This is common when the game attempts to achieve some level of realism but does not want to bother the player with additional controls.

For example:
* A helicopter automatically lowers a hook or similar with which to raise the item on board.

Commonly this is used with vehicles that use some grappling hook style towing mechanism on any nearby items.
