Starship Troopers  Hasbro Interactive (Blue Tongue Software)2000Latest version: 1.1 (as of 2000-11?)

There's also separate patch for Nvidia GPUs, released presumably in 2001.***Seemingly based on the 1997 movie, the 1999 CG series and the original book to varying degrees. The bulky power armor are definitely influenced by the 1999 CG series rather than the original books.***Not to be mistaken with the [game=#164661]2005 FPS[/game] game by the same name from Strangelite.

Fiend GripDesign2001Fiend is a a 2D survival horror game greatly influenced on the work of HP Lovecraft. You play as Nick Cane who is sent to the small town of Lauder to see if a mine contains any valuable minerals. Arriving at Lauder you suspect that all is not right with the town and slowly the visit turns into a nightmare.

Dinosaurs will die after a while if either is missing for too long. Possibly a factor with the tourists as well, but only to keep them at the park longer.
npc anxiety/fear — seen if a dinosaur breaks free from their containment area (this affects the tourists) or if two different dinosaurs (specifically a carnivore and herbivore or large carnivore with smaller carnivore) are forced to be too close to each other. The dinosaurs may try to avoid the carnivore so much that they can't stave their hunger and eventually starve to death unless the carnivore ends up killing them (is that even possible here? didn't witness it, but hypothetically it could happen). To prevent this, you can either provide separate holding areas for the dinos or large enough single area for them to prowl so they can keep their distance naturally. The latter is obviously much harder set up and maintain, but the game does provide sufficient mechanisms to attempt it.***Latest version: retail.

S³: Silent Storm – Sentinels JoWood Productions;Nordic Games (Nival Interactive)2004The war has left many scars. A lot of people who have been dragged into fighting as green rookies now cannot imagine a quiet and peaceful life.
These people come together to form groups and organisations performing "special services" for governments and private individuals alike.
At the same time, not everybody who craved for limitless power have
abandoned their plans.
Now they're waiting and accumulating resources, to try change history again and decide the fate of humanity...
In "Sentinels" Veterans of the WW2 special operations units introduced in the original Silent Storm game come together to form a secret organisation called the Sentinels.

Their objective is to keep the post-war world peaceful, balanced and safe.
All of them have encountered a terrorist organisation called Thor's Hammer during the war, which has tried to put the whole world under their control.
The immediate reason to form the Sentinels was information suggesting that Thor's Hammer is still very much around, and pursues the same agenda.

Cold Fear Ubisoft Entertainment (Darkworks)2005There's only two things I dislike about this game. For one, being able to carry every single weapon found. This is supposed to be survival horror, you know. For second, the boss battle. I can't remember playing more aggravating boss battle than this on PC (console gamers seem to love these insanely overpowered bosses as they're so damn common on them). Way overpowered compared to anything else met and nothing prepares you for it. Finally used a trainer to get through it because the game was sitting at the final battle for over a month (probably one fourth of the game can be played in the same amount of time I invested solely on the boss battle).
Effectively you have to shoot the boss until he turns his attention to you, dodge the charge he makes either left or right, by staring at him in the aim view until he raises either of his arms to strike (so you know which side to dodge to), and repeat this until Anna escapes (which takes some 5+ charges). After this you have to wait for him to charge, dodge that, and then run back in front of him so he can grab you - YES! you have to intentionally let him grab you here. And then hit action button to get released. After you do this the third time, you can shoot him in the face. This has to be repeated about 3 times in total, so that's surviving about 9 more charges while managing to let him grab you. You don't have any healing items and you die on the third charge you fail to dodge. There's also the fact that the only way to dodge the boss is to stare down at him until he raises either of his arms (lest you wish to rely on luck as there's no pattern) and then swivel quickly to the opposite side, release aim and run. There's probably less than a second for you to do this, so imagine repeating this sequence few times, dying at the final part several dozen times because you can't do it fast enough, and that's pretty much it for playing this game through without cheating.

Tom gets infected second time but I don't recall him getting an antidote, so I have to assume he spreads the parasites to the rest of the world. Desert Law is a new spin on the traditional real-time strategy that immerses players into a post-apocalyptic world where gasoline is the new world currency.

