Fear of Nothing

Culture concept

Player (character) is lead to believe something scary is out there, but ultimately there isn't anything. Repeatedly.

This is more a horror fiction trick than actual fear (not related to nihilophobia, fear of nothingness, which is not scientifically accepted phobia even).

Can be dragged indefinitely, producing a tense piece of fiction where the expectation of danger is always there, but it never really comes.

Note that this is not really for cases where the perceived danger is actually something ordinary either, as that is more like fear of the ordinary than nothing.

Can be considered a part of the definition for fear of unknown but not synonymous with it as unknown does not imply there's nothing there, but since it's unknown, it might be nothing.
