* Nvidia 6600 GT or ATI Radeon 9800 video card***UFO: Afterlight is a mixture of squad based tactical action and global strategy with the gamer controlling the actions of elite ground troops, and the running and construction of an intricate network of interlinking bases while collecting resources.

UFO: Afterlight takes us to Mars, where a human colony has been built with the help of the Reticulans not long before the events of [game=#155167]UFO: Aftershock[/game] took place. Mars base is self-sustainable and provides all the necessities for survival of humans on a foreign planet, mainly breathable air, water and food. Although the people inhabiting this colony have the technologies and knowledge required for their further development, basic survival is their major concern. Their only activity is the research of a nearby excavation site, which proves the existence of an ancient intelligent and highly developed alien civilization.

The player will enter the game when the research drastically affects all Mars inhabitants. New and unexpected enemies appear in the form of robots, built centuries ago by the unknown aliens for their protection, whose purpose is to eliminate any traces of other civilizations on Mars.

Humans on Mars now have a good reason for their own development, even though not knowing yet that the planetary self-defense mechanism might not be the worst awaiting them, and that their unintentional opening of hyperspace gates will bring an even bigger enemy right to their door. After all attempts to contact the Earth Laputa fail, the colonists are left with no other choice than to fight the enemies with their own means, or be annihilated.

Key Features

General
* combination of global strategy and tactical missions
* completely new story built on the events from UFO: Aftershock
* large number of new technologies, weapons and equipment to develop
* completely new environments on a different planet than Earth
* highly replayable game because of the player's key decisions on diplomacy and research

* diplomacy has strong influence on the game story
* research enables terraforming of the planet in later stages of the game
* improved and transparent construction and building management
* friendly interface and easy orientation in the game, useful information available at time and place where needed

Tactics
* advanced tactical part of the game with the possibility to enter buildings, thermo visions and more
* player may use different height and destructible elements of environment to his advantage
* tactical missions controlled by intelligent scripts guarantee reasonable behavior of enemies
* authentic physical model
* player must adapt his tactics during the game as the enemies change and grow stronger, hardly two missions are the same
* aliens and robots in your team
* hostile environment requiring the use of different types of spacesuits
* opportunity to mind-control your enemies and use psionic abilities
[Cenega]***UFO: Afterlight belongs to the UFO series - [game=#155168]UFO: Aftermath[/game] and [game=#155167]UFO: Aftershock[/game], released in 2003 and 2005 respectively, and originally inspired by the X-COM series. As well as X-COM and our previous UFO editions it consists of two related approaches - global strategy and small-squad tactics are merged together with an interesting story.

Ultima IX: Ascension  Origin;Electronic Arts (Origin)1999Ultima IX is best enjoyed following a neurolyser flash to forget the existance of every other game in the Ultima series (except maybe the Runes sub-series). And a second neurolyser flash afterwards to forget the bugs.***The tag note now claims this is conclusion to the UW series, but isn't this rather a conclusion to the Age of Armageddon sub-series? In all regards this seems unrelated to UW.***The Dragon Edition was a collectors pack containing the 2 Game CDs plus The [game=Ultima Collection]Ultima Collection[/game] CD (the 1st 8 Ultimas), 8 virtue cards, an Ankh pendant, an Ascension poster, a cloth map, a leather Game Journal, a leather Book of Magic (animals were sacrificed for this entertainment), a certification from Lord British, and an Ultima Collection reference card. Believe it or not, this is intended to be the finale of the Ultima series. Officially, the 3rd game of the Age of Armageddon trilogy which is the 3rd age, and the 3rd game of Ultima Underworld series. Fans who have been paying close attention would have noted some requirements in prophecy doled out in the previous games. Players will not find the vast majority of these prophecies fulfilled in this game. It is not a spoiler to say ascendancy occurs, the game makes it obvious in title, box art, and in-game, from the very beginning. The Ultima universe is a different one from ours where the protagonist is from Earth. The protagonist, sort of, fulfills his roles in this game that were set when Lord British chose him in Ultima IV to become the Avatar. It is blatently shown that
the Guarding
is indestructible which had been alluded to in the earlier games. Pirates play an important role in the main plot and several side-quests and plots. But, officially, it is set in the Ultima universe and ends the Age of Armageddon. The setting is consistent with a late medieval-theme. Cannons, machines, weapons, ship technology and the artwork in the game place it on the cusp of a Renaissance-theme; but does not quite qualify. Archery of a sort occurs. This game was originally designed for Voodoo Graphics/3Dfx cards, which utilized the Glide3D API. The released game also contained various options to use DirectX technologies. The Direct3D option was barely passable. Official patches brought the requirement of DirectX 6. An unofficial patch from members of the development team require DirectX 7. There are people being held prisoner,
the Avatar
at one point. The ever present Rule Britannia music accompanies Lord British's castle. Widescreen is not officially supported but the config file allows the horizontal and vertical resolution to be manually specified. So if the provided numbers match a resolution supported by your card and monitor, it works. Although to wide an aspect will cause controls for inventory and books to be off-screen. It supports vertical screen in this way also. It does not support alternate projections (anamorphic), so if your monitor projects the given mode anamorphicly, the image will be distorted the same.
[Zerothis]***The last of the legendary Ultima series in 3D! Unfortunately, it was plagued with bugs, rendering it almost unplayable.

2000-09-22 - re-release by Infogrames
2001 another re-release by Infogrames***Although Unreal was great back in the days it first came out, it hasn't fared well against the ravages of time. It's difficult to get running on modern Windows operating systems (with hardware 3D acceleration, software rendering works fine) and when you do, it's a terrible realization that it doesn't look as great as you remember. Something 3D games are perhaps only now managing to accomplish (if even now), a level of detail that can survive for ages like 2D graphics reached long ago.

