Moria  author? While moria is in Ubuntu repositories, this version often fails to run on older Ubuntu based distributions. Compiling from the sources in the Ubuntu repositories seems to have the same result. But the moria package from the Debian repos runs and compiles fine. moria from Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty repos works.***Deep Within the Mines of Moria the Balrog awaits. You are tasked with defeating it. Moria is obviously based on Tolkien's works. Moria has other Tolkien creatures and characters and some Dungeon's & Dragons inspired content also (D&D itself was heavily inspired by Tolkien's works). The player may choose a Human, Half-Elf, Elf, Halfling, Gnome, Dwarf, Half-Orc, or Half-Troll character and a Warrior, Mage, Priest, Rogue, Ranger, or Paladin class (note some races cannot choose some classes). Delve deeper for the best treasures, but going deeper is riskier; one slip and the protagonist dies, permanently, no resurrections, savegame deleted. No going back to an earlier save either, doing so marks your file and all records of your character will vanish on game over or winning.

Moria is based on the design of Rogue (it is a clone that shares no code or data with Rogue) but has notable variations in gameplay. Most significant is the 6 shops on the surface that the protagonist may visit to buy and sell equipment, supplies, armor, weapons, scrolls, books, potions, and magical items. The surface is only one screen in size, not really an 'overworld' like in Angband and other roguelikes based on this game. UNIX Moria also served as inspiration for the design of Diablo. Moria was created using VMS Pascal ("Moria") when Robert Alan Koeneke and Jimmey Wayne Todd found that Rogue, their addiction at the time, was not available on VAX-11/780 minicomputers. UNIX Moria (umoria) is a port of "Moria" written in C language. Many subsequent ports and forks of "Moria" were based on umoria. The original license permitting sharing and modification but not commercial use. At some point, an agreement was reached by every person who ever maintained Moria to release its source code under the GPL license. Linux umoria has since become the standard version of sorts and is even called "Moria" by the current maintainer. Although, it is still a actively maintained VAX/VMS game.

NetHack  Manifesto Games;DevTeam (DevTeam)?NetHack is a wonderfully silly, yet quite addictive, Dungeons &
Dragons-style adventure game. You play a character from one of many
classes (such as wizard, ranger, or tourist), fighting your way down to
retrieve the Amulet of Yendor (try saying THAT one backwards!) for your
god. On the way, you might encounter a quantum mechanic or two, or
perhaps King Arthur, or - if you're REALLY lucky - the Ravenous
Bugblatter Beast of Traal.

You should install a front-end for NetHack if you
wish to play the game. Each of them includes the
original non-graphical version, and they can all be installed
at the same time:
- nethack-console: no graphics, just plain NetHack;
- nethack-x11 : original X11/Athena-based graphical version;
- nethack-qt : Qt-based graphical version;
- nethack-lisp : Lisp window version.***Version 3.0.0 was a major jump from version [game=#162666]2.3[/game] in size, scope, features and development style. This was the first release of the current version (as of 2007)

Xbattle author?xbattle is a concurrent multi-player game which combines elements of
strategy with arcade-like action to capture a wide range of military
scenarios. Opponents play from separate displays, with commands being
executed concurrently -- the players do not take "turns", but rather they
all issue their commands simultaneously. There can be any number of
players, with each player assigned to a specific team, indicated by marker
colors. The game board is a matrix of cells (square, hexes, etc.) that can
be occupied by colored troops, with the goal of the game being to eliminate
the enemy from the board by attacking cells occupied by enemy troops. A
wide variety of command line options (and previously configured game files)
provide an abundance of different scenarios and gaming environments.

Kobo Deluxe  -1999DESCRIPTION
Kobo Deluxe is a 3’rd person scrolling 2D shooter with a simple and responsive control system - which you’ll need to tackle the tons of enemy ships that shoot at you, chase you, circle around you shooting, or even launch other ships at you, while you’re trying to destroy the labyrinth shaped bases. There are 50 action packed levels with smoothly increasing difficulty, and different combinations of enemies that require different tactics to be dealt with successfully.
Kobo Deluxe has an improved graphics engine that delivers smoother animation, while keeping the game logic totally accurate and predictable regardless of frame rate. It also adds sound effects, new graphics, fullscreen mode, four extra skill levels with smoother gameplay and various other features expected from a modern game. (There is still a "Clasic" mode that plays exactly like the original XKobo.)

Kobo Deluxe uses SDL for sound, graphics and input, and builds and runs
on all major operating systems, as well as some more unusual platforms.
It can also use OpenGL for accelerated rendering, through glSDL.
In short, Kobo Deluxe is loads of classical arcade style fun for just about any machine with graphics and sound!

