Assault on Dolni Keep NEUC1987[The following text is copyrighted by Eamon Adventurer's Guild Online and presented here word-for-word thanks to their generous terms]

Playing Time: 30 minutes - 2 hours

Description:
You have been sought out to aid your two friends (from Thror’s Ring, #114), Gorim the Dwarf and Galehir the Wood Elf, in the rescue of the High-Elf, Fromir. Fromir’s wisdom is a vital asset to the forces of good in Middle-earth, but he has been seized by Orcs and imprisoned in Dolni Keep. Storming the keep would insure the quick demise of Fromir, but a small group might be able to penetrate the keep and affect the rescue. Gorim is going because the keep is of Dwarven construction. Galehir is going because the rescue of an Elf warrants an Elven representative. You are invited to join because the expedition needs a salty adventurer experienced in arms.

Comment:
Despite the fact that this adventure has a small number of rooms, uniform monsters (orcs), and a reduced command list, it is a real treat to play. A consistent theme is developed and adhered to throughout. This is not a hack-and-slash adventure but a realistic treatment of the rescue theme. It plays more realistically then most Eamon adventures. The player is an actor in the flow of events rather than the agent who determines everything that happens. Thus, the adventure can be undertaken by an inexperienced character as well as an experienced one with almost equal chances of success. The experienced player must always bear in mind the ultimate purpose of the foray and sublimate the usual Eamon instincts to plunder and kill that he has probably nurtured through his previous adventuring.

The descriptions are well done and lend a feeling of action to the adventure. It’s almost a pleasure to go astray occasionally to see how well the author has covered all the bases. Your com[anions offer comments which add an extra touch of realism and imbue them with a personality not usually accorded to non-player characters. You may check their health, inventory the items they are carrying, or request objects from them. They each have special skills and the ability to switch weapons in combat. For example, Galehir carries spare bowstrings in case one should break in combat.

The adventure can be displayed in either 40 or 80 columns and is compatible with several 80-column cards, Videx or Apple //e compatible. There is a fast start feature which loads the initial status of variables and parameters in much the same way as restoring a saved game. This significantly reduces start-up time. The NOTES-COMMENTS-HINTS files discusses some of the specially programming and how it is designed. In addition this file lists adventure hints in chronological order so that they player can get help without revealing more the adventure then necessary.

Overall it is an excellent adventure with several innovations which greatly improve playability. The MAIN PGM (similar to that of Thror’s Ring) marks a radical departure from the standard one and warrants some study by prospective Eamon adventure designers.

Uses the AD&D ruleset. is set in Forgotten realms where Baldur's Gate is a location. This game begins the Baldur's Gate series. Players can create and name Human, Elf, Dwarf, Half-Elf, Halfling, and Gnome characters of either gender of the Fighter, Mage, Thief, Cleric, Ranger, Druid, or Paladin classes. Some classes can engage in sorcery according to the AD&D ruleset. Players can also dual-class or multi-class according the AD&D ruleset. In a 1-player game, the player controls an entire party, in multiplayer games, each player can control one or more characters (or none at all). Players must cooperate, there is no competitive options in the game. There are multiple ways for a character to summon underlings for temporary help. Characters must sleep or suffer the effects of fatigued. Characters can also become poisoned, confused, charmed, enfeebled, paralyzed, turned to stone, encumbered, impaired, or drunk if the character does avoid situations that lead to such effects. The detail of the fantasy world this game takes place in seems to qualify it as belonging to the high fantasy genre. Characters can use bows, crossbows, slings, knives, swords, axes, bludgeons, pole arms, whips, or fight unarmed (non-lethal). A vast number of items can be aquired from stashes in the world, on defeated foes, or purchased from shops or individuals. The AI of the player's characters can be programmed in a scriptable language. But this is highly optional as adequate AIs are provided or the player can pause constantly to direct everybody with point-n-click commands; then unpause for as long as those commands are helpfully being executed. (Documentation for Scripting can be found on the 1st CD. Users have created AIs that can be found online and loaded into an existing game). Many NPC can be joined to the party and left to retrieve later. Some will leave if they are unhappy with the main characters actions. Evil people prefer the main character to do evil, good characters prefer good. Some NPC have their on purposes for joining and will stay of leave depending on the changing conditions matching their goals or not. The experience system follows the AD&D ruleset. This includes XP awarded for defeating enemies and for completing quests (which are documented on-the-fly in an automated journal that also records some plot information). The XP required to level up are preset according the the AD&D ruleset. When leveling up (at the players initiation, once the require XP are collected), skill points are awarded that can be distributed to a subset of skills available to the character's class (not all AD&D skills are included in this game). Several small village/towns can be visited and Baldur's Gate is a massive 10+ levels (not counting interiors that include multistory buildings) of civilization that approaches the definition of a city. Several large keeps make up whole levels (again not counting interiors that include multistory buildings). Several tall towers can be explored. Many multilevel mines and dungeons can or must be explored. Developers comments can be read on some tombstones a cemetery.
Bauldur's Gate has a sewer system as a location.
. Books, scrolls, and documents in the game offer extraneous details about the Forgotten Realms and Bauldur's Gate area, plot background, plot information, and character advancement training (rare). This game is available in a 5 CD set (original), 3 CD set, or on a single DVD to save on disc swapping. The game can be configured to run from the various CD or have them installed to hard drive per CD. But, upon running the game will require CD 1 to be in the drive for copy egest.
The plot shares some similarities to events in the Book of The Watchers (from the Book of Enoch, an apocryphal Jewish writing). In Baldur's Gate, an unearthly being came to the earthly realm and copulated with mortal females. The children of these unions have unusual and advanced traits and eventual fight with and kill each other. In the book of the watchers, unearthly beings came to the earth and copulated with mortal females. The children of these unions are giants and eventually fight with and kill each other.
Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight  LucasArts1997

