Note: I personally found the game ran best with 192 MB RAM total or more, as at 128 MB it occasionally stopped to load new data in some certain "load spots".***Id Software and Raven Software joined forces again to expand the Heretic and HeXen universe in a bold new direction. Powered by the Quake engine, HeXen II was developed from 1996 to 1997 on a brutal production schedule, published by Id Software and distributed by Activision Inc.

One of the most highly anticipated releases of 1997, HeXen II was the first game from an outside developer to ship with Quake engine technology. The game featured four single player hubs and deathmatch capabilities for 16 players while simultaneously offering four character classes, each with four weapons with dual fire modes for a total of 32 unique weapon effects. In addition, HeXen II was the first 3-D shooter to feature transparent water effects in both hardware and software rendering modes and one of the only fully 3-D games to feature single player cooperative gameplay.

HeXen II was a smash hit for Raven Software and was revered by many as one of the most artistically beautiful computer games ever made.
[Raven]***this is the only game aside from Quake that I know of that uses Quake 1's engine. It is a very worthy sequil of the original Hexen. This one takes you to yet another world to battle the third and final Serpent Rider as one of four heros (Paladin, Crusader, Assassin or Necromancer). The graphics are wonderful, espically the use of colors and the amazingly detailed maps. This is the game Quake should have been.

[84]***Half-Life Deathmatch: Source is a recreation of the first multiplayer game set in the Half-Life universe. Features all the classic weapons and most-played maps, now running on the Source engine.

(Source standalone multiplayer/deathmatch mode)***Winner of over 50 Game of the Year awards, Half-Life set new standards for action games when it was released in 1998. Half-Life: Source is a digitally remastered version of the critically acclaimed and best selling PC game, enhanced via Source technology to include physics simulation, enhanced effects, and more.

(Source Remake Half-Life)***Named Game of the Year by over 50 publications, Valve's debut title blends action and adventure with award-winning technology to create a frighteningly realistic world where players must think to survive. Also includes an exciting multiplayer mode that allows you to play against friends and enemies around the world.

[53]***The gifted son of the love triangle between Wolf3, Doom and Quake.

Having a Steam account without Half-Life is as absurd as a Spanish omelet without eggs or potatoes.

Absolutely essential, recommended therapy against claustrophobia, arachnophobia, boredom and addiction to Wolverine clone shooters.

It is recommended not to touch the microwave.

Valve's greatest masterpiece to date.

10 out of 10***There's two versions of this game (also of Blue Shift and Opposing Force) out, one uses the original GoldSrc engine, and another which was ported to the newer Source engine with very few (barely notable) changes to how the game appears or works.***Minimum:

* 133 MHz Pentium CPU
* 24 MB RAM

* Keyboard***Listed as Game of the Year by nearly all (if not all) of the major gaming publications, this first person shooter is excellently done. From the gripping story, to the wonderfully scripted AI, this game will have even hard core gamers coming back for more. Many people complain about the late game "jumping torture" areas, but all in all this is a wonderfully designed game that raises the bar for all games to come.

Also, it offers a graphics and AI engine that is hugely editable, allowing a vast number of Single Player and Multiplayer mods. To date, no game has matched its appeal or sales figures: and still it tops nearly every list of games.

X-COM: Terror from the Deep  2K Games (Microprose Software)1999The war continues... X-COM: UFO Defense brought you to a galactic battlefield. X-COM: Terror from the Deep brings the alien terror into a totally new dimension.

Seeking to take advantage of a weakened Earth, X-COM's deep space foes unexpectedly change strategy and launch a powerful second front against planet Earth.

Slowly but surely, an army of hibernating alien sea creatures awakens. Your combat now extends to the strange new worlds of the deep where superior alien technologies threaten the very survival of this planet - your planet - Earth.***[Spanish]

Like System Shock 1, there will be persistent levels (i.e., drop an item on one level, and you could go back later to retrieve it), gameplay elements like logs, inventory, skills, persistent world, leaning, hacking, RPG elements, multiple weapons and enemies, and a compelling storyline. Unlike most other first person shooters, the purpose of System Shock was not to kill everything in sight; nor was it a "find the key to move onto the next level" game. This game takes strategy to new depths as elves, beasts, knights, and creatures of the darkness are locked in an epic battle for survival.

In the world of Exigo, where peace and prosperity have reigned for years, the empires of man and beast faces their greatest threat yet. A sinister force known as The Fallen has awaken to strike where the inhabitants of this world least expect - from underground.

