Alien Logic Musicbank1995You are on the world of Jorune, a colony whose communications with Earth has been cut off for 3500 years. The residents of your village have been taken by the evil Red Shantha, and you alone have survived with the help of another Shantha and some serendipitous, if not exactly appealing, events. During the course of this game, you will attempt to increase your use of Isho (magic), gain knowledge of Warpworld, discover the location of the Red Shantha, defeat him and rescue your fellow villagers. In addition to your main quest, there are also several mini quests to complete. While the game is somewhat non-linear, and the completion of all quests are not required to achieve your final goal, the fulfillment of these quests usually improves your abilities or gives you access to something you need.
As the game opens, you are in the Mountain Crown of Tan-Iricid, home of alien creatures known as the Thriddle. You are given some information, allowed to ask some questions, and sent on your way to the large human settlement of Ardoth to begin your adventure.

Once in Ardoth, you'll visit all the places in town, equip yourself with a laser cutting kit, then set out to explore: searching for Shanthic Ruins, crystals, limilates (plants with special properties), and (of course) monsters. Along the way, you'll have the chance to increase your power, skills, and knowledge so that you will be able to rescue the townspeople. As part of your journeys, you will discover floating islands in the clouds, known as skyrealms, explore the depths of ancient ruins where no human has ever been, discover plots that threaten the realm, and learn enthralling histories of the various races. It is a fascinating journey.

Note: Visit the Thriddle often, they will give you locations of Shanthic sites and guide (railroad?) you on some of the quests.

American McGee's Alice  Electronic Arts (Rogue Entertainment)2000Lewis Carroll's 19th-century fantasy has been reinvented many times, most famously by Walt Disney. And now American McGee, one of the designers behind the Quake and Doom series, issues his addition to the Looking Glass legends with American McGee's Alice. Players take on the role of a wiser, more industrious heroine who sets out in this third-person 3-D action game to free Wonderland from the tyranny of the Queen of Hearts. Alice will confront a host of weird creatures in surreal settings and solve numerous puzzles through more than 15 levels of gameplay.***stock sounds — at least one is heard in an early surreal level where a huge door frame passes around the level (it does this pass repeatedly), the sound is played during the pass.***May (quite likely actually) fail to start up on XP and newer operating systems (as it does for me), but works fine after you use a No-CD crack. When Alice responds to a mysterious summons to return to Wonderland, the place is barely recognisable. Something has gone very wrong. Undaunted by the diseased atmosphere, confusion and mortal danger that surrounds her, Alice commits to set it right. Embark on a twisted journey to save a wonderland gone bad... but be warned if you're gonna chase this rabbit - you'd best go rmed...

* Stunning third-person, 3D action on an enhanced version of Quake III technlogy.
* A living breathing Wonderland that is as deadly as it's inhabitants.
* Twisted renditions of characters from the original Alice Adventures.
* Defend yourself with a collection of the most deadly toys ever imagined.
* Solve devious puzzles and labyrinthine mazes.
* Battle sadistic card guards, demonic fire imps, ravenous jabberspawn and many more.
* Hugely atmospheric score composed specifically for the game by Chris Vrenna founder member of the Nine Inch Nails.

Black & White  Electronic Arts (Lionhead Studios)2001In a perfect world, people wouldn't need gods. But perfect worlds can't exist and sooner or later someone, in trouble, desperate, will pray to the heavens. This is what happens in the beginning of Black & White.

Your new tribe bow before you in awe, and from this moment your prayer power starts to grow. As you carry out godly acts, the belief in you rises and more and more people are convinced that worshipping you in the way forward. But you can be good or evil. You may choose to rule the world as you wish.

As you grow in power, you acquire a Creature, a wondrous being capable of doing anything you can do. Capable of learning and being trained and capable of making his own decisions. The people of Eden, whether they believe in you or not, can't failed to be impressed by this beast, and more are swayed to your cause through their admiration of the Creature and the god that owns him.

But on other lands there are other gods. They have their own Creatures and their own followers. You must vie with them for power. You must use your Miracles, your Creature and your cunning to steal followers from these gods, and to do battle between the Creatures for supremacy.

The ultimate goal is the Creed. Elements of these live within each Creature, and he who controls the parts of the Creed can control the whole land of Eden.

You may do well. You may sway the minds of the tribes, but can you gather the parts of the Creed? Can you defeat the god of gods, the enemy of enemies? Can you defeat your Nemesis and rule over the whole world? That is a question only you, and only time will answer.***Latest version: 1.3 (as of ?)***Minimum:

Deus Ex  Eidos Interactive (Ion Storm)20002007-03-29 on Steam; GOTY edition (lang: eng)***This GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION of the smash hit Deus Ex features an all-new multiplayer mode and a new head-to-head deathmatch mode. Also included is a software development kit, so you'll be able to create both single and multiplayer missions from scratch, as well as modify existing ones.

The year is 2052 and the world is a dangerous and chaotic place. Terrorists operate openly - killing thousands; drugs, disease and pollution kill even more. The world's economies are close to collapse and the gap between the insanely wealthy and the desperately poor grows ever wider. Worst of all, an ages old conspiracy bent on world domination has decided that the time is right to emerge from the shadows and take control. No one believes they exist. No one but you.

