9 de 10***Overall a nice turn-based tactical game, but might not be really up to one's expectations if you go looking for another of the old XCOM games. In short, this new XCOM game is extremely simplified and cut down version of the old X-COM with great number of features missing with only a few new ones to its name.

For those familiar with old XCOM, here's a list of differences. Notably there's missing multiple bases for the player to operate, aliens do not set up bases (there's only one alien base in the game), alien craft activity is barely existing (~13 alien craft encountered before the game was over), terror missions and similar do not involve actual enemy craft going to the sites, your soldiers can't pick up enemy gear during missions, grenades and rockets are special one-use gear instead of actual inventory items, inventory overall is severely simplified to a point where its limitations don't make sense, the game does not simulate projectile trajectories except for missed shots destroying scenery (missed shots can no longer hit secondary targets) and auto/burst fire is treated as single shot in terms of hitting or not, as such cover is simply statistical wonder instead of literal cover (shots "penetrate" the cover - with no damage to the cover - when they hit the soldier hiding behind it rather than hitting exposed bits), alien craft interception relies on one-use power ups you need to craft (though they go largely unused), aliens do not attack XCOM base(s), you can only have one skyranger hence you're specifically forbidden to complete missions that appear "simultaneously" with others (you have to choose one, the others automatically fail, their timing and duration essentially synced), interceptor and skyranger management is simplified, chrysalids and robotic aliens can not be captured and studied, aliens do not have jobs (there's only one live specimen of each species to interrogate and beyond that, nothing), battle scanner is missing, arbitrary range limitations to weapons (not allowed to shoot if target is beyond certain range), incendiary weapons are missing, stun grenades are missing, quite a few alien species are missing, levels tend to be far smaller and streamlined (with very few exceptions), action points have been replaced with simplified version that has glaring limitations, soldiers have 360 degree vision, reloading and shooting in same turn is impossible, ammunition is handwaved away completely, aliens do not have morale, taking aliens alive has little far less use, and probably quite a few other things. New features, for those that care: upgrade system accessible via the foundry, psychic damage ability, classes, class perks, two-point system, and probably some others.

Personally I think this new XCOM is good game, but just does not hold up to what the old X-COM games were about. If you want the old experience, you're better off with the old games, UFO: Extraterrestrials, UFO: Aftermath/-shock/-light, or the many fan-made remakes.

Note that I played the game through on "classic" difficulty (the one just below brutal), which may have had something to do with some of my poor opinions.***EAN-13:
5 026555 056151
(European/Worldwide)***

The Sims 3 Electronic Arts (EA Redwood Shores)2009Way worse than Sims 2, with only a city that is terrain-fixed, and with the control of only ONE family for the sake of neighborhood aging (good concept, but stupid for a shared computer or when you simply want to play many different families)

7 de 10***Although the base game concept is interesting as social simulation game, the game only includes one small town to play in and sell additional towns as microtransactions for about 25USD/20EUR (that's for single town), there's also other limitations which aren't as egregious as this. But I don't think I need to really go into detail on the game beyond this. It's a money milker for EA, but considering how successful the game has been, I rather question the players who actually fall for this rather than EA for doing it. I bought the game when it was discounted at "low" 15EUR price itself (from original 50EUR) and I can say that the game is hardly worth even that much. Maybe if it was like 10EUR with towns being 2EUR or so, I might consider it reasonable. There's also DLC expansions that cost the same as the base game itself.

Unfortunately popularity (or market hype?) of Sims series has made it pretty certain there won't be any serious competition, it also allows EA to continue producing inferior games for ridiculously high price.

As a game, it's decent I think, but in terms of value vs price, you're paying 100-1000 times more than you should be. Hence, don't buy any Sims games outside of significant (>60%) discounts.***The game seems to have a long standing non-critical bug where the game starts freezing every few minutes. According to some players this is likely related to pathing code where some NPC gets "stuck" and can't figure out how to get their stuff done as a result. There is no real fix for this besides starting a new game which obviously doesn't prevent an NPC from getting stuck again.***The freedom of The Sims 3 will inspire you with endless creative possibilities and amuse you with unexpected moments of surprise and mischief! The Precursors  Russobit-M;Game Factory Interactive (Deep Shadows)2009There's an unofficial patch for the western release that replaces a lot of the sounds with the ones from Russian release (also thus "adding" voices [rather, restoring their Russian voice-overs] for all characters rather than only very few of them) as well as fixing certain issues.