Players can have anything if they have gas to pay for it, or gamers can loose everything with one tactical mistake. Mankind is rebuilding civilization off the scattered remains of pre-doomsday technology with unfamiliar equipment and knowledge which it inherited from ancestors. Disorderly gangs roam the wastelands, and if gamers want to survive, they will have to fight to stay alive. Mad technicians of the world-gone-insane will give the players a chance to use more than 50 types of vehicles with different kinds of military equipment, from the ordinary car to radically altered homemade war machines. With more than 30 missions in an intriguing scenario gamers will have to fight all manner of desert scum before satisfying Bred's thirst for vengeance.

Strange Attractors Ominous Development2006Strange Attractors was created for a 'One Switch' competition. Just because the only button used by the game is the space bar (and Esc to exit) doesn't mean the gameplay isn't complex and unique. Remember, not everything that is simple is easy!

By pressing the spacebar, you activate the gravity drive of your craft and create an attractive force between yourself and the other objects in the game. Your goal is to sling and bounce yourself from the bottom of the level through the portal at the top.

We have never seen anyone play this game and not laugh out loud.

* 2.5 GB HD space***Three thousand years in the far distant future after what was believed to be the arrival of "The Savior", Mankind has carved a bloody path across the known Universe.

Considering themselves a divine race and beyond reproach as a species, they view all alien races as inferior.

Those that do not bend and acknowledge the infinite superiority of the Human genome are subsequently punished or simply destroyed.

This dominion over almost all sentient life forms was only attainable through the creation and exploitation of the ‘organids' – genetically designed organic technology, easily adaptable to any enemy strategy through the introduction of seeds into the blank genetic makeup of these living machines.

The governing body directing the initiative is "The Chair of Three" on which the representatives of three Human factions reside: The Military, the Church and the Judicature.

Only one part of the Universe remains unconquered: The galaxy where the Universal Heart; an enigmatic entity that spawned all life and matter into the universe, is hidden. At least, that's what the Chair of Three believes.

As Captain Iconah, you have been commissioned to uncover the location and purpose of the Heart. A battle-hardened fleet commander and a brilliant genetic designer, you must follow in your father's footsteps; quelling the alien insurgences, outsmarting pirate cohorts and uncovering the lost galaxy and the secrets hidden within.

The fate of Humankind rests on the path you choose; take command and lead your fleet to a glorious destiny and ensure the survival of the species!

Granado Espada  K2 Network;Nival Online (IMC Entertainment)2007
그라나도 에스파다
literally reads
geuranado eseupada
which is transliteration of "granado espada".***Sword of the New World: Granado Espada was developed by Hakkyu Kim, CEO of imcGAMES and creator of Ragnarok Online. In Korea, Sword of the New World not only won the award for Best Graphics but also captured the 2006 Presidential Award for Game of the Year. K2 Network now brings this amazing game to the West, and its localized version will feature an enhanced storyline, a more robust character creation process, better pacing, AI optimization, a more intuitive control system, hundreds of new quests and many other game enrichments. Set on a mysterious, dangerous continent with a story inspired by Europe's exploration and conquest of America, Sword of the New World is destined to dominate the world of MMOs by virtue of its groundbreaking design features, fast-paced gameplay and amazing graphics.

Revolutionary Gameplay

Sword of the New World gives players more options, variety, entertainment and challenges than any other MMO can by virtue of its unique design features. With multi-character control (MCC), players are able to command up to three characters simultaneously. No longer limited to playing one character at a time, players can instantly switch between their favorite character classes or control them all at once. Each one of those character classes - musketeer, wizard, fighter, scout, elementalist, and the unique player characters (UPCs) - acquires, over time, an impressive set of combat stances. Each stance offers unique skills, abilities and equipment options, making every class as powerful as it is versatile. With an entire family of such characters to develop, players will finally get to experience the sort of MMO gameplay they have been craving for years.

A New World of Action

The pace of battle in Sword of the New World is swift and exciting in both player vs. environment (PvE) and player vs. player (PvP) combat. Players will experience amazing adventures as they solo their team of characters in the wilderness, feud against individual rivals in family vs. family duels, group with other players in dungeons to defeat epic bosses, and unite with fellow clan members in massive city vs. city conflicts. This is Sword of the New World, and this is what MMOs should be.

A Killer Work of Art

Sword of the New World features a bold, original art direction inspired by the supremacy of Europe's Baroque period. Striking graphics make this title as thrilling to look at as it is to play, and the game's brilliant design allows it to run on a variety of systems. Handsome and beautiful character models, eerie and fantastic dungeons, breathtaking landscapes and magnificent cities all await players of this gorgeous game. Evocative music completes each unique area of the game world and makes Sword of the New World nothing less than a masterpiece of adventure.