The difficulty setting is a bit curious as it adjusts the dodge-firing ratio, so the easiest difficulty may actually be the hardest since the enemies dodge a _lot_, while at hardest they practically just stand there and shoot at you a never ending stream of bullets/rockets/whatever. So, if you're poor shot, go for harder difficulties, if you're poor dodger, go for easy. The normal difficulty and those near it balance it out so it may be harder or easier depending on your skill and playstyle.***Great FP-Shooter, network-playing, Missiondisc available

Unstoppable Gorg Futuremark Games Studio2012Get ready to experience a revolution in tower defense that will send you spinning. Unstoppable Gorg challenges you to defend the solar system from fearsome aliens by sending satellites into orbit. Unlike other tower defense games, in Unstoppable Gorg you can move your towers by rotating the orbits that surround planets, moons and space stations.

Unstoppable Gorg is a lovingly crafted homage to vintage sci-fi films from the 1950s. Flying saucers, rubbery aliens, dodgy effects, it's got it all. The game's story scenes were shot on film using models, miniatures and live action actors and then edited together with genuine archive footage to create a classic sci-fi experience that is out of this world.

Key Features:
* Take on the Gorg in more than 40 challenging levels of revolutionary tower defense action.
* Satellites in orbit replace the towers and grid layout used in other tower defense games.
* Move your satellites around their orbits to create the best defense for each wave.
* Experience a thrilling story inspired by the classic sci-fi films of the 1950s.
* Unlock Steam achievements and earn your place on the leaderboards.

X Rebirth Deep Silver (Egosoft)2013At least they changed the mission panel! And the messages have tags! :D

Now its a very playable game, easier to control, with an average difficult curve (not as stepped as previous games), and even prettier than before (specially planets, that feel enormous and look mesmerizing) Also, space highways and station/ship interiors are some of the new neat additions that makes it feel alive.

I miss the complexity of weapons and station systems, but its a little trade-off in comparation with the major improvements.

7 of 10******In the distant future, the X universe faces a period of profound and irrevocable change. While the universe stumbles towards an uncertain future, countless adventures await as new enemies rise in search of power. The fate of the universe rests in the hands of the player...

8 de 10***They're back...only this time the heinous aliens are out to destroy Earth and rule the new frontier. As X-COM commander, it's your sole duty to protect humanity and the prized mining operations in outer space. You must strategically equip your X-COM fighters, amass a formidable arsenal and then fulfill your mandate by going head-to-head with the devious element. The action is fast. And the opposing forces are wicked. But if you are smart, diligent and quick, you will prevail in a masterfully fought campaign to save our planet from perilous collapse.

* Wreak complete destruction in an addictive and seamless combination of combat action and strategy.
* Mastermind your plan by purchasing equipment, hiring pilots and researching new technologies.

X³: Albion Prelude  Egosoft2011As the expansion of X3: Terran Conflict, it improves the merge between war, market and diplomatic systems, making factions weaker if its economy becomes stagnant or making easier to get the help of the enemy of your enemy, and many other new ways to interact with the different species. Also includes a lot of new items, ships, etc...
Sadly, the game is still very slow and frustrating because not only the mission system (almost the same, but with more chained missions that "hide" this radical flaw), but because the uncareness of the game for the player when you finish the tutorial (its difficult to encounter feasible missions or even something relevant to do)

X³: Reunion  Deep Silver (Egosoft)2005A game about the vastness of the space in a very big universe filled with all kinds of stuff (as ships, stations, asteroids...) and comprising a lot of different ways to play the game (militar, merchant, raider, police, transporter, salvager...) Its complexity and freedom are almost infinite, and has very clever features as speeding the time (for long travels) and very well-crafted reputation and market systems.

But there are 3 big issues with the game:
-The interface and controls are straight horrendous, forcing to employ the auto-pilot more than it should.
-The mission panel is very spartan and doesn´t records any indication of a possible mission (only points at already signed contracts, not featuring indications recieved in messages)
-Theres only 1 message log (important and worth-saving messages merge with a gigantic clutter of mundane conversations and tips)
These 3 problems make the in-game progress very difficult and immensely slow, and the game very boring/frustrating to play.

3 of 10***Greatest flaw in this that I see is that there's no task tracker. You're forced to remember and make notes yourself of what you agree to do and what others tell you to do, though you can review the message log as you like, it's hardly intuitive. This is especially bad considering the game's a sandbox.***Latest version: 2.5 (as of 2007)***Minimum:

X³: Terran Conflict  Deep Silver (Egosoft)2008As a expansion/remake of X3: Reunion, improves a lot its interface and controls (now its a little complex but very user-friendly) and adds a few interesting campaigns (the previous game was heavily war-oriented in gameplay) Also, the graphics are nicer.
Nevertheless, it still features clunky message and mission systems, making it only a little better than the original game.

4 of 10***X³: Terran Conflict is a brand new, stand-alone game set in the universe of X³. It is the culmination of the X trilogy, with a grand finale that takes us all the way back to Earth's own solar system. Gamers can take on the roles of different characters in the X universe, or of a Terran military pilot, and experience a multitude of stories in the largest X universe ever featured - for X³: Terran Conflict will offer more missions than any other X game before. Meanwhile, X³: Terran Conflict will pose questions such as: How has Earth changed in all these years? And how will relations between Earth and its counterparts in the X universe develop?
