Leading Soviet scientists start a big experiment that alter human physiology and mentality in order to create super humans capable of building bright future and communism all over the world. But something goes wrong...
As a result the whole city, where that experiment took place, goes on a rampage. The majority of citizens died, and those who survived turned into hideous mutants - the only inhabitants of deserted streets.
You Are Empty immerses you in an exaggerated dark and obscure atmosphere of Soviet totalitarianism. Fighting against mutants, that obtained super power after the experiment was carried out, the main hero tries to gain an understanding of what's happening around and save the day.

Game world

The game takes place in a big Soviet town with beautiful Stalin architecture and colossal monuments dedicated to the communist future. The inhabitants fell prey to a huge experiment carried out by a group of scientists. Most of the people died, but the ones that survived lost their human appearance and control of their deeds and behavior. Moreover there are a lot of plants and factories inside the town and in the outskirts. A part of them is still functioning.

Enemies

Original and vivid enemies are one of the features of the game. In You Are Empty players will face strange and weird monsters - former Soviet citizens which mutated and gained super powers after the experiment.
Distinctive and vivid characters that you will remember long after are one of the game's key features. You can meet them in our Bestiary section.

Game features

* Unique conventionalized environment of the Soviet totalitarian society.
* Fascinating and unusual storyline.
* Superb visual effects, including post-effects.

2007-08-24 on Steam***Both the full game and the demo use SecuROM 7.x copy protection. SecuROM is used to enforce CD-in-drive, enforce an online activation, to damage the data on the CD to try to prevent coping it, and was for a much hated "installation limit" that prevented more than 3 install attempts. The geniuses at 2k game didn't want people installing the product on multiple PCs simultaneously and figured that limiting attempts would do the trick. Ingoring the fact that the CD-in-drive restriction already prevents multiple installations from running simultaneously. In reality, it caused the game to be uninstallable if the install process was abandon 3 times (due to errors, or failed requirements such as HD space, or just someone changing their mind). It also forbid reinstallation in cases of a crashed PC or transfer to new computer or in cases of system restore. Any finally, it was possible to successfully install 3 copies on 3 PCs simultaneously, this restriction failed in its purpose! After much complaint, 2k games announced, "Good news! As promised, all activation restrictions, including install limits, have been removed from BioShock PC as of today. You don't have to patch or install anything for this to go into effect for your copy of BioShock – it's already done! " This is NOT and announcement of removal of SecuROM! 2kgames later said "Our other methods of copy protection remain. You will still have to activate your copy, and you will still need to keep the disc in the drive. SecuROM has not been removed" So the cpremoved tag does not yet apply.
[Zerothis]***
No encounter ever plays out the same way twice. No two gamers will ever play BioShock the same way.
This is because the game has quite rapid respawn rate (enough rapid to be irritating and making the game into forced slugfest), causing encounters to happen even if not wanted and the creatures wander around aimlessly through the levels with apparently nothing to do. They sometimes huddle over corpses as if there was something interesting there, but there really isn't (I had scavenged all valuables from those corpses long ago).

Though I have to admit that I did play it on the hardest difficulty, so maybe that's (the rapid respawn) the only way they could think of how to make it more difficult. Didn't have much chance for stealth or alternative approaches when the guys were running everywhere.

Although it was advertized that munitions were supposedly scarce, I never really ran out of them, actually I was almost constantly maxed, except in the particular weapon I had taken a liking of and after fighting swarms and swarms of suddenly script-spawning enemies or after fighting a Big Daddy (they really can take a beating).

The only ways this game is better than Quake 4, Doom 3 or the like is that it's more free roaming (though there's very little use for it), has conversations and some sort of plot twists as well as the light RPG-ness in form of weapon and plasmid upgrades.

The number of choices of approach are quite limited actually, either you shoot them or you.. well.. shoot them. Sneaking past them is usually impossible, or simply just ridiculously difficult opposed to just shooting them and the game has too many scripted sequences where you have to shoot them regardless of how you wanted to do it.

The reliance on scripted sequences for variance is too old, but gives stronger story (scripted sequences are required to have a story, but the use of them outside it is not very good). Some of the things that happened were also very retro FPS-like, for example the one case where I picked up a new gun and swarms of new Mobs were spawned so I could "test it out".

