Dawn of War II  THQ (Relic Entertainment)2009It’s the 41st Millennium in the Sub-Sector Aurelia – a cluster of worlds on the edge of the galaxy – where a battle of epic proportions is about to commence. Ancient races will clash across the planets that dot this sector of space, battling for the greatest of stakes – not only for control of Sub-Sector Aurelia – but the fate of each race.

With a focus on fast-action RTS gameplay, Dawn of War II brings to life the science fiction universe of Warhammer 40,000 like never before. Experience the intimate brutality of battle as you play through your chosen race’s epic campaign. Clash with the enemies on battlefield ablaze with visceral melee and ranged combat. Lead and develop your squads from raw recruits into the most battle hardened veterans in the galaxy. Also included is The Last Stand, a co-operative game mode featuring user controlled heroes fighting waves of enemies.***Deviating a lot from the first Dawn of War, this RTS plays more like a tactical-action (Commandos) than a strategy game (even with is touches of Command and Conquer)

Pros:
-Great controls, even to seem easy to use many units in the field.
-Equipment and leveling up: brings some roleplay elements in the development of your team.
-Tyranids.
-3 game modes: campaign (Space Marines cleansing places), coop defense (pick your hero and prepare to withstands waves of enemies) and multiplayer (a mix between a hero RTS and a MOBA)

Cons:
-Too many times soldiers adopt stupid covers (like being in the two sides of a trench)

6 of 10***DoW2 is perhaps best defined as tactical RPG than strategy RPG, with RPG elements mostly covering only how good your characters are doing their stuff and the otherwise equipment based system. There's no role-playing to speak of, though.***Tagline: "Your slavery to the False Emperor ends today!"***Latest version: 2.2.0 (as of 2010-04-??)

Version history:
* 1.3.2 (2009-05-14)***Although the devs/publishers touted a lot about new approach to RTS with the title, the only thing I noticed to be truly new (for the type of RTS DoW2 is) was that your troops couldn't be killed for real. Few units (4 squads total in this case) to somewhat non-linear tactical missions have been done before, although none before in my experience are so lenient on the matter. Your squads can't be killed since only the squad leader is actually important and he can only be knocked unconscious. If all squads become unconscious, emergency evac is pulled and the squads and their leaders are back to full strength as if nothing happened. You lose the turn in the overworld meta-game with a lost battle, but that's hardly anything new. The squad leaders gain experience and level up occasioally, which can be spent on very few areas of interest, and they can be given new equipment which most of the time just makes them more powerful, resilient and generally more efficient.

Each map has several teleport beacons scattered around where squads can be re-inforced, 2 secondary objectives which can be completed, and the primary objective. These are invariably(?) placed at the 4 corners of the tactical map. You can perform multiple attacks on single turn if you perform sufficiently well in a battle, but this is usually unlikely on harder difficulty settings. Each map also holds a boss at the primary objective location who usually has 200 times (and more) as much health as the more regular units from the tougher end. On harder difficulty settings these become rather dreary as you spend most of the time resuscitating unconscious squad leaders and doing round-trips to teleport beacons for re-inforcements than actually fighting the bosses.

In conclusion, the base tactical gameplay is interesting like in any other tactical game, but all value is lost from the fact that you can practically never lose and success in missions is purely based on how well you manage to keep at least one squad conscious long enough to get the others back up, beyond that, all your great tactical plans are pointless except to reduce the number of times you need to get the squads back up.***2009-01-19 gone gold

Dead Island Techland;Deep Silver (Techland)2011An open sandbox zombie survival game with crafting (talking about fresh ideas) that brings both brute gory fun and great atmosphere.

Pros:
-Simple crafting-upgrade system.
-Stamina-reliant combat and movement.
-IA (specially for beings that hunt down brains)
-Drowning zombies.
-Leveling up with RPG-like characters and trees (Borderlands anyone?)

Cons:
-No animals.
-No use of extra weapons for repairing or carftfing.
-No swimming.
-Right seat wheel car.

6 of 10***Note that Dead Island does not strictly match Zombie Apocalypse genre as the zombie outbreak is limited to the island of Banoi with an excessive military quarantine making sure nothing goes in or out of there, thus the outbreak is sufficiently contained. However, none of the events in the game take place outside the containment area, giving it the overall appearance of zombie apocalypse without actually being it.***Terror. Violence. Madness. Bedlam. A holiday paradise gone mad. A tropical island turns into total chaos after a mysterious zombie outbreak. Cut off from the rest of the world, the player’s only chance to survive is to fight to the death and find a way to escape from the island.

Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to four players in co-op mode.

Set in an open world tropical island, hordes of different festering zombies await players around every corner while they embark on a variety of thrilling missions through the holiday resort. With firearms and ammunition being scarce the player must rely on utilizing found items as weapons for self-defense and fight off zombie hordes in intense melee combat. A diverse range of items can be collected and will later serve to transform the player’s ordinary makeshift weapons into serious instruments of destruction.

In addition to satisfying even the most bloodthirsty action fan’s fantasy, Dead Island also features role-playing elements which allow the player to develop one of the game’s unique character classes according to their preferences, all the while learning new skills and fresh tactics during their journey through the perilous environments of the island. What’s more, anytime during a game up to four players can seamlessly join together and experience the intense combat and immersive story with cooperative gameplay.

With the all-new Chrome Engine 5 powering Dead Island, the game will use the latest installment of Techland’s acclaimed proprietary game engine, allowing the player to experience the tropical island paradise in graphical splendor with diverse environments like lush forests and detailed city environments.

Key Features
* First-person melee combat
* 4-player coop
* Weapon customization
* Set on an gorgeous open world tropical island
* RPG elements for character development
* Hordes of gruesome zombies

Deus Ex: Human Revolution  Square Enix (Eidos Montreal;GRIP Entertainment)2011GRIP Entertainment handled development of the boss battles which explains how they are so distinctively dissimilar with the rest of the game.

---
Personally I think the game is quite good, and the major criticism from others seems to have been about the extremely dark setting (lack of lighting), but how many horror games do you see in brightly lit environs that still manage to scare you? I doubt any. Creep you out by weirdness, perhaps, but not scare you.

The only gripe I have about the game is that it relies all too much on scripted sequences to scare you, and the mob A.I. seems to be a bit too straightforward to give much challenge as it's quite easy to figure out and once that's done, most situations are ridiculously easy to handle, especially with the virtually infinite ammo you have (not that that's much a surprise as the place _is_ weapons research and manufacturing facility on top of everything else).***Minimum:

Epic Party-Based Combat – Dragon Age: Origins introduces an innovative, scalable combat system, as players face large-scale battles and use their party’s special abilities to destroy hordes of enemies and massive creatures. Experience and items gained in this underworld result in great powers and abilities above ground. Using magic, weaponry and skilled maneuvers, players command armies from varying races to control, protect - or destroy - the powerful Heart of Siberys. Obtaining this omnipotent artifact will unleash its full forces, good or evil, upon the entire world.

"Dragonshard is deliberately designed to do away with such slow-paced genre tropes in favour of spectacular action and a seamless, involving world."

Drug Wars  Paleo Entertainment2009In 3100 A.D., global warming has caused the sea level to rise and engulf the streets of Brooklyn. The land is gone, but society rebuilds the city on top of existing structures, connecting buildings through a network of sky bridges. As the upper class literally moves higher, law enforcement abandons the lower parts of the city, and its less-affluent inhabitants.

To meet the upper city's demand for laborers, city leaders contract the Brooklyn Institute of Technology (B.I.T.) to clone a new working class. At the time, the B.I.T. Labs had made incredible advances in cloning; Neanderthals were chosen as the main focus of the research based on their physical resilience. The city's contract called for far more Neanderthal clones than were required, causing the excess and sub-standard Neo-Neanderthals to be discarded to the dregs of the city. The well established mob entity known as the Merchants of Brooklyn saw a lucrative opportunity here... use the bottom dwellers for high stakes fights to the death. It became the new sport of under-city kings.

In MERCHANTS OF BROOKLYN, You take the role of an elite Neanderthal fighter with a taste for blood. Having had your arm unwillingly detached from your body courtesy of a chainsaw, your new prototype biomechanical arm transforms into different twisted and brutal weaponry to aid you in the slaughter. Your goal: escape from the under city and free your brethren to take over the upper utopian empire to do with as you please.

FEATURES

* Built using Crytek's CryEngine 2 game engine
* Biomechanical Arm enhances weapons in unique ways
* Destructible urban environments
* Truly unique comic book vs. reality art style
* Over-the-top dark humor and action
* Fully interactive, immersive environment
* Designed with multiplayer in mind

Duke Nukem Forever  Take-Two Interactive (Gearbox Software;Piranha Games;Triptych Games)2011Surfaced now and then between 1997-2010 or so, earning itself the status as the best known vaporware.***Un juego gamberro, soez y de acción y destrucción absurdas.

