Star Wolves  1C Company (X-bow Software)2005Description

Star Wolves is a 3D space RPG with deep strategy and tactical elements. The game thrusts players into a world of freelance space hunters in the XXI-XXII Century A.D. during a time of political crisis for the all-powerful Empire and the three mega-corporations that control all the known worlds. Corruption prospers planet-side and only space can give a man his freedom, but not without a cost: space is not a safe place anymore. Human space pirates, rogue AI computers that rebelled against humanity and Empire patrol ships roam space in search of easy prey.

Players begin the game as a bounty hunter with little more than an old, run-down space fighter and a dream, but as they advance in the game and prosper, their piloting and battle skills improve, allowing access to more advance spacecraft. Players can control a party of up to six bounty hunters, each possessing different skills, abilities and personality. Team tactics give players vast opportunities in battles when shear fire power isn't enough. Tactical ruses, planning and executing ambushes or deploying spaceships' special abilities provide cunning commanders the ability to crush enemies according to their style of play.

Features

* Spectacular 3D real-time battle system
* Original blend of tactical and action game play
* Variety of missions and mission-types including stealth, hit and run and assault missions
* Non-linear storyline and game play
* Secondary and secret quests along with primary missions
* Over 25 space fighters
* Dozens of energy and missile weapons
* Over 40 missions
* A choice of eight game characters, both male and female, to form your party
* Original RPG system

The Empire, just as before, continues to fight against the Aliens. As a rule armadas of battleships aren't used in such conflicts. Small maneuverable squadrons that can attack and retreat quickly are better suited for this type of war. This means that the famous Star Wolves team is back in action!

StarCraft  Blizzard Entertainment1998In the distant future, the newly formed Terran Dominion faces the arrival of two hostile alien races: the savage Zerg and the enigmatic Protoss. Gather resources and expand your forces to lead them to victory. The only allies are enemies. The only choice is war.***For 1-8 players, with teams or in FFA. Cross-platform play with Mac.***Latest version: 1.16 (as of 2008-11-27)***An incredible RTS that requires both brains and speed. Not trackball- or trackpad-friendly. Though the graphics are rather primitive by today's standards, that's only because this game is relatively old.

It features three different playable races, each of which requires different strategies for maximum effectiveness. Play as the versatile Terran colonists, the voracious Zerg xenomorphs, or the enigmatic, psionically gifted Protoss (my personal favorite).

The game also includes a map editing program for the unique SCM and SCX map format, enabling a patient user to craft new maps and scenarios. Some of the features take some getting used to, but FAQs are available at [[link:http://www.blizzard.com/starcraft]].

Starlancer Microsoft (Digital Anvil)2000According to [game=#161996]Freelancer[/game]'s intro, the war depicted in Starlancer lasted for 100 years.***STARLANCER combines the action of first-person space combat with the drama and intrigue of a classic air combat movie. Countries from around the world including the United States, China, Russia and Great Britain have formed strategic alliances and now battle for control of Earth, Mars and other planets across the solar system. As part of a newly formed, ragtag aviation unit, the 45th Volunteers Squadron, players must prove themselves and earn the respect of their peers.

Key Features Include:

* Stunning 3-D graphics and effects. StarLancer will provide a level of graphic details and effects not currently found in space combat games with particle effects, dramatic source lighting and realistic ship destruction. More than 80 types of spacecraft are rendered in extraordinary 3-D detail throughout the game.

* Dynamic mission structure. StarLancer missions are designed to challenge players, create a wide variety of gameplay and enhance the story lines. Players fly in over 25 gripping missions that range from escorting marine boarding ships to free POWs to leading an assault on space stations built right into an asteroid field.

* Immersive story line. StarLancer features a dramatic story based on the dynamic history of 20th century warfare. To enhance the story, StarLancer includes over 25 minutes of Hollywood-quality full-motion computer-generated cinematics, over 250 unique pilot animations and 36 custom-composed original music scores.

* Living universe. Rather than the standard environment in current space combat games with space being fairly empty beyond the enemy fighters, the universe in StarLancer feels alive and will be more interesting for players to participate in. Neutral craft can be seen going about their business by performing functions such as unloading freighters or escorting convoys.

* Multiplayer capabilities. Players can work together cooperatively through the entire campaign with up to 4 players or dogfight in 6 different deathmatch modes with up to 8 players via LAN or the MSN Gaming Zone (http://www.zone.com).

* State-of-the-art space flight engine. Whether players are engaged in a dogfight with swarming enemies or escorting a torpedo run on a massive capital ship, the StarLancer 3-D engine provides unparalleled fluidity in gameplay with balanced, consistent frame rates.

* Interactive ship environments. Players will be able to navigate key parts of their capital ship with immersive 3-D walkabout environments. Players will have their own interactive bunkroom with a locker for medals, CD player, simulator pod for flight practice and even a fish tank.

* Lethal spacecraft and weaponry. Players may choose from more than a dozen ships using a unique 3-D drag-and-drop interface. They can arm their ships with more than 20 weapons, including nova cannons, pulse lasers, collapser guns and jackhammer missiles.

