Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss  Origin (Blue Sky Productions)1992Historical note: This game was the first, first person 3D game (it preceded Wolfenstein 3D by two months). Also the engine is much more advanced than the Wolfenstein 3D engine was. Not just in the RPG elements but the 3D environment, dynamic lighting, curved surfaces, real bridges and tunnels, texture resolution and variation, and vertical variation in the terrain. However, the system requirements of UW are higher than Wolf 3D.

Thief: The Dark Project  Eidos (Looking Glass Studios)1998Working title: The Dark Project
Original project title: Dark Camelot***sentient artefact - The Eye
gameplayinn - first person stealth; possibly started the whole stealth game rage.***To call Thief a first-person shooter is to strip away what the game brought to the gaming scene. Set in a magical medieval city, the player is a thief, with the ability to become almost invisible in shadows. And here is where 'first-person sneaker' became it's own genre.

Emphasizing strategy and stealth over raw killing ability, the game brought a new idea to first-person shooters. Sure, the sword and bow are necessary, but the blackjack, and avoiding combat, are even more effective.

Well designed cut scenes, incredible graphics, unmatchable atmosphere, etc etc all meant that Thief was a superb game.

Thief II: The Metal Age  Eidos (Looking Glass Studios)2000This was the most disappointing part of the Thief trilogy for me. The emphasis on steampunk-ish environment and all those steamgolems took the feel of it away. Still, it has the same playability as the other Thief games except for the theme change so gameplay wise it has the same level of excellence with some minor improvement.***A sequel to Thief: The Dark Project. Without introducing any drastic advances in terms of gameplay, there were many small improvements, both graphically and in terms of level design, etc. Another fantastic offering. Thief Gold  Eidos (Looking Glass Studios)1999Stalk your prey on the quest for stolen goods with your blackjack, sword, and an assortment of unique arrows. Steal for money and uncover the hidden agendas of your allies and enemies as you play through an unravelling story of deception and revenge. Survive in a world where shadows are your only ally, trust is not an option, and confrontation results in death!

Key Features:
* Pioneering stealth based gameplay brings a new dimension to first person action.
* Thief™ Gold includes Thief™ The Dark Project (12 huge missions with multiple environments) and the Gold update (3 new campaign missions which deepen the plot and add five new types of enemies)
* Advanced enemies can see, hear, speak, and sound alarms.
* Your arsenal includes: blackjack, sword, fire arrows, water arrows, rope arrows and more

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild  Retro Studios (Retro Studios;Nintendo EAD 3)2017It is reported that the smallest dungeon in the game is as large and Ocarina's Hyrule Field. The larger dungeons will actually be divided into multiple sub dungeons and take more than 2 hours to complete. Each dungeon will offer 'a unique gameplay experience'. Kind of like each dungeon being a completely new Zelda game. The game is expected to utilize all 25 GB of available storage on the BluRay. The graphics will be 1080p. Well more than 200 people divided into multiple teams have been working on this game since 2010. There will be online features line Miiverse and in-game tip sharing, butv no online multiplayer. Its built on a custom engine, as expected. As of 2012-09-14, the tech demos and screenshots previously seen by the public are not representative of the game except for the image of an adult Link playing an ocarina in the forest. Much of the game's design has been based on features of the tablet controller. Some tablet controller features themselves were suggested by members of the Zelda Wii-U team. If the team does as they say, then this game will take advantage of NFC, 6-axis motion sensors, touchscreen, camera, handwriting recognition, microphone, stereo speakers, rumble features.***
This demo shown to the public does not represent the game that is being developed.
(this video has been extensively restored from shaky, partially obscured shot of the original being played on an HD screen. While it cannot possibly be 100% accurate, it represents the original very well and contributes no significant errors.)

Like System Shock 1, there will be persistent levels (i.e., drop an item on one level, and you could go back later to retrieve it), gameplay elements like logs, inventory, skills, persistent world, leaning, hacking, RPG elements, multiple weapons and enemies, and a compelling storyline. Unlike most other first person shooters, the purpose of System Shock was not to kill everything in sight; nor was it a "find the key to move onto the next level" game. The plot was always present, but not so confining as in traditional shooters—there was almost always more than one task to accomplish. Levels were realistically designed and had logical reasons behind them. It is the principle of System Shock 2 to continue this game design."

System Shock Electronic Arts;Origin (Looking Glass Technologies)1994The game has difficulty levels separately for combat, puzzles, cyberspace and plot. At highest plot difficulty, the game has a real-time limit imposed which is perhaps the greatest challenge you face and certainly not something you want on your first playthrough. Cyberspace also has timelimit on highest difficulty, but this only causes you to eject from cyberspace and nothing more serious.***The CD-ROM version (1994/11) added optional SVGA mode - 640x480 resolution instead of the original VGA 320x240 - with improved graphics and full speech for the logs and SHODAN.

* Rich character development systems: Skills, augmentations, weapon and item selections and multiple solutions to problems ensure that no two players will end the game with similar characters.
* Multiple solutions to problems and character development choices ensure a varied game experience. Talk, fight or use skills to get past obstacles as the game adapts itself to your style of play.
* Strong storyline: Built on "real" conspiracy theories, current events and expected advancements in technology. If it's in the game, someone, somewhere believes it.
