EarthBound  Nintendo (HAL Laboratory)1995You are Ness, a kid sleeping in his home when a alien comes to you and tells you that you along with three other kids are the only ones who can save the future of Earth. Your mission: find the other three chosen ones and then stop the horrible Gigayas who are going to invade Earth. This is EARTHBOUND!!!***
[32]***Very unique RPG in which you control a child and play in a modern day setting (the 90s).***In an age of RPGs filled with tales of swords and magic and dragons, a new RPG is born to break the mold. Earthbound is a very unique RPG where swords and magic are replaced by baseball bats and psychic powers; instead of dragons you fight crooked cops and cult leaders. The story is light-hearted and humorous, with quite the colorful cast of characters. The graphics are rather sub-par (even for when the game came out) but it's a gaming experience unlike any other.

But when the package explodes, destroying everyone, Cecil and his friend Kain vow to fight the King's dark forces. Will you be able to save the world from their evil plan to control the crystals? Get ready for the most challenging role-playing adventure ever.***My opinion of this game was tainted, or rather not tainted, by having previously only played [game=#7790]Final Fantasy[/game] and not even knowing about the real [game=#19751]Final Fantasy II[/game] or [game=#19752]Final Fantasy III[/game] games. For this reason, my rating was higher than I'm inclined to rate it now. But, when I think back. The game was new, massive, lots of surprise and wonder and, better than the 'original', when I played it. So, I'm not reducing my rating. To [game=#19751]FFII[/game] and especially [game=#19752]FFIII[/game] players, I'll warn, this game might not meet any expectations of better-than-what-came-before. But it will do it with a better interface and graphics. To those who've never played [game=#19751]FFII[/game] and especially [game=#19752]FFIII[/game], it even better than what-came-before. And yes, I did rated [game=#7790]FF[/game] higher, [i]and[/] claim this game is better. That's because [game=#7790]FF[/game] is so much better than its contemporaries.

Someday I hope to play the real [game=#6369]Final Fantasy IV[/game].***
[29]***Note that Easytype was actually made from the untranslated US template and is [i]much[/i] easier than the actual US version. There's apparently a misconception that the US version was made from the Easytype instead.***Only version of Final Fantasy 4 officially released in the United States. This was actually a translation of the 'toned down' version made for kids in Japan. This was to make the game easer for children. It lacked most of the features in the original version- including many weapons, items, and a special item, the 'Porno Mag,' which couldn't actually be viewed.
[anonymous]***Actually Final Fantasy IV toned down and renamed for American players, this is the first installment of the Final Fantasy series for SNES. Not much really stands out in my mind about this game, it's average compared to others. The down side of this game, to me as a gamer, was not only the fact they tried to conceal the absence of the other two NES games by changing the number, but that we received the 'easytype' of the game. Many still consider this game a classic, arguably the best of the series. I've not personally finished the hard type yet, but Final Fantasy V was much nicer, in my opinion.
FFIV is still one of the best rpgs for the snes. It's plot is one of the most well thought up of any rpg.

The third in Square's popular RPG series, and the last on the Famicom. This game was also released April 27, 1990 only in Japan (the Japanese FF6 was released in the U.S. as Final Fantasy III). FF3 features an interesting class changing system that was brought back later in more refined forms in Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy Tactics. A translation to English patch for the ROM is available.

The former Nintendo employee who prefers to be known as 'Mega' reports that an prototype English/NTSC version of this game was created but stolen from an employee who was allowed to take it home. This ended the practice of Nintendo allowing employees to take home prototypes.

[29]***The last of the Final Fantasy series to be released for any Nintendo system, Final Fantasy VI showed a bit of improvement on the side of graphics. However the game falls out of balance quickly, espically after getting espers. The story was alright, but this is not one of my favorates of the series. The music from this game, however, is some of the best in any Final Fantasy game.***From my point of view this was the peak of the series, possibly not including VII. The combat system was refined from V and the story is much more gripping, even from early on. That and the increased dose of humour that was reflected in Chrono Trigger and then in FFVII, a welcome improvement.

(The odd numbering is due to the fact that this was the sixth FF game in Japan, but only the 3rd to get a US release, hence the English translation was badged as Final Fantasy III)
[Flying_Arsedoctor]***A great RPG that could've been better... the only thing that I didn't like about this game was the character classes. ALL the characters can use ALL magic, and most of the equipment can be used by everyone. There is really nothing that sets one character apart from another. Sure you have the special skills, but trust me, those become obsolete fast. Towards the end, all of your characters will be either dual-wielding or casting Ultima in every battle.