* Experienced developers. StarLancer is being developed by Erin and Chris Roberts who are widely credited as the inventors of the space combat genre with their tremendously popular Wing Commander and Privateer series of games.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas Ubisoft (Ubisoft Toronto)2018 labelminimizeminimize
Starscape Moonpod2003real-time combat - some nodes are devoid of enemy presence (especially after you've destroyed them all), so this is somewhat inaccurate, but (more) enemies can warp in at any time (sort of), so it's sufficient.***If you like arcade shooters and don't mind spending half of your time mining asteroids for minerals, you might actually like this. However, arcade shooter fans will be more at home with this than most others as the game starts to get quite hectic towards the end. Maintaining mineral reserves, protecting the mobile spacestation, and repairing your ship and the station even during the fights will get quite common tasks. Asteroid mining is more required by research and development of new ships and ship hardware than for repairs as some of the larger enemy ships actually leave some minerals or hardware to be used for repairs, often in sufficient numbers. The other part of the game is spent hunting the bigger ships, mostly mining vessels as their destruction detracts the enemy's ability to produce more units within each zone, and to find grid information for important locations not normally shown in the grid map. The game world is split into five zones, each larger than the last, which you can explore in any order you wish but jumping more than one zone will spell certain doom as you need the technology from the previous ones to survive (and unlock the more powerful hardware). The grid and zone maps work in some semi-turn-based fashion, with time passing when you move or when you hit the skip time button. Time also passes freely when inside a grid node, where the game runs in real-time - the enemy continues to produce new units, harvest other grid nodes, and move forces around, even bringing reinforcements occasionally in while you spend your time there. Overall it's a nice game, but towards the end, especially the final boss, you start wishing you hadn't touched the game in the first place - unless you have masochistic tendencies with video games.***Minimum:

Sword of the Stars is a breakthrough 4X Strategy game brought to you by the core team behind the highly acclaimed title, Homeworld: Cataclysm. Sword of the Stars returns gamers to the action-packed roots of the 4X genre with some new twists, including a 3D starmap and real-time combat resolution in a 3D environment!

Playing as one of 4 unique races, gamers will explore planets, research new technologies and create empires in a hostile universe where weakness means extinction and only the strongest will survive. Sword of the Stars provides quick, intuitive play, state-of-the-art graphics and tactical combat that make the game instantly involving and rewardingly fun.

FEATURES

* 4 distinct races - Human, Hiver, Tarkas and Liir - each with their own technology advantages and disadvantages.
* A powerful state of the art engine delivers breathtaking graphics and robust gameplay.
* Each race has a unique mode of transport between star systems, creating very different styles of play, depending on what race you choose to control.
* Slider bar controls and simplified interface to avoid the confusion of other games without sacrificing depth of gameplay.

* New technology reflected in detailed ship models, weapons and combat effects. Over 40 weapons from six different weapon classes, in various size classes, from point defence, turrets, to massive spinal mounts!
* Players can design and build ships from three size classes - Destroyer, Cruiser, and Dreadnought - by mixing and matching ship sections (command, mission, and engines), then outfitting them with armour and weapons to suit their preference.
* Up to 8 players can play against the AI and one another over LAN or online.
* Choose from a variety of scenario campaigns to play alone or with friends, each adding more colour and depth to the Sword of the Stars universe.

7 de 10***A deadly plague ravages your world. Your last hope: a legendary alien facility dug deep into the Feldspar Mountains...a massive Pit, built by the ancient Suul'ka.

If 'The Pit' really exists, there might be something left. Something that will give your doctors a fighting chance at the cure.

All you know for sure is that every expedition into those mountains has failed to return...

And nothing sows death like the Suul'ka.

Sword of the Stars: The Pit is a fun, fast, light-hearted action RPG, in the tradition of Rogue and other old school dungeon-diving games.

The game will include the following features on release:

* 3 Characters to choose from...Marine, Pilot and Engineer!
* Go up levels and improve your skills as you try and find a way to survive the depths.
* 30 Levels of ancient evil science between you and the cure!
* Dozens of enemies drawn from the SotSverse!
* Over 30 weapons and armors with a variety of special effects including flamethrowers, rocket launchers, plasma cannons and powered Brawler armor!
* Randomized augmentation effects to make each game unique
* Crafting lets you make special items from bits and pieces of your enemies.
* Over 60 items to discover, ranging from the familiar to the ancient exotic tech.
* Dozens of room types containing a host of exotic devices to help and hinder the player
* Many fiendish ways to die including poisoning, disease, traps, radiation, starvation and of course...MONSTERS.

Like System Shock 1, there will be persistent levels (i.e., drop an item on one level, and you could go back later to retrieve it), gameplay elements like logs, inventory, skills, persistent world, leaning, hacking, RPG elements, multiple weapons and enemies, and a compelling storyline. Unlike most other first person shooters, the purpose of System Shock was not to kill everything in sight; nor was it a "find the key to move onto the next level" game. The plot was always present, but not so confining as in traditional shooters—there was almost always more than one task to accomplish. Levels were realistically designed and had logical reasons behind them. It is the principle of System Shock 2 to continue this game design."