Users will take control of massive armies, wage wars in the forests and river valleys of the surface, then descend into the caverns and catacombs of the underworld to face off against the dark evil.

Armies on all sides will have the ability to delve deep underground to travel unseen by foes or borrow up to the surface to unleash powerful attacks on unsuspecting enemies. The gamer must devise never before deployed strategies for combat and defense as attacks can come from all directions.

Conquer as the heavily fortified Empire and control an army of knights, dwarves, elves and gnomes. Ravage the plains with the nomadic Beasts, leading tribes of ogres, trolls and other fantastic creatures. Emerge from deep to consume the world of light with The Fallen – a powerful force of dark elves, fallen warriors, swarming insects and other horrific creatures of the dark.

Engage in an epic three-part single player campaign and save the world of Exigo from the evil that threatens to plunge the world into darkness. Or go online for massive multiplayer skirmishes with up to eight players striving to conquer the surface and underworld. Success can only be achieved through a balance of military might and strategic alliances.

Universe at War also introduces numerous innovative new multiplayer features inspired by today's top MMOs and competitive online games, giving players achievements, rewards, and medals in a balanced environment with intelligent matchmaking.

* 1.01 (?)***Not as great as I expected, and the driving around in Mako is horrible most of the time as well as the final bit of the ending just makes me feel sickly. My recommendation is, if you want to enjoy this game, stick to the main story and avoid any side exploration/quests completely, and try to bear the last bit of the ending (the parts where humans talk). Replayability comes mostly from dialogs as otherwise the game gets quite dull, and unfortunately you need those dialogs to progress your renegade/paragon ranks to open the more interesting dialog choices since these are separate from your regular leveling and skills.***Free expansions:

Risen Deep Silver (Piranha Bytes)2009Un juego de acción/RPG que combina bastante bien la exploración y un ligero plataformeo con combates de corte sencilla.

Notable las diferentes reacciones de los diversos enemigos (agresivos, territoriales...)

7 sobre 10***The game left me feeling it was incomplete and that the main plot had a lot to be desired of. The side quests were however fairly entertaining and far better (and time consuming) than the main plot, giving this a bit of an impression on Elder Scrolls series which also thrives from side-quests rather than the main plot.

However, unlike most RPGs ever, player can actually fight and defeat end-game opponents fairly early on as combat is mainly based on player skill rather than numbers (attributes, statistics, etc.), though due to lacking numbers these will take a bit more time. Even the final boss is beatable with fairly low level character (maybe as low as 10) since it's not that dependent on player having any numerical advantages. Levels mainly making combat go faster because you deal more damage and makes mistakes more forgiving, but they don't really help you fight the enemy, since levels do not make you immune to shield breaks, enemy dodging, or cause you to dodge automatically.

Overall this is fairly enjoyable game, but loses most of its appeal once you have nothing else than the main plot to do (around chapter 2 or 3). The ending is also disappointing as it does not really solve the original issue at all. Variety of smaller bugs can make the game experience jarring and the jest spell not having any effect it is claimed to have (beyond making characters laugh) despite frequent claims that it does, does make the game feel rushed.***An epic story in an authentic world hand-crafted with an eye for detail and populated by "real", plausible characters. A Mysterious Volcanic Island The heavy tremors on the island bode ill for its inhabitants. Ancient temples have risen from the ground recently, bizarre creatures are terrorising the area. They send an exhibition to this remote island, but a storm takes hold of the ship and destroys it at sea. A Hero Will Come - As if by a miracle, the player survives the shipwreck and is stranded on the volcanic island alone. He finds himself amidst a chaos of rebellion, tyranny and mystic rituals. On the fringes of known space, something is silently abducting entire human colonies. Now Shepard must work with Cerberus, a ruthless organization devoted to human survival at any cost, to stop the most terrifying threat mankind has ever faced.

To even attempt this perilous mission, Shepard must assemble the galaxy’s most elite team and command the most powerful ship ever built. Even then, they say it would be suicide. Commander Shepard intends to prove them wrong.

Just like in the previous game, what you say to the other characters matters a great deal. Fortunately, the conversation system has been improved. The camera now pans around characters as they talk to one another to evoke a dramatic, cinematic feel. Also, Shepard can interrupt the conversation when given the appropriate prompt, taking situations into new directions that could help or hinder the mission.

