Personal review

Splatterhouse is a straightforward side-scroller with the premise being that you (Rick, I think your name is) have been possessed by the spirit of an ancient (Mayan, maybe?) mask that will give you the strength to defeat various forces of darkness and rescue your (of course helpless) female counterpart from the "Splatterhouse." What makes this game interesting is the fantastic quality of ambience it manages to create, with excellent sound and graphics creating a truly scary arcade game. Only Uninvited and Silent Hill match Splatterhouse for creepiness. It also has some choice of paths to take, which adds replayability. A fun game with inventive enemies and ways to splatter them.