De todas formas: Hail to the king.

6 de 10***Contains references to at least the following games:
* Doom 3 (teleporting to hell remarks, and possibly the dead [doomed] space marine remark when you find Isaac's helmet)
* Dead Space (Isaac's helmet)
* Halo (Spartan power armor)
* Fallout New Vegas (defense of Hoover Dam and how the aliens can tap into it for limitless power or something)***The King is Back!

Cocked, loaded and ready for action, Duke delivers epic ass-kicking, massive weapons, giant explosions and pure unadulterated fun!

Put on your shades and step into the boots of Duke Nukem. The alien hordes are invading and only Duke can save the world. Pig cops, alien shrink rays and enormous alien bosses can’t stop this epic hero from accomplishing his goal: to save the world, save the babes and to be a bad-ass while doing it.

The King arrives with an arsenal of over-the-top weapons, non-stop action, and unprecedented levels of interactivity. With hours and hours of action, and a range of bodacious multiplayer modes, rest assured knowing the fun goes on and on.

Story
Did the Alien bastards not learn their lesson the first time? Duke has been on hiatus for some time now, kicking back and franchising himself on the fame he gained from saving Earth from the first invasion. The Aliens have returned to Earth yet again, messing up Duke’s sweet routine of dirty leisure habits.

The Alien invaders are stealing Earth’s women, especially the hot ones! And they drank Duke’s beer. This. Won’t. Stand. As Duke battles his way through waves of aliens, the once beautiful gambling haven and Duke Nukem franchise chains are crumbling before his eyes. Time to bring the pain!

Features
* Bust a Gut: Duke pulls no punches. Duke’s constant stream of hilarious one-liners throughout the game make this an out loud good time.
* World Interactivity: Spend as much time as you want shooting hoops, lifting weights, playing pinball, pool, air hockey, and slots.
* Scale & Variety: Packed with explosive FPS action, outlandish settings, driving, and puzzle solving — gamers will never tire of the endless FUN.
* Multiplayer Like No Other: Classic modes are re-made with a Duke twist. Dungeon Siege II  Microsoft Game Studios (Gas Powered Games)2005Like the original, DS2 fails to be exciting in any manner, even though I'm usually fan of RPGS and games where creatures explode in a colorful shower of blood. The game is so very simple and unchallenging for the most part that I'm half-asleep when I try to play it and when I wake up, I'm seeing this teleport screen caused by death as I'm sent back to nearest village, from where I have to run back to where I died, collect my worn equipment that were conveniently left there and resume. There's little if any challenge besides some boss creatures, the rest of the mobs die from simplest touch in gory shower of gibs. Effectively it's a shmup in the guise of an RPG.***Latest version: 2.2 (as of 2005-10?)***Comes on 5 CDs***Minimum requirements:

Dungeons Kalypso Media Digital (Realmforge Studios)2011A mighty hero stalks through a dark, dank dungeon making life miserable for hordes of pitiable monsters as he steals anything and everything not bolted to the floor. Been there, done that - about a thousand times? Then it is definitely time to switch sides and show that hero just who's who in the dungeon!

Assume the role of a mighty (and mighty evil) Dungeon Lord and create your own diabolical demesnes underground. Dim-witted goblin workers tremble as they await your orders and dig corridors and rooms into the rock at your command.

Heroes will visit your dungeon in search of battle and treasure. Naturally, you could always just annihilate them with a snap of your fingers. But isn't it more entertaining and deliciously evil to watch them attain their heart's desire - and then take take it ALL away?

So throw them a few treasures and some equipment, give them a couple of fights for entertainment and cherish and look after them. And once they are finally happy enough - it's time for the "harvest". For happy heroes have more valuable soul energy for you to gleefully extract from them in your prison or torture chamber!

But even though these self-proclaimed warriors for the good are not much more than an excellent source of resources for you, you still should not underestimate them. If you've beaten up too many of their friends, the powerful and vindictive Champions will occasionally make their way to your Dungeon. Perhaps a small sum could persuade them to forget their moral and ethical principles for once?