There is also an unofficial re-translation of the game, which according to the authors (RPGOne) is more faithful to the original. The patch also inserts the original Japanese titles screen and gives you the option of fixing a few infamous bugs such as the Vanish-Doom bug: [[link:http://www.rpgone.net/ RPGOne]]

Final Fantasy VII  Square1997Final Fantasy VII has quickly become one of the best-selling Role Playing games of all time. Combining fully polygonal characters with pre-rendered backgrounds and a stirring musical score by Nobuo Uematsu, Final Fantasy VII is a worthwhile addition to any RPG collection. The story centers on the young mercenary Cloud Strife, who is fighting against the evil Shinra, Inc. Along the way, he meets an unforgettable cast of characters such as his childhood friend Tifa Lockhart and the grumpy pilot Cid Highwind. All together, it is an unforgettable and engrossing single-player game that can last for over 60 hours!***

[27]***Final Fantasy VII, is one of the best game avalaible for the PSX, the graphics are impressive, the sound Incredible, has more than 1 hour of Full motion Video, and the best of all the storyline is amazing, superb, if you like the RPG the you must have This game. And the VIII too.***This is personally my least favourite Final Fantasy. They did well with the conversion to 3D, but I found the lack of decent story, the bad translation, the below average graphics etc. to be quite a turn off while playing. However, on the flip side of the coin, the spell effects are unrivalled by any other game of its time. The Materia system was an interesting devlopment, but all in all the game is too unbalanced to make it a truly enjoyable experience.***As far as I'm concerned, I think the complete opposite. The graphics were in no way bad for PSX at that time. The combat system was even more balanced than in V or VI, while the story is so huge as to draw you in and flash through the amazing 30 hours of gameplay. Oh and the translation is no worse than most other Japanese RPGs, the PC version tidied this up a bit I think. Plus Sephiroth's sword is kick-butt.***Witness the birth of the 3D RPG. Well, not quite, but a gigantic game with an incredible storyline, coupled with real-time action combat that had be honed through 6 previous games. A favourite instantly, this game brought RPGs out of Japan and selling widely in the West for the first time.***This game was one of the most enveloping games I have ever played. The story was decent (to say the least), and the musical score was heartwarming. I will remember it forever.
[DeviantBlade]***FF7 is seriously overrated, and has produced more fanboys/fangirls than I'd care to count. However it's not all bad, it's pretty decent.
Just not as godly as some would make it out to be.
[Haoie]***I agree with Haoie (above). Actually, got to like the second or third disc and stopped playing. The mini-games and all the damn little secrets were starting to wear me out. I give it credit for being the RPG that brought Japanese RPGs to the masses in the West, but that's about it.

Final Fantasy VII  Eidos;Square Enix (Square;Square Enix)1998The game was re-released in 2012 with the following added: cloud saves, achievements, and an easy access cheat ("Character Booster"). And updated to run on modern Windows OS.***Supposedly, this is not a code port. None of the original source code was used by the outside team from Hawaii that brought this game to Windows. When FF7 for PlayStation was completed, the entire team was reassigned or fired and their unique hardware was sold or dismantled. The source code was unique to the development hardware. Without the specialized hardware, the source code was not compileble or even modifiable in any useful way. Square had neither the people nor the code to do a port. All the new team had was the data specific to the PSX (barely useful) and unuseable source code. Eventually the team discovered that what they had been given was not even from the final PSX version, it was roughly rendered temporary data and pre-alpha code that had never actual been successfully compiled. And to top it off, no one on this new team had every worked on a game before. All this is known because all of the debug information (including rants and raves by the team) were unintentionally left in the executable.***First PC conversion of a Final Fantasy game that finally brought the bizarre numbering system in line in both Japan and Europe/USA.

PC RPGs were never the same again, the gigantic storyline and superb combat translated into the keyboard PC layout with surprising success.

Final Fantasy VIII  Square1999Ultimate character customization "Junction system" Junction system is G. F. (Summoned Beast, Guardian Force) is a system that strengthens abilities by junctioning items (other than items such as items and weapons) to characters.
In addition, remember the junction abilities (attack power junction, defense power junction etc.), you can further enhance the character by junctioning magic (Thunder, Fire etc.) to its abilities. In other words, you can customize characters indefinitely by combining character × abilities x magic.***Final Fantasy VIII, the sequel to Squaresoft's first PlayStation RPG, doesn't feature any of the characters from the original, but it does continue to deliver great gameplay. The story this time centers on Squall Leonhart, a young man in the military who is soon pulled into an adventure that spans the globe. Along the way, other characters can be recruited, ranging from the always-hyper Selphie to the egotistical Irvine. [27]***FF8 is the most controversial from 7, 8 and 9. This is due to the radically different gameplay system. Examples of this include enemies that level with you, requiring component parts to make new weapons, and junctioning magic to make attributes higher. Personally, I loved it.
[Haoie]***This is, without a doubt, the worst of the final fantasies. No armor, No shopping for weapons, An extremely annoying system for aquiring gil... These all together could be overlooked, even with the so-so graphics.
The Real Killer, though, is the main character. Squall is nothing but an uncaring, insensitive, pompous, conceited, jerk. The fact that he 'gets better' later in the game doesn't matter... If you don't want to get there with him in the first place.

