Since existence of alternate solutions are perceived an RPG trait, their presence in other genres is unlikely.

Note that this should not be considered as the choice of which problem to solve, but rather how to solve that problem.

The choice here is not which weapon/unit you use to to accomplish the task either, unless the unit requires significantly different way to deal with the problem. It is best to not consider these as alternate solutions.