Sad little game in that regard, but can be fun if you ignore all that.

On the confrontation with Ryan, I heard a rather poor explanation for it once (if I remember it correctly, they simply assumed Ryan was raving mad). My own interpretation of it, however, is different.
Ryan first demonstrates the protagonist's dilemma, he's been "programmed" to follow orders of others, with key words activating certain behaviour and in this case, simple "please" would force the protagonist to do as was asked. Protagonist ridiculously follows Ryan's brief orders ("turn around", "run", etc.) followed by "please", until finally Ryan gives him a golf club and tells the protagonist to "kill" (please), while the protagonist is beating him to death, Ryan solemnly repeats a motto: "Man chooses, slave obeys." which he had said earlier (IIRC). This is where some might think Ryan is insane, however, to me he seems idealistic or something that the protagonist is not a slave as he was made to be (which he also demonstrated with his earlier commands), but a free man, able to choose his own actions. Unfortunately, the protagonist is unable to break through the "programming" (mind control) and finally kills Ryan.
***BioShock is a shooter unlike any you've ever played, loaded with weapons and tactics never seen. You'll have a complete arsenal at your disposal from simple revolvers to grenade launchers and chemical throwers, but you'll also be forced to genetically modify your DNA to create an even more deadly weapon: you. Injectable plasmids give you super human powers: blast electrical currents into water to electrocute multiple enemies, or freeze them solid and obliterate them with the swing of a wrench.

No encounter ever plays out the same, and no two gamers will play the game the same way.

* Biologically modify your body: send fire storming from your fingertips and unleash a swarm of killer hornets hatched from the veins in your arms.
* Hack devices and systems, upgrade your weapons and craft new ammo variants.
* Turn everything into a weapon: the environment, your body, fire and water, and even your worst enemies.

You are a cast-away in Rapture, an underwater Utopia torn apart by civil war. Caught between powerful forces, and hunted down by genetically modified "splicers" and deadly security systems, you have to come to grips with a deadly, mysterious world filled with powerful technology and fascinating characters. No encounter ever plays out the same, and no two gamers will play the game the same way.

BioShock is loaded with some of greatest, most modifiable weapons to ever blast their way into a shooter. But guns alone won't be enough to defeat the devious AIs of Rapture. There are literally hundreds of other strategies players can use to take out his enemies. Here's just a few things you can do a foe:

* Catch his Grenades in Mid Air and Toss Them Back at Him
* Freeze Him Solid and Shatter Him with Smack of your Wrench
* Lead him and his comrades to water and Zap them all with 1000 Volts
* Burn Him Up With Home-Made Molotov Cocktails
* Booby Trap Healing Machines and Watch Them Blow up IN his Face
* Brainwash Him to Become Your Personal BodyGuard
* Invent your own Ammo Types to Prey on his Vulnerabilities
* Turn his own Security System Against Him
* Light Him on Fire and Launch Heat Seeking Missiles At him
* Torment Him with Plagues of Insects
* Take Research Photos of Him to Learn his Weaknesses
* Send Him Flying into the Ceiling to Knock him Senseless

[2K Games]***In the middle of the north Atlantic, a lighthouse juts out of the water. Inside waits a rusted bathysphere, which takes you deep under the ocean to Rapture, a city sprawling along the sea floor.

A man named Andrew Ryan, a former Soviet citizen, built the city in 1946, and the society was envisioned as the ultimate capitalistic and individualist paradise, with the elite achieving for themselves, rather than for the whole. Protected by a network of giant sea walls and consisting of a cluster of enormous skyscraper-shaped hive towers, Rapture was designed to be entirely self-supporting, with all of its electricity, food production, water purification and defense systems powered by volcanic vents at the bottom of the ocean.

At one point Rapture's population numbered several thousand at its peak during the early 1960s, composed of those people Ryan viewed as the best examples of mankind. A large and tiered economy grew among the people, with different quality products catering to different levels of the society.

The grand Art Deco architecture is at once futuristic and archaic, but as you step into Rapture, you find the city a shell of itself. The walls are crumbling and the ocean is seeping in. The hallways are littered with corpses, those who were once the best and brightest of the world above are now mutated and mad, roaming the corridors and waiting to ambush you at every turn.