Shepard is more customizable than ever, letting you create your ideal lead character — gender, facial features, class, and of course, attitude. Once you embark on missions, you’ll be treated to an improved battle system that lets you target weak points and blast off your enemy’s limbs with a variety of weapons.

Set out to lead your team to victory... or die at the hands of The Collectors. Either path is possible in BioWare’s smash hit, Mass Effect 2. Which destiny will you choose?***

Nunca "Shepard" dijo tanto

7 de 10***Besides removing pretty much everything that was bad about ME1, ME2 has some other improvements besides that. Though I did miss driving with the Mako on the planet with the Thorian, I'm still glad planetary surveys had been simplified to manual scanner sweeps over the old drive around with the Mako till you find something of interest. The game's RPG elements have been simplified, as most weapon skills no longer exist, and the ones that exist are temporary boosts or similar. Biotics were largely unchanged, though some new powers were added. A unique(?) feature was introduced with every single skill branching on the last (fourth) level into two alternatives that give various benefits. Otherwise the game remains largely the same, though there's almost none of the tedious running "quests" ME1 had on the Citadel. The locations you visit are much smaller, but generally speaking more unique. You won't feel like you're visiting the same place for the thousandth time unless you really are. That comes obviously with the cost that there's less optional things to do besides scanning planets for minerals, though I didn't bother to scan any more than was necessary (which probably left well over two thirds of the systems unexplored).

To summarize: ME2 is better in almost all aspects I could care about in ME1's sequel, was somewhat amazed at this achievement myself.***Minimum:

The Ball Tripwire Interactive (Teotl Studios)2010A clever puzzle/action-adventure game with heavy emphasis on puzzling and combat using the titular ball. The story is obviously slapped on top as beyond finding the ball, why the protagonist keeps going for miles and miles underground, dropping down immensely deep chutes with no way back and so forth is beyond comprehension and the initial curiosity one can blame on him being archeologist hardly explains why he doesn't just study what he finds and stick around the hole he fell in through to wait for the promised rescue (which he seemingly could've relied on quite easily).

Orcs Must Die!

Conquest of Elysium III  Illwinter Game Design2012Conquest of Elysium 3 is an old school turn based fantasy strategy game. You start by choosing one of 17 different characters, e.g. Necromancer, Demonologist, Dwarf Queen, Troll King or maybe a High Priestess of Ba'al. The different character classes vary wildly in what special abilities they have and what parts of the world they should focus on conquering. E.g. the Demonologist needs sacrifices that you gain from towns and villages, but the Druid want special herbs that are found in forests. But of course gold is always good to have, so all classes can make use of a gold or silver mine, but only the Enchanter can make a Gold Golem out of it.

The Witch can use fungus to summon a Catoblepas whose gaze can annihilate an entire row of enemies per turn. The Demonologist can summon powerful demon lords, but only if he is reckless because the likelihood of a demon lord attacking his summoner is quite high. Careful Demonologists make use of the lesser summoning that are also powerful when compared to mortal men. The Warlock can summon an immortal Phoenix. The Phoenix explodes when it dies and then swiftly reforms in the home citadel of its owner. In short the main thing about this game is the amount of features and special abilities that can be used.

Here is a list of some features that are available in CoE 3.
* Many monsters and many special abilities. Some examples right below.
* Assassins that make an assassination attack before combat starts.
* Catapults, Hill Giants and Rocs that can throw or drop boulders during sieges.
* Immortal Liches and Vampires.
* Regenerating trolls rise from the dead if they haven't been killed too badly or their side lost.
* Large worms that can swallow smaller enemies whole. Swallowed units take a few points of damage from digestion each round until they are freed.
* And many many more monsters....
* New weapon system, attacks are divided into pierce, slash or blunt damage (magic attacks have other types too). Skeletons are difficult to injure with piercing weapons and you should preferably use slashing weapons against treemen, etc.
* Hotseat and network support for multiplayer games.
* Team play, you can be 2 players against the AI for example.
* Random maps.
* 17 different classes to choose from. And they are quite different from each other, both in what resources they need and what kind of rituals or special abilities they have.
* Spell system with currently 42 magic paths.
* Magic items.
* Permanent battle afflictions.
* Horrors.
* Stealth and invisibility. Scouts needed to detect stealthy troops, something better (a star spawn or a beast bat will work) needed to detect the invisible ones.
* Shape changers that looks like something else when seen by the enemies.

