Video game concept

Getting punched, shot, or otherwise hit with something has a habit of sending people flying rather spectacular distances.

Often limited to the killing blow, but can occur otherwise. Also a hallmark of certain weapons.

Generally speaking, a human punching someone does not throw them away, even if they applied force to purposefully push/throw someone it wouldn't be very impressive without help from the person getting pushed. Getting shot with a pistol, even a large caliber such as "magnum", does not send people flying as it tears through the body rather than slamming flat on it and throwing the person (nor do the bullets drag people with them). Shotgun is also often a signature weapon for throwing people around, but it simply has large number of projectiles, though they aren't as well designed for piercing as bullets are. You'd generally expect similar effect as from hitting them with a baseball bat in the stomach or chest: wobble and likely toppling backwards due to the injury, but not flying. Likely what you see flying isn't the person, but rather their blood or bits of them if such were torn off. This goes even with explosives, the things you see are usually bits torn off the person that fly rather than the person themselves (though they do fly somewhat too if they're too close to the explosion or the explosion is big enough, though whether they'd be still be in one piece when they fly is another matter).
