Editor note

The author is doing things bit differently. A cross-platform game made from scratch in C, by one programmer, without outside code. Not so much a retro game as it is a game made using a retro process. The making of the game is being public documented with daily updates and live streams of the development process.
This may be particularly educational for GNU/Linux gamers who are often confounded by (and dismissive of) developers' reasons for delays and abandonment of the platform. Likewise, this may be particularly educational to developers who often do not realize they are trying to make GNU/Linux games the Windows way. It is a crowd-funded game. Many funders think of crowdfunding as investing money to get the rewards they want. For Handmade Hero, funders get _everything_ up to and including the reward at the end. They get access to the development materials, art, beta versions, the developer, and all source code for every change.