9 de 10.***What is Legend of Grimrock?
* Old-school dungeon crawling game inspired by Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder and Ultima Underworld.
* Explore a vast dungeon riddled with hidden switches, pressure plates, sliding walls, trapdoors and more.
* Discover secrets, cast spells with runes and craft potions with herbs.
* Fight murderous monsters and seek lost artifacts in ancient tombs.
* Create a party of four characters and customize them with different races, classes, skills and traits.

Legend of Grimrock is a dungeon crawling role playing game with an oldschool heart but a modern execution. A group of prisoners are sentenced to certain death by exiling them to the secluded Mount Grimrock for vile crimes they may or may not have committed. Unbeknownst to their captivators, the mountain is riddled with ancient tunnels, dungeons and tombs built by crumbled civilizations long perished now. If they ever wish to see daylight again and reclaim their freedom the ragtag group of prisoners must form a team and descend through the mountain, level by level.

The game brings back the oldschool challenge with highly tactical real-time combat and grid-based movement, devious hidden switches and secrets as well as deadly traps and horrible monsters. Legend of Grimrock puts an emphasis on puzzles and exploration and the wits and perception of the player are more important tools than even the sharpest of swords could be. And if you are a hardened dungeon crawling veteran and you crave an extra challenge, you can arm yourself with a stack of grid paper and turn on the Oldschool Mode which disables the luxury of the automap! Are you ready to venture forth and unravel the mysteries of Mount Grimrock?

Dark Souls  Namco Bandai (From Software)2012Drift bags and vagrants are one of the most obscure mechanics of the game. Drift bags are dropped items that are randomly transported to another player's world where they can be picked up, if they aren't picked up they get transported again. Once the drift bag has been transported enough many times, it turns into a vagrant, a rare enemy that spawns in no other way. Vagrants if undefeated will be transported to other players' worlds much like the drift bags.***The game's story is about the waning Age of Fire which the player can help continue or end, the waning of the age also is the cause of the undead curse when Gwyn kindled the First Flame with his essence. Letting the Age of Fire end would bring about Age of Dark (a.k.a. Age of Humanity), but considering how Dark Souls (a.k.a. human souls) are prone to bad things and generally the world's bleak presentation of humans, this would probably be about as bad thing as the previous age or worse.

How bad humans and Dark Souls are or can be is especially shown in Artorias of the Abyss expansion (which is included in the Windows port of the game), though the information gained there can be somewhat misleading. The Abyss appeared because the pygmy went insane, not because it was natural thing to happen with Dark Souls, and the Abyss corrupted Artorias and the Oolacile. Many players seem to assume this is the natural progression for what happens with Dark Souls unfortunately.***With a moody and almost grimterror atmosphere and lore that would make even H.P.Lovecraft shiver a little, a simple but very customizable character development and a gameplay that is hard and "unfair", bringing back the "trial and error" progress system of classical arcade games, this game is simply a jewel of RPG-action goodness.

Sadly, this version is a poorly done port from the console version, almost forcing to be played by handheld control (keyboard + mouse is horribly designed and also missing keybinding for some actions), and the camera feels clunky, slow and very dependant of player panning/autolock.

8 of 10***Dark Souls is an upcoming action role-playing game from the developers who brought you Demon’s Souls, FromSoftware. Dark Souls will have many familiar features: A dark fantasy universe, tense dungeon crawling, fearsome enemy encounters and unique online interactions. Dark Souls is a spiritual successor to Demon’s, not a sequel. Prepare for a new, despair-inducing world, with a vast, fully-explorable horizon and vertically-oriented landforms. Prepare for a new, mysterious story, centered around the King’s Crowns and the original, now dying flame at the center of the world. But most of all, prepare to die. You will face countless murderous traps, countless darkly grotesque monsters and several gargantuan, supremely powerful demons and dragons. You must learn from death to persist through this unforgiving world. And you aren’t alone. Dark Souls allows the spirits of other players to show up in your world, so you can learn from their deaths and they can learn from yours. New to Dark Souls is Beacon Fire, where you can share the experiences of your adventure with the spirits of other players. Around the Beacon Fire, you may find the only warmth and calm that exists in this dark world. Beware: There is no place in Dark Souls that is truly safe. With days of game play and an even more punishing difficulty level, Dark Souls will be the most deeply challenging game you play this year. Can you live through a million deaths and earn your legacy?