[English WIP]
While it aimed to be better than the first Dark Forces, with varied weaponry, lightsaber, force powers, and full 3D control, it loses all its virtues because of mediocre levels, predictable foes and boring design. Not to mention the shorts and the acting skills of the actors. And to top it gives failures constantly, both graphics and game. A pity, because the multiplayer makes it clear how entertaining the game can be with worthy opponents.

Drakan: The Ancients' Gates  Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (Surreal Software)2002In the ancient, decaying world of Drakan, the immortal Spirit Dragons are being held captive. With an immersive story line, stunning graphics, and intense battles, Drakan: The Ancients' Gates places you within a world of magical creatures, mysterious lands, and courageous conquests.***missing images: title and actual in-game screens (both on foot, riding arokh, possibly when fighting with bow and magic)***GTIN:
711719342229
Product ID:
SCES-50006
***Unlike its predecessor, "Drakan 2" had actual role-playing elements thrown in, though only limited to gaining experience and selecting which of the three skills (melee, ranged or magic) you increased with time. This was refreshing, since you couldn't max her out on everything (not even two of 'em), so it paid to pick out one as your strongest skill and the others as nice backup plans :)

The game felt annoyingly claustrophobic to me compared to the previous game which had vast-ish locales with plenty of room to walk in any direction. With Drakan 2 this was changed for tighter areas that seemed to stop too soon in any direction for my liking. Even when flying with Arokh the areas were awfully tight and you had to contend with the other dragons for space in your aerial battles. Only in few places did you have sufficient room, compared to the previous game where you pretty much always had plenty of room (except maybe when you were flying in the tunnels, but that's a given). In Drakan 2 you're flying over "vast" deserts and whatnot, yet you have almost as much space as you had in some subterranean caverns in the previous game.

The joy of seeing, and playing as, Rynn and Arokh again were enough for me when I first played this game (actually years after it was quietly released), but the game is sadly not particularly outstanding despite being the successor of the best dragonriding game I've ever played (yet).***In the ancient, decaying world of Drakan, the immortal Spirit Dragons are held captive, as a fearsome alien race called the Desert Lords overrun the land. Rynn and Arokh return in this sequel to critially acclaimed Drakan: Order of the Flame to awaken the ancient Dragons of The Order and free the land from its oppressors.

Embarking on an enchanted journey through eight vast, foreign environments, Rynn and Arokh utilize magic spells, resourcefulness and more that 50 powerful weapons in their quest to save civilization. With an immersive storyline, stunning graphics and intense battles, Drakan: The Ancients' Gates places you within a world of magical creatures, mysterious lands and courageous conquests!

* Never play the same game twice: Once you finish your adventure, go back and try the experience again, forging your character and thereby a new tale with unexpected twists and turns, new skills, powers, influences, allies and enemies.***Relesed September 14, 2004. Follow one character from birth to death, every action you take affects your characters's stats but also their physical appearance. Get a tan or sunburn, pump your muscles or grow fat, get tattoos, get scars, build your rep. Play again for a totally different character and experience. An interesting note about this game, since no two characters are ever exactly alike or even a single characters the same from moment to moment, there are a increasing number of tricks, artful dodges, cheats, etc, for this game that will not work for everyone every time.

[Lionhead]***"Now let's talk about the opening of the story, as I said, you can be a man or a woman, the story starts in classic computer game style. It's all about this regal bird, flying through this amazing and incredible landscape, through down valleys, over mountaintops, through city streets, the bird just comes to rest on the top of this tower. The camera follows the dump down, it comes down, the crap lands on this kid's head - that's you. Anyway, that's the style of the game. You're nobody, you're nothing, you live in the sewers, everybody, you know, just disregards you. Your destiny is to be a truly great hero." --Molyneux at X06

Fable: The Lost Chapters Microsoft (Lionhead Studios;Big Blue Box Studios)2005This was an expanded re-release of [game=#155049]Fable[/game].

