Conquests of the Longbow: The Legend of Robin Hood | Sierra On-Line | 1992 | The Gauntlet has been Dropped The most intriguing and enduring outlaw of all time comes to life in Sierra's richest, most complex game yet. To survive, you must use compassion as well as wits and cunning. Think Fast. Choose Well. Armed with logic, creativity and moral judgement, you'll face some of the most intricate and challenging puzzles you've ever seen. Many puzzles have multiple solutions with varying implications - some more desirable than others. Even the game itself has at least five possible endings. Magic, Beauty, Motion and Music. The art of Robin Hood is inspiring. Created with the brilliant palette of an illuminated medieval manuscript, it's a festival of light and color. Experience the splendor of 12th century England, from the grime of Nottingham to the vibrancy of Sherwood. The detailed video-captured animation is fluid and varied; most characters you meet have unique animated portraits. Designer Christy Mars, creator of the critically acclaimed Conquests of Camelot, once again blends history, legend and pure magic to create a breathtaking adventure game. FEATURES: More puzzles than any previous Sierra adventure game. Arcade sequences with adjustable levels of difficulty, including auto-win. Original soundtrack based on medieval music styles, using the sounds of period instruments. A no-typing, point-and-click interface. | Amiga | labelimagesubject |
Defender of the Crown | Ultra Games;Palcom Software (Beam Software) | 1989 | The in-game story seems to refer to the end of the second crusade and one of the few battles that the crusading forces actually won. Undoubtedly this is backstory and the game is set some time later than 1149 and sooner than 1199 (which is the historical beginning of John of England's reign). Probably the murdered king mentioned is Henry II of England, who actually died of natural causes in 1189; but his health was certainly not improved by the actions of his sons, especial Prince John. Never the less, the in-game date begins counting from October 1149. The game takes much dramatic license. The player is one of the six knights mentioned in the story and all of these knights will be battling for England. Defender of the Crown | Cinemaware (Master Designer Software) | 1987 | Cinemaware says "512k", "Not compatible with Mac II", "800k Drive", "Hard disk installable" This entry is tagged "macos3" (System 3.0) for minimum compatibility due to the 800k drive requirement in 1987. I'm pretty sure Apple never intended 800k drives for System versions 1 or 2 and even attempting this would require pointlessly downgrading a Mac to an older system software. (safe to say macos1 and macos2 are not supported, even if possible) Defender of the Crown crashes before loading on Mac OS 8 or later. Cinemaware never provided a patch or workaround. Defender of the Crown can be run using the OS Classic emulator, if properly configured. | Mac OS Classic | labelimageminimize |

King's Quest II: Romancing the Stones | Tierra;AGDI (Tierra) | 2002 | An updated version of the never released remake of the original King's Quest II. That is, a remake of a never released remake :) Text input, except for a few key plot necessities, is replaced with point&click. Graphics are beautiful VGA. Superb music and sound (optional). And many of the original voice actors from later official King's Quest games lent their voices to this unofficial remake (also optional). Play in window or full screen, 1.33 fullscreen (anamorphic) or 1.60 widescreen, and 320x200 or 640x400. Like the original, this game is unfair :) So save often. A knowledge of nursery rhymes, anagrams, fairytales, folktales, legends, ancient and classical literature such as Shakespeare is helpful. There are many objects to find and use in the game to score points. There are usually several solutions to a problem that score a different amount of points. Misusing items will subtract points, sometimes permanently. Sierra granted AGDI a legally binding 'Fan License' for this game. King's Quest II: Romancing the Stones | Tierra;AGDI (Tierra) | 2002 | This is a relatively unknown game yet a masterpiece within the point and click genre and top rate among all videogames. A notable difference in this remake is the personalization of King Graham's quest. There is no ultimatum given, no threat to the kingdom, that compels King Graham; his reasons are deeply personal. As are the motivations of nearly every character in the game. This remake presents a huge leap in maturity and seriousness rivaled only by the tone of the fairytales it references (in their pre-Grimm's incarnations). Like the fairytale originals, there's things in this game that should make you skirm and things you won't want to think about too much. But, it's still fun and contains humorous moments.***King Graham having ascended to the thrown now rules Daventry, alone. Aware of his loneliness, and when finally having it pointed out to him by a trusted official of the Kingdom, King Graham consults his Magic Mirror. The Magic Mirror shows him the remote world of Kolyma and beautiful woman held prisoner in a tower there. King Graham sets out on a romantic quest, casting aside royal privilege to mingle with a myriad of ancient and modern fairytale characters in Kolyma presented, for the most part, in their original serious and dark forms. An updated version of the never released remake of the original King's Quest II. That is, a remake of a never released remake :) (the improved Apple IIGS version noted, but not accepted as a remake by Sierra's standards). Text input, except for a few key plot necessities, is replaced with point&click. Graphics are beautiful VGA. Superb music and sound (optional). And many of the original voice actors from later official King's Quest games lent their voices to this unofficial remake (also optional). Robin Hood | Arcadia Systems | 1991 | Arcadia finished this game right about the time Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves (Kevin Costner's Robin Hood) was about to hit theaters. Arcadia didn't have the money to obtain an official license from the movie nor did they care to revamp the game. Publishing the game then would mean poor sales (people would be expecting an official PoT version). An official game for the movie also was coming which would further hurt sales for Arcadia's version. This finished game never made it to official publishing. However, it is available as a reproduction cartridge. | NES | labelminimizeminimize |

Robin Hood 2: The Siege | Phoenix Games Group | 2006 | XII century England. Richard, the true King of England, is absent from the throne, waging crusades in the Holy Land. Chaos rages in the country, while greedy Norman Lords are oppressing poor Saxon people. But not all of them want to abide with the cruelty unleashed upon them. Young and brave archer Robin Hood, who's house was taken by the local Sheriff of Nottingham, gathers a group of fine men and sets out for the woods of Sherwood to fight and bring the justice back... | PS2 | labelimagesubject |
Robin Hood: Adventures in Sherwood Forest | Hi-Tech Expressions | 1991 | Yet another Robin Hood game unpublished for NES because of the Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves movie. This one is a port of Millennium's The Adventures in Sherwood Forest which was published for several home computers. Millennium obtained a license to tie those versions to the Kevin Costner movie despite the game having nothing at all to do with it. At least one computer version featured the image from movie poster. Other versions (as presumably this one does) uses a very similar image with a model that is not Kevin Costner. The license for an official game based on the movie ended up being sold to a different company. This game uses an isometric view and archery plays an major role in this Action RPG's gameplay. | NES | labelminimizeminimize |