The Witcher  Atari;CD Projekt (CD Projekt RED)2007Andrzej Sapkowski, the creator of the Witcher universe, stated that he would not play the game since he has no interest in video games in general. However, he praised the game's opening cinematic, which (partially) tells the story of Sapkowski's very first short story, called simply Witcher (Wiedźmin). The Polish version of the game also comes with this short story.***The original (Polish) version of the game features some allusions to the Polish national-conservative party Law and Justice (Polish: Prawo i Sprawiedliwość). The party's name is mentioned by NPCs in the game in connection with corruption and discrimination against non-humans. Also at some point Geralt may dismiss an NPC saying "Spieprzaj, dziadu!" (approximately "Piss off, old man!"). The cofounder of Law and Justice and president (at the time the game was released) of Poland Lech Kaczyński once famously said those words to a heckler.***Un juego curioso, ya que su manejo e historía son de corte clásico (control en combate "por turnos", inventario complejo e historia de decisiones vinculantes)

The censoring (in NA release) is associated with all the instances where you have sex with the gals. This shows only a very scantily clad art piece of the person and nothing else, so it isn't really that explicit even. More like extremely suggestive. Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Capcom2007dying - Thermal Energy (T-ENG) functions as both the protagonist's health as their capacity for surviving in the cold environment, whenever they're not in a VS or indoors (which is rare) their T-ENG rapidbly drains. undefined healing - the T-ENG reserves are depleted to restore health automatically, no T-ENG means no healing. T-ENG is gained from destroyed Akrid and from the remains of any object that managed to explode, except for grenades, rockets and your piloted VS.***Minimum:

* X360 controller***Gameplay
For the most part it was fun, the levels were extremely small except for the vast expanses of nothing in some places. Fighting medium sized Akrid was especially fun when you didn't have a VS warming your buttocks. The largest variety were just tedious, especially the giant worm that I just avoided after trying to kill it for the fourtieth time (really, are all console games (Lost Planet is console game first and foremost) about repeating the same boss battle for half the whole playing time?) The best parts of the game were usually outdoors, indoors being mostly dull corridors or large halls (cities?) where you're most of the time stomping around with your VS. You seem to play most of the time in VS indoors and as Wayne outdoors, which is kinda funny since anyone with half-a-mind would expect this to be the otherway around. Caves were a bit of an exception for this, but caves are caves. Fighting NEVEC was the part I hated most, and it was the least sensical of it all.

Controls
Since I can configure them as I see fit, I can't really give an opinion on how good they were or not. Everything I could think of had separate button for it and nothing else. The only gripe I have is that the control instructions for the VS (there's two special buttons for VS) had this huge X360 controller showing how to use the different things on it. The problem is, I was playing with keyboard and mouse, and I had to learn them by trial and error since I couldn't make connections between the xbox controller config and my keyboard and mouse configuration (What were they thinking? That everyone has innate understanding of X360 controllers? Or even have them? I'm playing the game on PC so it's far more likely I have a keyboard and mouse in front of me than that blasted thing between my thumbs). Everything worked out well in the end, since trial-and-error works well usually. There were some issues of the controls not being responsive, or there were several different actions made to happen from the same button (only for some VS, not when running around naked with Wayne, our protagonist), this was the most obvious in the final boss battle.

Story
During the cut-scenes, I constantly got this nagging feeling that I've missed part of the story somewhere, but I couldn't figure out where. So it was greatly disjointed and oddly hurried. Quality wise the beginning started nicely, but degraded seriously over time and it was not much of a help that you had the feeling that there's parts of the story missing. The characters weren't developed much, but I don't think that was necessary, and even their own background info was only to clarify why they were there in the first place and nudge the plot forward a bit in a bit awkward manner. Of course there was also the "must" romantic affair, too. Also, the characters were awfully stereotypical, but since the game was so short, there was little chance of them being much else. There was also this strange part that you were alone running through every single Akrid hive and NEVEC base to get to some distant location while your friends lazily used alternative route on their huge ass truck / mobile base, until you joined them at the destinaton. This was never even explained, and in some cases where there was some reason to do it, they could've hauled you closer to the final target before letting you off running and gunning everything in sight. And finally, the ending was disappointing, but sadly this is the norm for almost anything except books.

