AMD's 3DNow! is advertized on the back cover, so obviously this game can benefit from it.***You're Raziel, one of Kain's Vampire Generals.. or rather, you were. Kain betrayed you, when you showed him that you had evolved beyond him. So he granted you death, by ripping out your new wings and throwing you down in to the Abyss. Dead, at least that's what you thought, you re-awaken in the Underworld, right under the nose the Elder. Confused, weak, and no longer a vampire, you set out to settle some matters with your former master, Kain.

More in-depth description:
... Although you were no longer a vampire, you still suffered some of their natural weaknesses, such that of water burning you like acid or sun scorching your skin like fire. However, you rid most of these weaknesses from yourself over time as you devour the souls of your slain enemies. You're young in your new form, though, and can't hold your physical form forever in the material realm, constantly draining your strength, the longer you stay there unsated. So at any time you're weakened too much, you're transported back into the spirit realm where you can sate your hunger with the lost souls. Your ability to transport yourself back and forth between material and spiritual realms is fundamental to your success, and adds an interesting depth to some puzzles and fights. However, you're practically immortal, even if you were to die, as if you could, you're transported back to the underworld, below throbbing tendrils and the everwatchful gaze of the Elder.
[Blizzard]***If you're even thinking about buying Diablo 2, then say goodbye to family, friends, and your job. Run away to Mexico if you have to, because Diablo 2 is too good. It's one of those games that keep you awake at night. It makes you think about gold and magic items while your working. You'll miss entire meals for this game. It's so good it's scary.
That's right, folks, evil is back, and badder than ever. Your job, again, is to stop evil from destroying the world. You do it by hacking millions of demons and goblins to pieces, gaining experience, and finding magical items. Basically, this is the formula for the entire game, and it's more fun than should be allowed by law.

You're on the hunt for Kain, the one who betrayed you and threw you into the Abyss where your vampiric self was transformed into the Soul Reaver that you are now. There's a lot of time travel involved in this one, and is a bit more complex in the plot than the prequel, but at least you get to know the world better, and your own history, before you became a vampire and some odd prophetic stuff about your destiny. The ending was surprising, to say the least, and set ground for [game=#110390]Defiance[/game] quite nicely. The new Elemental Forge enhancements to your Soul Reaver sword was a bit annoying, but you still had most of your old abilities (minus the least useful one), and the Elemental Forges themselves were interesting and visually impressive puzzles (like rest of the game, though I only remember the wind forge right out of the top).

The thing they think is running is literally sprinting largely accomplished by the aid of the HEV suit (a type of utility power armor) Gordon is wearing. From the official site:
By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, and adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviors -- even the emotions -- of both friends and enemies.

The player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people -- people he cares about -- are counting on him.

Dreamfall: The Longest Journey  Aspyr Media (Funcom)20066 years after the critically acclaimed modern adventure The Longest Journey was released comes the sequel Dreamfall. It will feature some characters from TLJ, but will concentrate mostly on a new cast. The premise is that the Earth we know is actually only half the story of the universe. Our scientific Earth's true name is Stark, and its reality is mirrored in another dimension by a magical Earth called Arcadia. The game concerns a young woman named April Ryan who lives on Stark in the 23rd century. When a disaster throws the balance between the scientific and magical Earths out of whack, it's up to April to step in and restore equilibrium between the two universes. Core to the story are three playable characters: Zoë Castillo a twenty-year old young woman who lives with her grandfather; Kian an assassin who will begin to question his beliefs and returning from TLJ, April Ryan who will discover that no matter how hard you try, you cannot escape the past. In what can best be described as a modernized version of point-and-click, characters will have an innovative 'focus field' that allows you to interact with and scan the environment. Instead of point-and-click, you sweep the area with the focus field to find interactive objects or inventory items. One of the puzzles we were shown utilized the 'focus field' as your character had to light a torch and it does facilitate a smooth transition between puzzle and game without interrupting the flow of the game.***

[12]***Otherwise great game, except the combat had ridiculous control mechanism, the fact that the story ends in middle of everything and they should've left the zealot guy and April as NPCs (what's with April's new goth outlook anyway?). The locations also felt ridiculously small and made me think of some age-old consoles and their smaller than sensible limitations. Have to say that I prefer the original.***Although the main character is Zoë Castillo, you get to control April Ryan and the zealot guy too for a time and see what they're up to.

It details the aftermath of Half Life 2 and launches a journey beyond City 17.

Stepping into the hazard suit of Dr. Gordon Freeman, you face the immediate repercussions of your actions in City 17 and the Citadel. Rejoin Alyx Vance and her robot, Dog, to once again aid the human resistance in their desperate battle against the totalitarian alien menace of the Combine.

Episode One exposes Alyx's combat skills and knowledge of City 17. Battle side-by-side with her through Valve's first episodic game, a four-to-six hour adventure of greater density and detail than non-episodic releases.