Loki  Focus Home Interactive;Crimson Cow (Cyanide)2007PL 2007-09-07 by Techland***securom7 - only in Chinese release***"Loki" is a hack 'n' slash (action/RPG) and it is, by far, the studio's most ambitious project to date. However, it is not the first incursion into a fantasy world as the subtle blend of humour and haemoglobin in "Chaos League" met with popular success.

A fantasy voyage through the great mythologies, Loki allows the player to take on the role of one of the 4 heroes of the game, each drawn from a different mythology : a mighty Norse fighter, a fierce Greek warrior, a powerful Egyptian magician or an Aztec shaman who masters the secrets of the spirit world.

Whatever hero the player adopts, he must come to the aid of the gods he worships. He will come to realise that behind the chaos that is threatening his world lies Seth, the Egyptian god of darkness and evil, who has returned from the kingdom of the dead.

The hero must therefore undertake an epic journey across the various epochs and myths. He will fight a multitude of monsters of all shapes and sizes, and even overthrow a few gods, on his way to preventing Seth establish his wicked reign.

Main Features

* An epic adventure across 4 great mythologies – Aztec, Egyptian, Greek and Norse – allowing the player to live through many of the key episodes that mark these cultures (the siege of Troy, Ragnarok, ......) and setting him in the path of the most prominent figures within each episode (Achilles, Thor, Akhenaton.....)
* Choose from 4 different heroes with radically different attributes and powers. Each hero has a vast array of spells and skills to help him through his quest.
* More than 100 monsters of all shapes and sizes
* Dare to take on mythological creatures that struck fear into the hearts of our ancestors (Fenrir the giant wolf, the Minotaur in his labyrinth, .......)
* Innumerable story lines through random generation of decors and items, so that nobody lives the same experience and allowing the game to be played many times without the hero ever having the same set of weapons, armour or spells.
* Weapons, being made of two parts (loosely "handle" + "cutting edge") and from different materials, can be customised at the village forge to change characteristics. Magic runes, found along the way, can multiply a weapon's power.
* Live through the adventure with friends in cooperative multiplayer mode or fight in single combat against friend or foe in PVP mode on a battleground.

SecuROM is used to enforce CD-in-drive, enforce an online activation, to damage the data on the CD to try to prevent coping it, and was for a much hated "installation limit" that prevented more than 3 install attempts. The geniuses at 2k game didn't want people installing the product on multiple PCs simultaneously and figured that limiting attempts would do the trick. Ingoring the fact that the CD-in-drive restriction already prevents multiple installations from running simultaneously. In reality, it caused the game to be uninstallable if the install process was abandon 3 times (due to errors, or failed requirements such as HD space, or just someone changing their mind). It also forbid reinstallation in cases of a crashed PC or transfer to new computer or in cases of system restore. Any finally, it was possible to successfully install 3 copies on 3 PCs simultaneously, this restriction failed in its purpose! After much complaint, 2k games announced, "Good news! As promised, all activation restrictions, including install limits, have been removed from BioShock PC as of today. You don't have to patch or install anything for this to go into effect for your copy of BioShock – it's already done! " This is NOT and announcement of removal of SecuROM! 2kgames later said "Our other methods of copy protection remain. You will still have to activate your copy, and you will still need to keep the disc in the drive. SecuROM has not been removed" So the cpremoved tag does not yet apply.
[Zerothis]***
No encounter ever plays out the same way twice. No two gamers will ever play BioShock the same way.
This is because the game has quite rapid respawn rate (enough rapid to be irritating and making the game into forced slugfest), causing encounters to happen even if not wanted and the creatures wander around aimlessly through the levels with apparently nothing to do. They sometimes huddle over corpses as if there was something interesting there, but there really isn't (I had scavenged all valuables from those corpses long ago).

Though I have to admit that I did play it on the hardest difficulty, so maybe that's (the rapid respawn) the only way they could think of how to make it more difficult. Didn't have much chance for stealth or alternative approaches when the guys were running everywhere.

Although it was advertized that munitions were supposedly scarce, I never really ran out of them, actually I was almost constantly maxed, except in the particular weapon I had taken a liking of and after fighting swarms and swarms of suddenly script-spawning enemies or after fighting a Big Daddy (they really can take a beating).

The only ways this game is better than Quake 4, Doom 3 or the like is that it's more free roaming (though there's very little use for it), has conversations and some sort of plot twists as well as the light RPG-ness in form of weapon and plasmid upgrades.

