Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom Capcom1993***A beat'em up with many layers of complexity, very engaging in multiplayer mode (with a great focus on classes' synergy)

8 de 10***Based on AD&D rules this game worked on the same principal as Streets of Rage only much more advanced. There were four characters (elf, cleric, dwarf, fighter) and a maximum of four players at once though these machines were rare. Each level had a nasty boss and the ultimate aim was to kill the evil Lich king.
Characters could carry many items at a time including daggers, burning oil, magical items, rings and spell scrolls. Every character had several alternate weapons and could pick up and wear different equipment to reduce damage taken, jump higher, hit harder ect. There were shops every few levels where items could be bought and sold. Most monsters killed dropped either gold or items.
As the game progressed characters went up levels and gained more spells (elf and cleric) or better weapons (fighter and dwarf).
Control consisted of one eight way stick and 4 buttons (attack, jump, use and select) per player, so there was much fighting for elbow room. Pressing start while playing showed what equipment you were currently wearing.

Alien vs Predator Capcom1994Alien vs. Predator is a 2D side scrolling beat'em up based on the Alien and Predator film franchises. Up to three players can pick from four characters to kill alien hordes and human enemies: there are two cybernetically enhanced humans (Major Dutch Schaefer, based on Arnold Schwarzenegger's character from Predator, and Lieutenant Linn Kurosawa) and 2 Predators (Warrior and Hunter).

All characters are equipped with a gun for ranged attacks, and three also have melee weapons: Linn has a katana, the Hunter has a bladed staff, and the Warrior has an extendable-retractable spear/staff. Dutch uses a cybernetic arm instead of a weapon. Gameplay is typical for the genre - players must walk to the right, kill all enemies, and defeat bosses.
[Moby Games]***Best game concept I have ever seen to this date. Basic Final Fight genre. One of first to incorperate Street Fighter II moves with side-scroller genre.

19XX: The War Against Destiny Capcom199619XX: The War Against Destiny is a 2D vertical scrolling shooter game taking place against a fictional background, unlike the preceding installments of the series, which used a World War II setting.

The game offers three planes to choose from - Lightning, Mosquito and Shinden. Each aircraft has it's own statistics and special weapon. As usual, there are upgrades and a supply of bombs. The bombs can be charged up for more powerful effects.

Another familiar element are boss battles at the end of stages, where a particularly strong enemy must be defeated to advance.

Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara Capcom1996Has two different arcade versions, one for 1-2 players (you can see the inventory of each one) and another for 1-4 players.***A paragon of the beat'em up genre in every sense of the word.

Sums a very intrincate and really well crafted story, some "choose your own path" dialogue options, inventory management, and an incredible and engaging gameplay in one game.

9 de 10***
[27]***The sequel to Tower of Doom, Shadow over Mystara was exactly the same, Except better. There were now six playable characters, a cleric, an elven fighter/mage, a mage, a thief, a human fighter and a dwarven fighter (more damage but slower). In addition to the extra characters each of them has 2 alternate sets of graphics so two people could play the same character but look completely different, in fact the alternate characters even had different sounds and spells.
The aim of the game was to kill the dragon Synn and along the way was the usual collection of enemies and nasty bosses. The game had branching paths at certain points and a cool bit where you got to drive a boat. Items were expanded on from the original, more equipment, boots of speed, a displacer cloak and many more. There were also more weapons including magic and cursed swords and more items, money could be transferred between characters in shops and the cleric could heal other players.
Control stayed the same as in Tower of doom with a few refinements. To the best of my knowledge this was the most complex of the 'run around and hit things' games, it was also the last in 2-D (gauntlet legends being the only other I can think of)

Marvel Vs. Capcom - Clash of Super Heroes Capcom;Marvel1998This is the last Capcom's hardcore fighting games, following the tradition you can see high jumps, aereal combos, hyper combos, ... nothing new...BUT!

1st: New characters to select and other not so new.
A total of 15 fighters to select from diferent Capcom's games and Marvel's super heroes
New Fighters: Not so new Fighters:
Jin Ryu (includes Ken and Akuma)
Strider Hiryu Chun-Li
Megaman(Rockman) Zangief
Captain Comando Morrigan
Venom Spider-Man
War Machine Wolverine
Gambit
Hulk
Captain America

2nd: Helpers!
A lot of Capcom's and Marvel's characters to select, including
Cyclops, Rogue, Lou, Shadow, Thor, Colossus, ... (really a lot of them). You can call them and help you to finish your oponent.

3rd: Secret Characters (and places to fight):
Secret characters and places to fight are also available in the game. (I've personally found a japanese bathroom, something like E.Honda's SF2 scenario).

4th: A new battle mode.
My favorite one. Following the line, you can earn level (for hyper combos, like X-Men vs SF, MSH vs SF), the new mode
consists in a 2 on 1. YES!, you read well 2 on 1. You can play with your two fighters at the same time against your oponent and if hi want to... Yes, all the four fighters in the screen. Only think about it!

5th: No more Apocalypse or Cyber-Akuma, this is the time for Onslaught (A combination of Magneto and Professor X)

Street Fighter Alpha 3  Capcom1998Street Fighter Alpha 3 marks a massive leap forward for the 2D beat-'em-up genre.

Packed with 31 characters past and present, each have the ability to customise their fighting styles in the special World Tour mode.

The Street Fighter series is about to take a whole new direction as Alpha 3 takes players on a World Tour, with bouts taking place in cities across the globe in a bruising battle to be the ultimate Street Fighter.

An innovative aspect of the game is the ability to move through the rankings to prove that you are the best!***

1944: The Loop Master Capcom (Eighting;Raizing)2000This is the 5th original part in Capcom's 194X series of top-down shoot'em ups. This time you have the choice to board the P-38 Lightning or Mitsubishi A6M Zero WWII planes and test your shooting skills in 15 stages.

Like its predecessor, 19XX: The War Against Destiny, it features a charge up system. When holding down the fire button, the charge bar will fill, and when full, the plane will fly up and become temporarily invincible.

Players start out with only one life. The plane has a health bar which decreases after every hit but can be increased again by picking up (rare) health items.