This patch is also available as free DLC on Beamdog in case you got the game from them.***Precursors, predecessors, the legend of the galaxy... Who among the existing races are carrying their genes?
The worlds of the galaxy are beautiful, unique and dangerous. Some of them are inhabited, some are deserted, some lie in ruins, others are just smugglers trans-shipment stations.
Some worlds are at the beginning of their evolution, other are falling into decay. Only when you'll pass through all of these worlds, when you'll feel the heat of blazing lava-seas and the chilling cold of dark abysses, when you'll see stark heavens and red skies, you will realize the real power of nature. Only when you'll meet corrupt judges, mendacious politicians, unselfish protectors and cruel tyrants, you'll understand the passions of society. Only when you'll reach unexplored sectors of the galaxy and come across wonderful natural phenomenons, when you'll fly through the tail of a comet or dive into a mysterious portal, then you'll perceive the infinite depth and diversity of the universe.
Nobody knows what exactly this journey will comprise, but we can assure you that it will be unforgettable...

"Precursors" is a new project of Deep Shadows. The game action takes place in space and on the surface of various planets. The genre of the game is freeplay RPG with FPS and space sim combat elements.

"Precursors" and "White Gold: War In Paradise" are developed using the Vital Engine 3. It has shader 3.0 support and features various post rendering effects like HDR, motion blur and others. In comparison with the Vital Engine 2 the physics system has been improved and moreover, two of the main features of the engine are destructible objects, which will be found everywhere in the games, and support of one huge unified playing area.

You will fight your enemies in space as well as on the surface of various planets. You will be able to work for different factions and carry out their quests to earn money, which is quite essential for your hero. The money will give you the opportunity to buy new weapons, make technical upgrades or repair your damaged spaceship.

You can explore a planet's surface using a wide choice of different vehicles, but in space you will use only one ship which will be given to you at the beginning of the game. RPG stats will allows you to upgrade not only the personal characteristics of your hero but the technical abilities of your spaceship as well.

Sphere Of Influence author1998This concept fascinates me. There is a sever running the game. You view the result and command spacecraft in the game through a client presentation interface (Power Point type). The designer didn't invent an interface that exists in the game world by which to command, as most game of this type do. Rather he used an existing interface common to the OS/2 platform. Other games have the player controlling an unseen protagonist sitting in front of some far off highly advance imaginary computer. But this is as if you were actually commanding spacecraft with an OS/2 computer. You are using the computer you are using, not an imaginary one.***SOI is a game designed for the OS/2 presentation manager. It is a cross between a role playing game and a simulator. It runs under a client/server architecture whereby simulations are run by a server either independently or under the control of a game master. The simulations may be simple such as Star Trek's Kobayashi Maru scenario from Star Trek II, or as complex as an intergalactic scavenger hunt or multi-species interstellar war. Scenarios are designed with a separate scenario editor. The first release of SOI will be a single player version with the simulation controller (server) and client running on the same machine.

The player character has the role of ship captain in the Terrani Naval Forces. The captain must carry out missions designated by the simulation controller. For more information see the Captain's Indoctrination (to follow soon).

The SOI client is written in C++ and assembler and is fully object oriented. All game objects, characters, ships, planets, etc. derive from a base object and can be dragged and dropped in the various windows. This, for example, allows the player to drag an object to the Interstellar Navigation window and see its last reported location.

6 de 10***At its core, Space Pirates and Zombies is an action based, skill oriented, top down space combat game. It’s similar to the ones we knew and loved in years past, but now using full physics simulation and modern graphics for those oh so pretty explosions. But as you dig deeper, SPAZ becomes much more.

Instead of flying a single ship, you are in charge of an ever growing and evolving fleet, unlocking the rich tactical elements of SPAZ, all accessed at the touch of a button. Issue orders, change ships, apply fleet AI settings, all on the fly. At any moment the battle can change, and the Tactics Panel gives you the tools to make the battle turn in your favor.

As a layer on top of the action and tactics, we have a detailed technology and levelup system akin to what you would expect from an RPG. Learn to build new ships by destroying your enemies. Explore the galaxy to find components, use your hard earned research points to unlock their potential, and then customize every aspect of your new fleet.