And according to Wikipedia, the changes were as follows:
* Five new silver keys, and a few more silver key chests.
* Two new suits of armor — the "Fire Assassin" suit, which is very similar to the normal assassin suit but with a red cloth and designs, and the armor of Archon, which is a shinier and stronger version of the standard plate armor in the game.
* A new torso armor — The hooded guild apprentice shirt.
* Two new offensive spells — "Divine Fury" and "Infernal Wrath"; area of effect spells which deal large amounts of damage to opponents in the player's radius.(some spells look slightly different, such as Assassin's Rush now bearing a blue after-effect instead of a white one).
* Briar Rose; a hero who was almost entirely scrapped from the original release, is now included in several main quests and side quests.
* Scythe; another hero who was cut from the original game, is now a primary character in the new end game, and appears early in the game based on the player's actions.
* Jack of Blades; the main antagonist, has a deeper, more demonic-sounding voice as opposed to his original roguish tone, and he has a more explored background.
* Jack of Blades transforms into a dragon, the new final boss.
* Several new demon doors.
* The Northern Wastes, which were cut from the original release, are back. There are about six new locations there, which contain a new town, a demon door, some silver key chests, and an extension of the story.
* The Darkwood Bordello, an area cut from the Darkwood portion of the game. Finding it allows access to a couple of sidequests, a new demon door, behind which is the "Pimp Hat", and of course, the bordello itself. The player has the option of owning the bordello, and making lots of money (for some 'evil' points), or making it a women's refuge (for 'holy' points).
* Several new weapons, including a sword called Avo's Tear, which acts as an opposite to the Sword of Aeons. Avo's Tear can only be acquired by a good character after destroying the Sword of Aeons in what was the original end of the game. The other weapons are: The Bereaver, The Avenger and Orkon's Club.
* The player may now solve the mystery surrounding the death of Lady Grey's sister.
* The player can now become the Mayor of Bowerstone.
* Several new sidequests and minigames.
* New monsters — Ice Trolls, Summoners, Wraiths, and Frost Balverines.
* New actions — The player may now do several new dances, like the Cossack dance and air guitar.
* The Sword of Aeons has had a downgrade to make the new game elements harder yet still remains one of the strongest weapons in the game. (Because of its speed as a light weapon, it can hit much faster as a heavy weapon.) The sword has a damage rate of 230, whereas in the original Fable it had 550.
* The Battle Charge spell no longer affects non-hostile and non-targeted characters.
* Demon Doors on the mini-map are purple instead of red to eliminate confusion between enemies.
* Flourish-charged weapons now glow purple instead of fiery to eliminate confusion of fire-augmented weapons.
* Jack of Blades' mask is no longer a trophy, but a quest item. Depending on the second ending that the player chooses, the mask can either be worn or destroyed. (Once worn, it can never be removed)
* After Jack of Blades is defeated the first time, the Hero Guild is rebuilt and completely accessible.
* Ripples in water are now more continuous instead of "pulses" and have a slightly different look.
* Timers turn red when there are only ten seconds left.
* You can find Whisper at the Oakvale Tavern after the Arena if you choose not to kill her.
* There is now an Oracle in the game which can be asked questions. Once the player reaches the Oracle, it can tell them what has happened to the other characters in the game, such as Whisper and the Hero's sister Theresa, which increases the impact of some of his earlier decisions. It can also talk to the Hero about a number of other topics, including information about Albion's past and where certain monsters come from, the which adds much more lore to the game.
* Bug fixes.
***Follow one character from birth to death, every action you take affects your charactor's stats but also their physical appearence. Get a tan or sunburn, pump your mussles or grow fat, get tattoos, aquire scars, build your rep. Play again for a totally different character and experience. PC version has enhancements and extras not included in the Xbox version.

[49]***Unlock doors of legend on your journey through Faxanadu.
You are the elves' last hope. Outside the town walls lurk monsters with the power to destroy anything in their path. Inside the walls, water and time are running out. Soon the ancient elf town of Eolis will vanish into eternity.
Only you can save Eolis. No one else dares to venture beyond the walls, onto the World Tree, where towns and fortresses precariously await the whims of fate at the hands of the Evil.
You are searching for the water source and for an antidote to the poison that makes the water undrinkable. To find them you'll need gold and food and magic, speed with a sword...and luck.
Every town holds a new mystery, every fortress a new danger. Merchants will sell you magic and valuable tools, but it's up to you to figure out what you need. Long, secret mantras help you slip through the mists, but will you survive the next challenge?
This is Faxanadu, the legend, the adventure-the incredible journey on the World Tree.***
[52]***Faxanadu is a special reworked version of the original Xanadu game for Japanese homecomputers. It's actually quite a different game and resembles Zelda II quite a lot. Faxanadu was the third game of the "Dragon Slayer" game series appearing on the Famicom and it was by far the best one so far, beating Legacy of the Wizard and Romancia in terms of fair gameplay. Faxanadu is relatively linear and not as unforgiving as the former titles. I also liked the graphics. They lacked a bit in colors, but are detailed and quite atmospheric.***