Step into the unknown.

Gameplay
Penumbra: Overture is a first person adventure game that focuses on story, immersion and puzzles. Instead of using violence to progress the player has to use his/her wits to guide Philip on his quest to unravel the past. Played from a first person viewpoint, Penumbra is very different from other adventure games. Not only is it powered by a 3D engine utilizing cutting edge technology, it also has an advanced physics system which allow for a never before seen environment interaction.

The weapon system differs from your average game; swinging a melee weapon is done using the mouse, which increases the realistic feel of combat. Fighting enemies is not something best done with brute force though, in most situations fighting is a last resort and the player is often better of using his/her wits. The AI of the enemies will also do its best to hunt and scare the player. The creatures encountered can break down doors, use group co-ordination, interact with the physics and more.

Penumbra: Overture will keep players on the edge as they have to explore scary and immerse environments never knowing what is behind the next corner. The world is detailed, graphical as well as a story wise making the player feel part of the world as secrets are uncovered.

Features
* Detailed and atmospheric environments.
* State of the art interaction system.
* Thrilling blend of puzzles and action.
* Dark secrets to be discovered.
* Over 8 hours of gameplay.

Halo 2 Microsoft Game Studios (Bungie Studios)2007Falling Leaf Systems released a patch that removes the Windows Vista limitation. This is not a patch that modifies the game, it merely keeps the game from checking which Window version it is running on. It runs fine on Windows XP (with Directx 10 installed, also courtesy of FLS), the OS check is entirely an artificial ploy to encourage XP users to stick themselves with Vista.

Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath  Electronic Arts (EA Los Angeles)2008Far more enjoyable to play than the base CnC3 in my experience, and the difficulty options actually work properly in this. In terms of story, Kane's Wrath is sort of a filler, covering things between second and third tiberium wars, clarifying some events of third tiberium war and shows part of the events leading to CnC4. If anyone is ever interested in CnC3, then this is the only reason to get it, besides following the story of Kane (Tiberium series) if you're into that sort of thing.

For Desmond, this is the life of Altaïr Ibn La-Ahad (الطائر), an assassin who lived during the Third Crusade in 1191. Although the story skips the kidnapping and starts with Desmond jagged into the Animus and experiencing some synchronization issues with it.

The game is difficult to categorize and abundantly lampshaded by the fact that most of the game takes place inside the Animus which has been created to produce a video game like experience, so effectively you're playing a video game inside a video game. And the experience produced by the Animus is an abstraction of sorts with various alterations that make it easier for the user to operate it, such as translating all languages to plain English and so forth. So any inconsistencies with reality are due to that, and since memories aren't exactly logical 1 to 1 copies of reality, much illogical instances can occur, some of which can be interpreted to mean some very strange things.

Director's Cut Edition is apparently just alternate name for the thing and is in no way different from PC releases without that extra bit in their name.

Dead Space Electronic Arts (EA Redwood Shores)2008Un survival horror soberbio, donde tus recursos son limitadísimo y temerás hasta el titileo de la luz de la nave.

8 de 10***Only the Dead Survive.

A massive deep-space mining ship goes dark after unearthing a strange artifact on a distant planet. Engineer Isaac Clarke embarks on the repair mission, only to uncover a nightmarish blood bath — the ship's crew horribly slaughtered and infected by alien scourge. Now Isaac is cut off, trapped, and engaged in a desperate fight for survival.

* Strategically dismember the Necromorph enemies limb by bloody limb.
* Zero gravity combat means terror can strike from anywhere.
* Uncover the horrific truth of this shocking thriller.***Finishing the game on hard difficulty unlocks impossible difficulty (as well as giving 50k credits, 10 power nodes and military suit). What that entails, however, is unknown.***2009-01-09 on Steam (lang: eng, fre, ita, spa, ger)***Launch trailer
***There has been several animated comics and apparently they're making a direct-to-DVD/Bluray animated film as well to cover the back story (and so far it seems like they're selling the movie separately). I truly hope these are included in the final game, I hate to miss out on the plot simply because the people want to make more money out of it.***achillesheelfoes / dismemberment — this is the only way you can defeat the necromorphs, by shooting or otherwise ripping off all their limbs. Just shooting at their head or torso won't help much (much like with zombies).
technomagic — (tele)kinesis and stasis devices, the latter of which literally creates a temporal distortion that significantly slows down the passge of time for the targeted object or creature (ergo, slowing their movements down to crawl).

limited supplies — happens only with ammo in case you use single weapon exclusively (you can carry 4). Otherwise you have plenty of ammo around.
faceless protagonist — you can rotate the camera early on in the in-game cinematic portion to point towards the back of the ship when Isaac hasn't donned his helmet yet, showing his face clearly.