CONTROLS
The ship can be controlled with the keyboard, or optionally a mouse or joystick. With the keyboard, the arrow keys move the ship (two keys for diagonals), and the shift and ctrl keys shoots. The numeric key pad can also be used; the usual 2/4/6/8 (arrows), and also 1/3/7/9 for single key diagonals. Escape enters the meny system, from where it is possible to change settings, start a new game or exit the game.

Civilization: Call to Power  Loki;SuSE;Corel (Loki)1999This is a proprietary and commercial game and the first Linux game ever bought from store shelves with no requirements to buy a different version of the game for another OS. [gameid=#80673]Inner Worlds[/game] precedded it but was hidden in the DOS version of that game. [game=#167810]Doom[/game] came before Inner Worlds but also required buying a different version of Doom and a download of the Linux version.

Corel at one time published a version of this game titled Civilization: Call to Power Limited Edition. It was exclusive to the CorelLinux distro. However, Loki later took over support for this version. Loki closed in 2002.

UFO 2000 UFO2000 Development Team20??Initial release in 2001-04-19, far from complete or even out of alpha/beta.***THE PROJECT

UFO2000 is free and opensource turn based tactical squad simulation multiplayer game. It is heavily inspired by the famous X-COM: UFO Defense game. While UFO2000 engine was specifically designed to be compatible with the graphics resources and maps from X-COM, you don't need any proprietary data files to play as a new fan-made set of graphics exists and is included in UFO2000 distribution by default (see screenshot), so the game is ready to run out of the box. But if you want an exact X-COM look and feel, you have an option of installing original X-COM and TFTD data files and use them for extending UFO2000 with additional maps, weapon sets and units.

TECHNOLOGY

UFO2000 is written in portable C++ and is known to compile and run on Linux, FreeBSD and Windows. Latest versions of UFO2000 can work on various architectures such as 64-bit Linux (AMD64), MacOS X (PowerPC) and Linux powered handhelds (ARM)

Right now only human vs. human multiplayer is supported. This is not so bad, especially considering that you may find human opponents much more challenging than a stupid AI in the original games. Up to this moment UFO2000 development was primarily focused on portability and expandability (the game can be extended using lua scripting language), independence from proprietary data files was also a very important milestone.

Ice Breaker author2000So, uh, there's a bunch of penguins on an iceberg in Antarctica. You have
been selected to catch them so they can be shipped to Finland, where they
are essential to a secret plot for world domination.

In order to trap the penguins, you'll need to break the iceberg into small
chunks. (They're afraid of water, for no apparent reason. Ah well. "The
Matrix" had more plot holes than this, and it still was a hit.) You do
this by melting lines in the ice with Special High-Tech GNU Tools.

Once 80% or more of the iceberg is gone, the remaining chunks are small
enough for shipping. Of course, if you manage to get rid of more than
that, you'll save on postage, thus earning you exponential amounts of Geek
Cred (a.k.a. "score").

xwelltris author2002XWelltris is a tetris like popular game.
Imaging that you are looking into the glass from the top. You see four walls and the bottom. The flat 2d figures falling down from the walls one by one. You can move these figures from one wall to another or rotate them. If the figure leave the wall then it moves on the bottom while another figure is pushed. You need to form full rows and/or columns on the bottom. When you form such row, it disappear and you receive additional empty space on the bottom and scores :). The more rows disappear at a time, the more scores you have. If you can't place the whole figure on the bottom, then it stays on the wall and this wall became frozen (you can't place figures on it) for a while. After nth rows were successfully cleared, you will receive bonus figure and go to to the next level - game speed will be increased. Your task is to play more longer and earn more scores.

The game options allow you to play with two, three, four, five or six piece figures, mix them together, show next figure and switch on rotation of the game board! Try it, it's very funny.

Globulation 2 -2004This is an RTS (Real Time Strategy) game designed to reduce micromanagement. The player does not pick out individual citizens to command. But rather, the player specifies how many citizens a task will take and the citizens do their best to fill that number. The player can assign more or less people depending on how fast he wants the task done and what tasks are a high priority.
The citizens in the game are globs. There are worker globs that are the main population. There's also specialized winged explorer blobs that can fly anywhere to take a peek and also drop bombs if their level is sufficient. Finally there are specialized buffed out warrior blobs that can defend and attack other blobs or buildings. Different blobs have different nutritional requirements that can be filled by different foods, some of which are rare in most scenarios, but all blobs need wheat, which is usually common. Buildings need different materials that the workers will need to fetch. There are buildings to teach, general knowledge, swimming, military, and speed. Feeding stations to store and distribute food. Hospitals to heal the sick and wounded. Trade centers to better distributed rare foods. Towers and walls to militantly defend areas. Finally, players can create zones and points of interest to direct workers away from or too an area to explore, attack, defend, or clear vegetation. The computer fills the opponents rolls if human players are not available via LAN, Ysagoon Online Gaming (Internet), or even on a single computer using a little Linux magic. For single computer multiplayer, each player will need their own distinct mouse and keyboard properly configured.
