Alternate name: Sound localization

Note that sound localization is natural trait of all organic beings with ears or capacity to detect sound waves, thus this may not require actual tool in most games though such make the visual cues excusable. However, video games are generally available on systems with sound systems that inadequately reproduce distance and direction to sounds. This tag refers to additional visual cues to locating the source of the sounds, regardless of what those visual cues are.

Current home systems only cover horizontal audio and that by approximating it via 2 to 6 speakers around the listener, with nothing covering vertical space.
