo (EAD Software Development Group 3)2002Ura Zelda was originally a 64DD game (Nintendo 64 Disk Drive), but the game was canceled due to the poor sales of the system.
This entry is for the complete Ocarina of Time and Ura Zelda collection. Ura Zelda is called Ocarina of Time: Master Quest in this package. The Master Quest differs by using harder dungeons and not following the same rules (ie: cows in Jabu-Jabu). Both are presented in 640x480 resolution instead of the original 320×240, and both are compatible with 640x480p progressive scan mode (Hold the B button when turning on the GameCube). While the resolution is double, object textures are not.