[32]***This 'game' is total crap. Seeing that this crap has THREE stars (see below) makes me cringe. Yes, the graphics ARE nice and yes the battle system is also quite nice, but FFX-2 is basically just eye-candy for all the drooling fanboys out there. It's not even an RPG really, it's more like a collection of retarded mini-games. I mean seriously, if I wanted to play a shooting mini-game with a cute heroine, I'd go play Tomb Raider. There's nothing cohesive about this game, so don't even THINK about trying to get the 'good ending' unless you have a strategy guide. For me, this game spelled the beginning of the end for Square. Mother  Nintendo1989"MOTHER" is in fact the name on the Japanese packaging. But the letter "O" is replace with a picture of the earth. Often referred to often as "マザー", though this title is not on the box. "Earthbound Zero" is a fan title for the finished version of an unreleased English prototype. This title was was used because MOTHER 2 was titled "EarthBound" when published in North America.

The official North American English version was completed September, 1990 in the USA. The plans included 2 posters, detailed maps, an enemy chart, a players starting guide (Great-Grandfather's Diary), and an enhanced 80 page instruction manual similar to the Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior packages Nintendo had previously published in the USA. Uniquely the last page of the guide book was torn out but the reader was informed that this was intentional and half the diary was missing. Technical specifications called for a 4 Meg ROM (2 program/2 character), and 64K SRAM (equivalent to the Dragon Warrior IV cartridge). Mother never did get an official cancellation. Rather Nintendo of America was waiting for just the right time to get the maximum return of their RPG sales. The best selling RPGs around that time had sold ten times less copies than other games types. It was assumed the game would not sell without extensive marketing plus the cart and package itself was more expensive. Simple improving/maintain quality of the Nintendo brand was apparently not an issue even though it was known the the game would have made a profit. It just wouldn't have made a 'big enough' profit, according to their research. What was an issue was the fact that people in North America were buying other RPGs, including the older ones, the marketing department apparently wanted a clean window where no other RPGs would be competing with Mother, at least for the first month. The perfect time did not come before Nintendo of America switched priority to marketing the Super Nintendo. (I spoke with a representative at this time who was dumbfounded when I assumed that manufacture of the NES, NES games, and new NES games would persist for many years to come. "But, we're releasing the Super Nintendo next month!". They officially persisted for another 3 to 4 years.) By the time they realized there was still a market for an NES RPG, it was rapidly vanishing. Apparently the decision was made to save money by publishing the game with minimal marketing. Thus further narrowing ideal conditions under which the RPG could make any profit at all They continued to hold on to the game for better release conditions and its marketing potential vanished about the same time Earthbound (Mother 2) was being readied for the Super Nintendo. A release of the game's soundtrack on CD was also scheduled. None of these materials or the official final version of the game have yet been 100% confirmed to have been found. Phil Sandhop says he's [i]almost[/i] 100% sure the found prototype is legit and based on his final version.

Phil Sandhop received and actual printed sheet of Nintendo's censorship policy. A copy of the text of this policy, likely the one Phil Sandhop was given, or very similar to it, can been seen [url=http://www.uvlist.net/forum/thread/20130]here[/url]

An Earth Bound prototype created (loaded with the final or nearly game data) by Nintendo of Canada is owned by Andrew DeRouin
An earlier Earth Bound prototype with a much poorer quality translation is owned by a former Nintendo employee who wishes to remain anonymous but goes by 'Mega' (as in Megaman).
[Zerothis]***EarthBound 0 is an original RPG that takes place in rural America in the 1980's. One might say, 'Original? How can an RPG be original? Don't all RPG's involve knights and stuff?' This is not the case in EarthBound 0. For one, medieval style weapons have been replaced by such oddities as yo-yo's and frying pans. The classic dragons, dark elves, and other demons have been replaced with possessed cars, crazed hippies, and many other off-the-wall enemies. The story is a classic however. Strange occurences begin to happen, a boy sets out to investigate these and his own mysterious past and psychic abilities. He is joined by several friends who aid him in his final goal, which is to defeat the vengeful, conqueristic alien known as Giegue. But it won't be easy. EarthBound 0 is known as Mother in Japan, where it was released in the late 1980's for the Nintendo Famicom system. It was hugely successful and spawned dozens of strategy guides, comic books, soundtracks and more. EarthBound 0 has four main characters: Ninten, Ana, Loid, and Teddy. The first three resemble characters in EarthBound for the SNES, but there doesn't seem to be any specific connection between the plot of the two games. A lot of the places and enemies have the same or similar names, however. Nintendo translated the game to English, but never released the game. In 1998, a group of ROM translators discovered that Nintendo had auctioned off a prototype of the EarthBound 0 cartridge. They contacted the individual who had acquired the game, and made an agreement to borrow the game for a few hundred dollars so they could dump the cartridge to a ROM file. That is how we are able to play EarthBound 0 now. The actual name of the game was 'EarthBound'. However, since the sequel to Mother, which was released in North America, is also called EarthBound, the game has been dubbed 'EarthBound 0'.