* Real role-playing from an immersive 3D, first-person perspective. The game includes action, character interaction and problem solving.
* Realistic, recognizable locations. Many of the locations are built from actual blueprints of real places set in a near future scenario.
* A game filled with people rather than monsters. This creates empathy with the game characters and enhances the realism of the game world.
* Rich character development systems: Skills, augmentations, weapon and item selections and multiple solutions to problems ensure that no two players will end the game with similar characters.
* Multiple solutions to problems and character development choices ensure a varied game experience. Talk, fight or use skills to get past obstacles as the game adapts itself to your style of play.
* Strong storyline: Built on "real" conspiracy theories, current events and expected advancements in technology. If it's in the game, someone, somewhere believes it.
[Valve - GOTY edition]***If there's a thing that doesn't make sense, then it's the early sound cutoff bug this game has on my system. After trying solutions that work in every other game, I found on a forum that switching to sw rendering and back to D3D fixes it temporarily, and it did, even OpenGL rendering didn't have it. But both of those had some other issues I didn't want so I kept looking. Until I switched off vsync, and behold, sound clipping is gone. Fine and dandy with me, except it doesn't make slightest bit of sense. Video card setting that releases the framerate synchronization with screen refresh and allows the game to render more frames somehow allows the game to play the voice overs to the end. Other people have had similar issues with the game and all with different solutions, but those other solutions actually made sense.***Latest version: 1.112fm (as of 2001-04-28?), 1.4 for French

Version history:
* 1.05 (2009-01-19)***Eschalon: Book I is an old-school role-playing game that will take you across massive outdoor environments and deep into dozens of sprawling dungeons as you seek to uncover the mystery of who you are. It features a tile-built, turn-based game world where the result of absolutely every action is rolled, calculated or statistically determined. Hundreds of items and dozens of creatures await your discovery in this classically inspired RPG.

* A tile-built, turn-based game world where the result of absolutely every action is rolled, calculated or statistically determined. Strategy is paramount to success; careful skill management, equipment selection and magic usage will win your fights, not rapid button clicking. We are very pleased to say this is not another "action RPG".
* Hundreds of items and dozens of creatures await your discovery. A combination of randomly generated treasure and carefully hidden goodies means that no two games will play the exact same way.
* Unlimited character development style: Choose from 24 unique skills to make the character you want and 8 base attributes that affect your character's every action throughout the game. The game world does not scale or adjust itself to match anyone's play style, so the ease or difficulty of the game is directly related to how successful you are at developing your character.
* Combat plays out at your pace. Eschalon: Book I features a turn-based system that allows you to roll through combat as fast or slow you want...make it fast and furious, or analyze every option for maximum advantage.
* A non-linear storyline means that the game world is open to explore as you desire. Follow the storyline or don't...it's up to you. Just be careful where you go and who you choose to trust- the world of Eschalon can be a deadly place for an inexperienced adventurer.
* An epic adventure that you must face alone...a single-player RPG carefully designed to feel like the great old school RPGs of the past such as Ultima , Might & Magic , and Wizardry
[?]***

***The creator advertises that gameplay is, "the result of absolutely every action is rolled, calculated or statistically determined ", and it has a "combination of randomly generated treasure and carefully hidden goodies". The difficulty of the game is determined by the development of a character's skills and the adeptness of the player's using them. The story is not linear.

Requires a 1.8 GHz CPU, 256 MB RAM, and a 3D card.

Evil Islands  Fishtank Interactive;1C Company (Nival Interactive)2000Evil Islands is a perfectly balanced blend of mind-blowing hack-and-slash action with a need for cautious, crafty strategic planning. Moving freely between fabulously scenic and diverse game areas, players do battle in command of smaller, potent parties of heroes wielding both magical and fighting skills, in a truly interactive role-playing environment. The course of events unrolls with fatal speed to carry player away to dazzling adventure full of treacheries and guile snares. However, player's fate is in his or her own hands: every item gained on the plains and highlands of the realms of Evil can be taken to the hometown and reassembled to create unique enchanted armor and weapon or unparalleled magic spells.

Everything in the game is true 3D. Unique smooth 3D objects change and morphing technology, procedural texturing, and texture preprocessing allows a whole bunch of new opportunities. See characters' shoulders grow right in the course of the game as their skills develop; admire soft shadows cast by trees and mountains; gape at wounds and grazes as they appear on characters' bodies and armor when they are hurt; and feel the easy grace of levitating creatures as their loose garments flutter in the wind.

Each of the three islands in the game have unique architecture and art style incorporating elements of native art of the Southeastern and Northern Europe, South America and Ancient Egyptian. Muck and mire of the fens, glittering snowy mountains, sunlit grassland and dank, gloomy dungeons make an overwhelming abundance of detail, enhanced with the additional effects of mist, rain and smooth day/night change. The original, fully interactive electronic-symphonic ambient music enriched with ancient Scandinavian, Celtic and Irish tunes, is professionally recorded in MP3-files. More than 1000 environmental sounds and noises reflect game events, time of the day and year.

My name is Yusuke Yagami. When I was a boy, I witnessed something which no one should ever see. My own mother, locked in the throes of passion with a man who wasn't my father. Her adultery caused our happy home to come crashing down, and my father divorced her. Since those dark days, I've been mistrustful of what the concept of 'mother' really was.

Now, after so many years, my father remarried, and suddenly, I had a new stepmother, or Gibo.

The woman my father married was not old, but young, and beautiful. When I looked at Misako-san for the first time, I felt something move inside me.

As the days went by, I found myself thinking of my new mother in ways that shocked myself.

Could I accept this beautiful woman as my mother? After all, I found out what mothers are really like the day I saw their unfaithfulness. Punishment may be necessary...
