DRM: Encryption

Software concept

Uses DRM that involves encrypting all or parts of the game data, executables, etc. Which is decrypted with proper serial key and/or online activation.

The first video game about DRM: Encryption was released on September 28, 2010.

If this requires online activation, then this is used to prevent playing a game before its official launch date, so even if retail breaks the official release date to which they usually agree to, the customers still can't play them earlier than they're "supposed to".
Implementations:
* Steamworks retail releases (not all cases) and pre-loads
* Microsoft ZDPP (Zero Day Piracy Protection)