Major gripes
The game suffers from the usual console game features: ridiculously over-powered boss fights compared to everything else and all too linear story/gameplay. Thermal energy meter gave nothing but another reason to die suddenly when you just happen to use some energy based weapon too much or take too many whacks to your head (Wayne regenerates to full health in seconds by taking a large dose out of your energy reserves). Really, it's just a health reserve that keeps draining itself slowly and sometimes faster (I couldn't figure out what this was based on, some articles have said it's based on the temperature of the surroundings, but that should've meant it shouldn't drop at all or maybe even increase when around volcanic actiivity, lava flow or a smelting pool in some factory). The only thing I did notice to actually cause difference was the use of energy weapons and the special abilities of the VS. Honestly speaking, the game went downhill sometime around the middle of the game when you started fighting NEVEC as much or even more than the Akrid.

Summary
Overall, I'll give it 2 out of 5. The game's emphasis is on graphics, besides that it is horribly lacking.***Supported videocards:

Strategy First published the game on 2007-10-18***For the first half of the 21st century, the war on terror became a global phenomena as more blatant and frenzied attacks struck deeper into the lives of common people. Inevitably, the pressure from public outcry to stop the madness grew to an irresistible level; the military forces of the world slowly but steadily retooled their outlooks, weapons, and tactics to combat people who were willing to die for their cause.

By 2100, the world was more or less at peace, with continued discord in some regions as modernized military forces sought to track down and destroy the remaining terrorist cells that continued to fight and harass civilian and military alike. Regardless, as this war began to wane, it slowly moved out of the public's eye, and they began to pick up the pieces and try to make better lives for themselves. Not since the years following World War II had such prosperity been felt across the planet; even war-ravaged regions received a "Marshall Plan" of sorts, having their infrastructures built up far beyond what they ever were before.

As prosperity grew, so too did the ventures of capitalism. In this day and age, science was the 'new capitalism,' fueling the growth of amazing new technologies. The first high-profile ventures into the creation of a viable fusion energy source, an offshoot of the efforts of the aging multinational oil companies, began in 2105 in the United States, with the backing of billions of dollars in venture and government capital. The International Power Initiative of 2112, an agreement among nations investing in the fusion power project, but eventually including many hundreds of other projects based on energy, radically restructured how science was to approach new energy sources. The level of freedom granted to a group of corporations might have been dangerous one hundred years ago, but it was felt that today since there was not a rivalry in the race to find the secrets of fusion power first, that giving a corporation autonomy to do what it needed to do would foster creativity and growth on an unheard-of scale.

It didn't.

***There has been several animated comics and apparently they're making a direct-to-DVD/Bluray animated film as well to cover the back story (and so far it seems like they're selling the movie separately). I truly hope these are included in the final game, I hate to miss out on the plot simply because the people want to make more money out of it.***achillesheelfoes / dismemberment — this is the only way you can defeat the necromorphs, by shooting or otherwise ripping off all their limbs. Just shooting at their head or torso won't help much (much like with zombies).
technomagic — (tele)kinesis and stasis devices, the latter of which literally creates a temporal distortion that significantly slows down the passge of time for the targeted object or creature (ergo, slowing their movements down to crawl).

7 de 10***A non-free large update to the original Cities XL, though through some channels owners of the original could get significant (50%) discount on the 2011 edition.***Imagine and Conceive cities of all types and sizes on Cities XL planet. From a several million citizens megalopolis to a hyped seaside resort, to an industrial city, everything is allowed in Cities XL 2011!

Take advantage of an incredible collection of more than 700 buildings and structures, 47 different types of maps featuring realistic environments. Enjoy never seen before freedom in a city-builder!

As a virtual mayor, find the right balance between economic development of your cities, attractiveness, transportation (road traffic, bus, metro...), pollution, social services, taxes and even leisure activities. For the first time in this kind of game, Cities XL 2011 finally let you go beyond the simple creation of a city! Connect every city that you build in a trade network, specialize some of them so that they can provide for others, thus creating a large-scale economy balance.

Key features:
* More than 700 buildings, structures and monuments inspired by various architectural styles.
* 47 incredibly detailed and diverse 3D maps: mountains, hills, canyons, islands, cliffs, as well as famous places: Hollywood, Manhattan, Paris, Hong Kong, the Krakatoa volcano...

8 de 10***Build cities, shape a world.