The number of choices of approach are quite limited actually, either you shoot them or you.. well.. shoot them. Sneaking past them is usually impossible, or simply just ridiculously difficult opposed to just shooting them and the game has too many scripted sequences where you have to shoot them regardless of how you wanted to do it.

The reliance on scripted sequences for variance is too old, but gives stronger story (scripted sequences are required to have a story, but the use of them outside it is not very good). Some of the things that happened were also very retro FPS-like, for example the one case where I picked up a new gun and swarms of new Mobs were spawned so I could "test it out".

Sad little game in that regard, but can be fun if you ignore all that.

On the confrontation with Ryan, I heard a rather poor explanation for it once (if I remember it correctly, they simply assumed Ryan was raving mad). My own interpretation of it, however, is different.
Ryan first demonstrates the protagonist's dilemma, he's been "programmed" to follow orders of others, with key words activating certain behaviour and in this case, simple "please" would force the protagonist to do as was asked. Protagonist ridiculously follows Ryan's brief orders ("turn around", "run", etc.) followed by "please", until finally Ryan gives him a golf club and tells the protagonist to "kill" (please), while the protagonist is beating him to death, Ryan solemnly repeats a motto: "Man chooses, slave obeys." which he had said earlier (IIRC). This is where some might think Ryan is insane, however, to me he seems idealistic or something that the protagonist is not a slave as he was made to be (which he also demonstrated with his earlier commands), but a free man, able to choose his own actions. Unfortunately, the protagonist is unable to break through the "programming" (mind control) and finally kills Ryan.
***BioShock is a shooter unlike any you've ever played, loaded with weapons and tactics never seen. You'll have a complete arsenal at your disposal from simple revolvers to grenade launchers and chemical throwers, but you'll also be forced to genetically modify your DNA to create an even more deadly weapon: you. Injectable plasmids give you super human powers: blast electrical currents into water to electrocute multiple enemies, or freeze them solid and obliterate them with the swing of a wrench.

[2K Games]***In the middle of the north Atlantic, a lighthouse juts out of the water. Inside waits a rusted bathysphere, which takes you deep under the ocean to Rapture, a city sprawling along the sea floor.

A man named Andrew Ryan, a former Soviet citizen, built the city in 1946, and the society was envisioned as the ultimate capitalistic and individualist paradise, with the elite achieving for themselves, rather than for the whole. Protected by a network of giant sea walls and consisting of a cluster of enormous skyscraper-shaped hive towers, Rapture was designed to be entirely self-supporting, with all of its electricity, food production, water purification and defense systems powered by volcanic vents at the bottom of the ocean.

At one point Rapture's population numbered several thousand at its peak during the early 1960s, composed of those people Ryan viewed as the best examples of mankind. A large and tiered economy grew among the people, with different quality products catering to different levels of the society.

The grand Art Deco architecture is at once futuristic and archaic, but as you step into Rapture, you find the city a shell of itself. The walls are crumbling and the ocean is seeping in. The hallways are littered with corpses, those who were once the best and brightest of the world above are now mutated and mad, roaming the corridors and waiting to ambush you at every turn.

* Character Classes
Fight against the demons of the underworld as one of several unique character classes. like the Templar, each class has a unique visual and game-play style based on its particular history and place in the world. Randomly generated items that can be modified in numerous ways ensure that heroes are distinct and individualized.
* Hell on Earth
Battle against a wide variety of demonic enemies, each with their own unique attributes, abilities, and vulnerabilities.
* Infinite Re-playability
With dynamically generated levels, massive quantities of randomly created items, chance events and story-driven quests, no two gaming experiences are ever the same. Differing levels of rarity and modification potential for items and skills also mean that every game played is a unique event.
* Single-Player and Online Multiplayer Support
While Hellgate : London stands on its own as a singleplayer game, it also provides a compelling multiplayer experience via a dedicated online gaming destination. By creating unique and individualized gameplay "instances" within a vast online community, Hellgate provides gamers with all the best parts of traditional massive multiplayer games, but without any of the common downsides.

Global tensions have reached boiling point as the U.S. and North Korea square off in the South China Sea. At stake: a mysterious artifact uncovered by a team of U.S. archeologists.

The North Korean government quickly seizes the area, prompting the U.S. to dispatch an elite team of Delta Force operatives on a rescue mission. During the siege the true nature of the artifact quickly emerges, pointing to the existence of an alien presence on Earth, and ultimately the trigger for a massive-scale alien invasion.