In addition to the heroes, you should also always keep an wary eye on the underground. For the competition never sleeps, and other Dungeon Lords would like to claim your territory for themselves. As if that were not enough, another Dungeon Lord lives one level below you who, to top it all off, is also your boss and bombards you with useless tasks! Of course, it goes without saying that malicious and sneaky beings such as yourself are already hard at work trying to take his place!

Story
The game revolves around Deimos, foremost of all Dungeon Lords. He falls victim to a devious plot hatched by his vile, nasty, thoroughly vicious ex-girlfriend Calypso, and suddenly finds himself at the bottom of the hierarchy and the top of the dungeon once again.

As the story proceeds Deimos tries to regain his old place and have his well-deserved revenge on Calypso. First, however, he will have to deal with his new bosses. On the one hand , there's the Zombie King, who is about as intelligent as your average undead zombie is likely to be, and on the other there's hot-blooded Minos, who likes to solve problems using violence or, alternatively, more violence.

Key features:
* Be insidious! Three different Boss Monsters await in order to give you a real hard time. Get rid of them to become the one and only Dungeon Lord!
* Get ready for a fight! 10 different classes of heroes dare to enter your dungeon where 15 different monsters lurk in the dark
* The 17 campaign missions demand your whole cunningness as evil dungeon lord. If you manage to survive them there's still the custom game waiting for you.
* In a dungeons there's only one way: going down. 3 different levels wait to be conquered by you.
* Prison cells and torture chambers are ready for your command and await "customers"
* Create the dungeon of your dreams with 50 different objects
* Wimpy goblin workers await your commands and create the dungeon after your wishes.***I'd claim this is [game=#164254]Dungeon Keeper 3[/game] if I didn't know better.

A vague cross over of Dungeon Keeper 2, Overlord, and some obscure tower defense where you yourself need to kill all the foes personally.

Perhaps best way to describe Dungeons is that it's a Theme Park of Evil where everyone who is enjoying themselves (too much) or is trying to leave gets killed. Everything you build is to entertain the heroes while making sure they die before they leave or are completely satisfied (in which case some heroes just use town portal spell and disappear before you can intercept their escape).

Cast powerful magic learned from the dark business warlocks of the school of Necronomiconomics, or summon the Viking Runes of your ancestors to blast your foes with thunder and lightning! Discover the power that can be had by wielding a bizarre armament of devastating weaponry such as the Interdimensional Axe, the Plastic Ring, and the Invisible Shield (if you can remember where you left it). Wield shoes decorated by the Dwarven Glittersmiths, all of whom have now committed suicide because of their shame, and embrace the joys of destroying giant moustache-wielding brick demons with a mace decorated with tawdry, delicious bacon.

While you’re at it, be prepared to die. A lot. In hideous, screaming pain that makes you throw your keyboard out the window.

Dwarfs!?

7 de 10, ahora sé que los enanos se generan de jarra en jarra.***Dwarfs!? offers an addictive, fast paced arcade-like experience, with plenty of difficulty levels and game modes to play, in the tradition of great games such as "Lemmings" and "Dwarf Fortress."

Moving freely between fabulously scenic and diverse game areas, players do battle in command of smaller, potent parties of heroes wielding both magical and fighting skills, in a truly interactive role-playing environment. The course of events unrolls with fatal speed to carry player away to dazzling adventure full of treacheries and guile snares. Fallout 3  Bethesda Softworks (Bethesda Game Studios)2008A spin and rebirth of the saga, brings back a desolate atmosphere but in FPS-packed-action; neverless, the VATS compensates incredibly for the turn-system action.
Sadly, the story empowers epicness over good story, with immortal characters an black/white characters in general (there are exceptions)
But is important for being the predecessor of Fallout: New Vegas, who is better in every way possible and retakes the old developers of Fallout 1 and 2.

Yet one fateful morning, you awake to find that your father has defied the Overseer and left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you've ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father, and the truth.

V.A.T.S. allows you to pause time in combat, target specific body parts on your target, queue up attacks, and let Vault-Tec take out your aggression for you. Rain death and destruction in an all-new cinematic presentation.
* Mind-Blowing Artificial Intelligence! – At Vault-Tec, we realize that the key to reviving civilization after a global nuclear war is people. Our best minds pooled their efforts to produce an advanced version of Radiant AI, America's First Choice in Human Interaction Simulation. Facial expressions, gestures, unique dialog, and lifelike behavior are brought together with stunning results by the latest in Vault-Tec technology.