New Content
Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will include an untold chapter in the world of Lordran where the player must stop the spread of darkness at all costs by facing and defeating the Dark Knight Artorias.

* New Bosses – Including Artorias of Abyss, Chimera of Tomb, and more
* PVP Online Matchmaking System – Quick matching for co-op or PVP
* New Areas – Including Oolacile Tomb, Old Ruins and more
* New Enemies – Including Abyss Guard, Chained Prisoner and more
* New NPCs – Including Hawkeye Gough and more
* New Weapons and Armor – Equip some from the new bosses, enemies, and NPCs

Key features:
* Extremely Deep, Dark & Difficult – Unforgiving in its punishment, yet rewarding for the determined – learn to strategize freely and conquer seemingly impossible challenges.
* Fully Seamless World – Explore a completely integrated world of dark fantasy where dungeons are seamlessly intertwined, with great height.
* Mastery Earns Progression – Contains 60 hours of gameplay, with nearly 100 uniquely despair‐inducing monsters & an incredibly nuanced weaponry & magic spells system. Player success depends on their eventual mastery of how and when to use the magic spells, choice of armor, the number of weapons, the types of weapons, and the moves attached to the weapons.
* Network Play – Players may cross paths with one another, interacting with each other throughout the game even as each player plays their own game.
* Flexible Character Development & Role Play – As the player progresses, they must carefully choose which of their character’s abilities to enhance as this will determine their progression style.
* Community – See other real players and empathize with their journey, learn from seeing how others died, find and leave messages for your fellow players; helping them or leading them into death.
* Symbolic of Life & Hope – The Beacon Fire is an important feature of Dark Souls for many reasons. Though in gameplay it serves as a recovery and re‐spawn point for players whose health gets low and is the one place in the dark world where players can find a fleeting moment of warmth and calm.***

7 de 10******It is the year 2034.

Beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro, the remnants of mankind are besieged by deadly threats from outside – and within. Mutants stalk the catacombs beneath the desolate surface, and hunt amidst the poisoned skies above.

But rather than stand united, the station-cities of the Metro are locked in a struggle for the ultimate power, a doomsday device from the military vaults of D6. A civil war is stirring that could wipe humanity from the face of the earth forever.

As Artyom, burdened by guilt but driven by hope, you hold the key to our survival – the last light in our darkest hour...

Key Features:
* A gripping, story-driven first person shooter, Metro: Last Light is the hugely anticipated sequel to 2010’s critically acclaimed cult classic Metro 2033
* Experience thrilling combat with an exotic arsenal of hand-made weaponry against deadly foes – both human and mutant – and use stealth to launch attacks under the cover of darkness
* Explore the post-apocalyptic world of the Moscow Metro, one of the most immersive, atmospheric game worlds ever created
* Fight for every bullet and every last breath in a claustrophobic blend of survival horror and FPS gameplay
* Next generation technology boasting stunning lighting and physics sets a new graphical benchmark on both console and PC
* Wage post-apocalyptic warfare online, as Last Light delivers an intense multiplayer experience amongst the dark Russian ruins

7 de 10***The year is 1962 and the Cold War has the nation gripped by fear. A top-secret government unit called The Bureau begins investigating a series of mysterious attacks by an enemy more powerful than communism. As agent Carter, call the shots, pull the trigger and lead your squad in a gripping third-person tactical shooter set within a covert war to protect humanity from an otherworldly enemy.***The plot has a tragic logical fallacy about the Bureau performing a complete erasing of the truth of what happened, except the invasion was global and they had no control over what happened in other countries and the amount of secrecy they held over the event (likely poor/none in several), yet it's said no evidence of the invasion was left to the public.

3 de 10***Redshirt is the comedy sci-fi sim about social networking aboard a space station, starring the station's most ambitious low-ranking peon: you! Navigate the professional and interpersonal politics of the ubiquitous "Spacebook" to curry favor among friends and colleagues. As intense intergalactic conflict rages around you, it's up to you to accrue those all-important "likes" on your status updates! Whether you're looking for love, opportunities for promotion, or even a chance to play Zero-G golf with the captain, you can schmooze your way through social circles and claw your way up the career ladder. Perhaps you too can finally achieve the dream of an off-station transfer, or even the Redshirt's opportunity of a lifetime: being sent on an away-mission!***In short, this is Star Trek parody fangame.***