Mother 3  Nintendo2006Strange and interesting.
And it's sad.

A simple mountain hut stands in a beautiful, laid-back landscape. This is the residence of the grandfather of the boy who is the main character.
The twin boys went with their mother to play with their grandfather. To play with the big, friendly animal Drago and everybody. Gather around the table and taste mother's home cooking. The fun time goes by in a blink of an eye.

I am supposed to return to Tatsumairi village where my father is waiting by the end of today.
Just go through the usual forest and go home. There were no signs of ominousness.
A pigeon with a letter saying "I'll be back soon" took off from the dusk sky.

Where is this in the world, when is it, and is it a tragedy or a comedy?
The story begins, leaving everything a mystery. Welcome to the world of MOTHER 3.

Secret of Mana  Square1993[media=youtube]https://youtu.be/IhkrKmANoik[/media]***[b]Development History:[/b]

Seiken Densetsu: The Emergence of Excalibur was planned to be a massive 5 disk, 4 player RPG for Nintendo's Disk System that reached a stage of development that had Square confident enough to accept payments for pre-orders. But it never quite came together before financial troubles threaten to bankrupt Square in 1987. As a last magnus opus, Square published Final Fantasy before closure. Surprise, FF rescued the company from financial demise. Square was reluctant to give up Seiken Densetsu because they had spent resources setting up the intellectual property rights associated with it (and taken pre-orders). The Seiken Densetsu project was reopened, this time as an cartridge based game, due to the waning popularity of the Disk System. But other projects kept occupying their people, such as Final Fantasy II, and Final Fantasy III. At one point, the title was referred to as ファイナルファンタジーIV (Final Fantasy IV) in the press; but internally, the massive project seemed doomed, so much so, that Square slapped the name on a Final Fantasy spin-off for Gameboy, 聖剣伝説 ~ファイナルファンタジー外伝~ (Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden/Final Fantasy Adventure/Mystic Quest) that was originally named Gemma Knights. This is where the NES version of the game ends. Then came the announcement of the Super Nintendo CD-ROM add-on. Final Fantasy Gaiden did well enough for a sequel, so Seiken Densetsu: The Emergence of Excalibur was reinvigorated as a CD-ROM project. Some elements of Final Fantasy Gaiden were added to the design. Finally, the project was finished, then Super Nintendo CD-ROM venture collapsed, Seiken Densetsu was over, sort of. The game was speedily chopped down to cartridge size and published as Seiken Densetsu 2/Secret of Mana.

DOG was a cooperative venture between 7 videogame companies that developed games then published them under the Square brand. During the "ファイナルファンタジーIV" stage, all materials used the DOG Square label.***

[Zerothis]***Good and evil battle for a young warrior's heart. There is one force in the universe that keeps good and evil in perfect balance. It is called the tree of Mana. But a magic sword has tricked a young warrior into upsetting this balance, spreading evil throughout the land. Thus, the warrior must undertake a dangerous journey to find the seeds of the Mana tree, which have been hidden for centuries. Only then can perfect harmony be restored. In this incredible adventure, things are not as they seem. Magic swords release evil as well as fight it. Treasure chests hold booby traps. Monsters are friends and friends are enemies. Potions give power, black magic takes it away. Dragons fly, weapons change. It's a world turned upside down that you must help the warrior make right. And the only way to succeed is to solve the Secret of Mana.***Ahhh, old school SNES RPGs... aren't they great? And Secret of Mana (henceforth SoM) was, and indeed still is one of the best. An action-orientated RPG along the same lines as the equally wonderful Zelda games, SoM is one of those games that I can keep playing through without getting bored. The plot is good, if a little unoriginal, and it has a great multiplayer option, a rarity in SNES RPGs.***One of the greatest RPG's ever made for SNES. It comes in English and a few other languages, like French, German and Spanish.

7 de 10***The year is 1962 and the Cold War has the nation gripped by fear. A top-secret government unit called The Bureau begins investigating a series of mysterious attacks by an enemy more powerful than communism. As agent Carter, call the shots, pull the trigger and lead your squad in a gripping third-person tactical shooter set within a covert war to protect humanity from an otherworldly enemy.***The plot has a tragic logical fallacy about the Bureau performing a complete erasing of the truth of what happened, except the invasion was global and they had no control over what happened in other countries and the amount of secrecy they held over the event (likely poor/none in several), yet it's said no evidence of the invasion was left to the public.
