Editor note

Servers originally used Oracle Enterprise Database running on a cluster of SPARC severs running Solaris. There was a panicked port to UNIX early on due to 100,000 users signing up in the first month. The database system was change to another one at this time also. By 2003 a planned port to Red Hat was completed. The servers today remain mostly Red Hat with other Linux distros seeing periodic use on individuals servers.