The battle to save Earth begins as the aliens' flash freeze the tropics into a ghostly-white frozen landscape.

As gamers take up arms against the aliens, they will be outfitted with customisable weapons and a high tech nano-suit, allowing them to adapt their tactics and abilities to a hostile, ever-changing environment and a mysterious enemy.

Lonely, restless Naija has spent her entire life wrestling with questions about her identity. We join her as she takes her first steps away from the comfort of home and into new, potentially dangerous waters. Through exploration and magical combat, Naija will unearth the history of Aquaria and connect with beings lost in the depths of time. On the search to discover the fate of her people, her destiny and that of Aquaria's will be forever altered.

A massive, underwater fantasy world to explore

Aquaria is an action-oriented, non-linear 2D side-scrolling game. Using an intuitive and fluid mouse control system, Naija can deftly swim through and explore a massive, handcrafted world that is teeming with undersea life. Along the way, she will encounter literally hundreds of different types of plants and animals and explore many ingame miles of hidden caves, lost ruins, and other strange places.

As kids, we grew up playing the brilliant 2D action and roleplaying games of the time. With Aquaria, we've aimed to capture the excitement of those games in a new way, using updated technology, controls, and visuals. This is a game with a very personal touch, from the characters and story to the creature interaction and expansive environments.

Seamless, non-linear gameplay

In order to make the experience as engaging as possible, we created an interface that lets the player easily control Naija with just a two-button mouse. The HUD is minimal (restricted to only a minimap in the lower-right corner of the screen). In place of textual dialogue that most games rely on we used voice acting to drive the story without interrupting the gameplay.

Through a realtime interface, Naija can sing songs and cast spells without going to a menu screen. With practice, these spells can be cast easily to interact with the environment, solve puzzles, or combine them for strategic effect during combat. Certain spells will allow you to change form, creating new ways of playing the game depending on the form chosen.

Seven Kingdoms: Conquest is a Real Time Strategy game that explores 6,000 years of human history.
Its setting has a healthy twist of fantasy with hordes of demons attempting to invade the earth every 1,000 years
Its gameplay also offers some fresh new ideas to make battles more intense and exciting.

THE CAMPAIGN
The Campaign begins in the Middle East in 3000 B.C.
It progresses in 1,000 year increments to Europe in 1 A.D.
and then expands on a global scale as it reaches the modern eras from 2,000 A.D. onwards.
The story can be played from both sides - as the Demons or as the Humans.
The Human story is a tale of how an ancient secret society, known as the Illuminati, managed to preserve magic and knowledge throughout the ages in a seemingly endless struggle to help stop Demons invading our world every 1,000 years.
The Demon's story is quite different.
Demons are patient creatures.
It tells of how, once they discover Earth, they enact a long and arduous plan to rid the world of magic and miracles, so that they might capture us.

THE STORY
The story began in an age long past - an age before mankind had spread across the face of the world - an age before we had even learned to speak.

In a dimension far-removed from our own there dwelled a diverse race of creatures that we have come to know collectively as Demons. Their world was violent and cruel, full of raging fires and jagged fields of ice, where the very air was poison and would sear the lungs of a lesser being. Such a harsh realm bred feral and dangerous creatures and the Demons were the product of millions of years of evolution in this twisted place, always looking for new conquests, delighting in corruption and reveling in the slaughter of the weak and infirm.

There came a time however, when they were the undisputed rulers of their world. Lest they fall upon themselves, the greatest amongst them, Thoringrad Lord of Fire, conceived a plan. He created a number of magical stone boxes, each one ensorcelled so that only greed could open it, for as all Demons knew: Greed breeds Fear, and Fear is the greatest weapon that you can wield against an opponent, ensuring victory every time. He sent these boxes off into the ether that exists between worlds, and the Demons patiently waited for one of the boxes to be opened, that it might call to them across time and space.

In Egypt in 3,000 B.C., the Akkadians found one of these boxes. Their priests, being wise, took this unholy artifact and entombed it within a temple, but whether it was the magic of the box or just the nature of humankind, word soon spread out through the rising kingdoms of man.

By the time the rumors reached Pharaoh Akhon Luminatos of Egypt , they had grown to hint that this box contained the secrets of eternal life. Becoming obsessed by the thought of such power, Akhon gathered his forces and marched upon his neighbor – - his goal to pull the temples of Akkadia apart stone by stone, to find this box, and to gaze upon its secrets...