Finally, there is the universe in which all this strife and adventure takes place. SPAZ features a persistent randomly generated Galaxy populated with story elements, factions, enemies, missions, items, to provide you with a unique experience each time you play. While you are struggling to survive, uncover the secret of an ever expanding Zombie infestation that spreads by establishing its own real time multi-tiered ecosystem.

Key features:
* 33 ships to research, build, outfit and pilot.
* 70 unique components to discover and customize your fleet’s performance.
* Totally physics based combat system.
* Fight Zombie infestations, battling a full zombie ecosystem comprising four stages of un-life.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl  THQ;GSC World Publishing (GSC Game World)2007On April 26, 1986, the world's worst nuclear accident occurred: Reactor 4 of the Chernobyl power station exploded, releasing clouds of radioactive matter. Soviet authorities established a 30km 'Exclusion Zone' around this nuclear wasteland, but in 2006 a second explosion rocked the stricken reactor, obliterating all living things and causing the Zone's boundaries to ripple outwards. From this epicentre came waves of mutated creatures, deadly radiation and strange, anomalous energy. The Zone was cordoned off by the military who would shoot on sight anyone foolish enough to brave the horrors within.

It is now 2012 - man has ventured further and further into the heart of the Zone driven by reports of strange 'artifacts' imbued with anomalous energy. Mercenaries and bounty hunters compete to recover these artifacts, which command extortionate prices on the black market. Others seek to find the truth behind the Zone, whilst some merely revel in the desolate lawlessness of the place. Whatever their motivation, over time these individuals - Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killer, Explorers and Robbers - have become known as S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s.

Awakening in the Zone, you are one such S.T.A.L.K.E.R., fighting for survival in this man-made Hell, whilst trying to discover the truth behind Chernobyl's sinister past and ominous future.

* An immersive storyline seamlessly blended with a living, breathing, non-linear open-world environment governed by the revolutionary 'A-Life' system
* Accurately modelled real-word buildings and locations from deep inside the Chernobyl exclusion Zone
* Unique 'Survival FPS' gameplay: Combines action, stealth, survival and RPG elements to create an incomparable experience in the Zone
* Enemy Threat Evaluation AI system: NPC characters react dynamically to environments and situations
* Brutally realistic combat mechanics - weapons display accurate ballistic properties and can be modified with silencers and telescopic scopes
* Dynamic day/night and weather system directly impacts gameplay
* Advanced physics and dynamic lighting effects powered by the proprietary 'X-Ray Engine'
* Intense multiplayer action, supporting up to 32 players

Year 2012. Six years passed since the time of the Second catastrophe to have made the April events of 1986 fade.

The game is set in the Chernobyl exclusion zone which turned from a destiny-breaker place into a threat to all mankind. The Zone is reluctant to open up its mysteries and needs to be forced to do it. It is a rare hero who can reach the very heart of the Zone onto find out what danger awaits him there.

A danger which, compared to marauders and enemy groupings, all monsters and anomalies, will seem a mere preparation to the meeting with something more fatal and threatening.

But for now... get ready, hero. Collect artefacts and trade, grope your path and keep an eye on the rear, catch roentgens and fight – only make sure you survive! And then, perhaps, if you are persistent and truly lucky, you will find out why all this had fallen on you.

Restricted Area Whiptail Interactive (Master Creating)2005Restricted Area is an action RPG with an accent on both action and RPG. On one hand, we want to bring you more action--this means the game plays faster, the controls are more direct, and you can even find some shooter elements. For example, you can switch between your weapons without entering the inventory. On the other hand, we try to be more RPG-like, and we developed a discussion system with real choices, a storyline with surprising twists, and a complex but easy-to-use attribute and skill system.

At the beginning of the game, four totally different characters meet each other in a downtown area. They have only one thing in common -- the need to start a new life. You choose the one you want to play as, and this choice determines the point of view you experience the story from. As the game's story develops, your character will be able to team up with a variety of other characters and fight against an evil company...

FEATURES

* Action-packed Cyber-Punk RPG which brings you into a dark and fascinating world compareable to Matrix and Bladerunner
* Four totally different characters with unique skills, each with a detailed back-story, progress independently through the same narrative; the story is revealed from various angles
* Complex roleplaying system: Each character has access to misc skills and to unique skills related to its characterization: 75 skills with 10 levels (750 skill levels in total). Uncountable number of weapons, Cyberware and Bioware to boost your abilities

Unlimited computer generated subquests and levels
