BOH author1999The game claims it isn't a shooter, and although it has significant elements besides shooting, most of the time is spent actually shooting an endless stream of enemies that is quite clearly pointed out to be endless. The game suggests ignoring the enemies and just exploring, but this makes it impossible to actually win the game since the enemies are so numerous and there aren't that many health pickups to deal with them.***BOH is a unique retro-flavoured puzzle-riddled maze game spiced up with thrilling action.
You move in claustrophobic, mysterious, dangerous battlefields searching for the Evil Masters, who throw countless enemies at you until you discover and face them in the final battle. Although your quests are made slightly less hard by the power-ups scattered all around, carrying out the missions demands lots of concentration and quick reflexes.

With BOH the fun never ends: new missions can be added anytime and you can even create your own! And, as if that was not enough, you can also customize entirely its audio-visual aspect!

BOH has been created with lots of passion and care to offer, with its oldschool style, a fascinatingly different videogaming experience.

Ys I & II Chronicles+  Nihon Falcom;XSEED Games (Nihon Falcom)2001Chronicles+ is an updated English translated version by XSEED that is not exactly the same as the earlier Complete version, bringing updates from the PSP Chronicles port back to PC, but for the most part it's identical (so much so that it's pointless to have it separate).

Chronicles+ has option to play the original 2001 Complete version and the 2009 Chronicles version, selected when new game is started.***A remake of Ys Eternal I & II with updated graphics. Also released as separate games in 2002, then released again as one package in 2005...

Flatspace Cornutopia Software2003Flatspace is a space trading and flight simulation. The ultimate objective in the game is to locate and assemble parts of a galactic hyperdrive, however there is a lot of freedom for the player and as a space captain, you can explore, decide what you want to do and how you want to play.

To make a profit, you could opt to trade cargo between eerie space stations, or become a space pirate and steal cargo. You can join the police force, or become a bounty hunter and track and destroy the most wanted criminals in the galaxy. You can mine asteroids, act as a high speed courier or taxi paying customers from sector to sector.

Flatspace aims to be the most comprehensive game of it's type and feels like a simulation, while retaining a fast paced arcade feel to the combat. The graphics are fully 3D and use the HECToR 3D engine to generate spectacular effects. Additional language versions will be made available as soon as possible.***Latest version: 1.09 (as of ?)

Dinosaurs will die after a while if either is missing for too long. Possibly a factor with the tourists as well, but only to keep them at the park longer.
npc anxiety/fear — seen if a dinosaur breaks free from their containment area (this affects the tourists) or if two different dinosaurs (specifically a carnivore and herbivore or large carnivore with smaller carnivore) are forced to be too close to each other. The dinosaurs may try to avoid the carnivore so much that they can't stave their hunger and eventually starve to death unless the carnivore ends up killing them (is that even possible here? didn't witness it, but hypothetically it could happen). To prevent this, you can either provide separate holding areas for the dinos or large enough single area for them to prowl so they can keep their distance naturally. The latter is obviously much harder set up and maintain, but the game does provide sufficient mechanisms to attempt it.***Latest version: retail.

2007-07-20
- available via Steam***Life isn't easy when you're a 12 pound ball of tar.

You can make GISH sticky, slick, heavy, and somewhat alter his shape to jump, overcome enemies and obstacles. GISH, Gameplay and the environment is entirely based as on physics and are destructible. 57 levels, plus secret levels.

There is also a 2 player verses mode in 5 hostile environments. 2 balls of tar can't really hurt each other, but if one of 'em falls into a lake of lava, touches an open flame, or gets squished under a anvil, that's gonna hurt.

Requires Win98+, AMD/Intel 1GHz, 256MB RAM, 32MB OpenGL card. Recomended 4-button gamepad.

Keys of the Kingdom Left Behind Games2004This is an ok puzzle game. Difficulty progression is good. But the 100 levels it comes with are the whole game. No level editor, no DLC. Something I would expect as an NES game (but with 16-bit quality). The voice-overs are high quality and numerous. More sound effects than are to be expected from a puzzle game. The 11 medieval style classical guitar ogg files (seemingly DRM-free) installed with the game are worth well more than the ninety-nine cents I spent on the game (I'd up to say $6 is fair). The Scriptures shown between levels (that can be skipped after a few seconds) seem to bear no connection at all to each puzzle (or even the game itself). Sir Lancelot and his horse offer a few seconds of entertainment and are terribly underused for this purpose. There is also many missed opportunity concerning the story. Sir Lancelot making his way to appeal to the King who has, under terrible advice, forbidden private ownership of land. This has huge connotations concerning the subjects of property, authority, history. They present Sir Lancelot as the not-so-heroic character of the Arthurian tales. But are merely poking fun at the character, not actually revealing any of his flaws as shown in the original material. The situation brings to mind Martin Luther appealing to the Pope when opposed by the Pope's bishops (among other authorities). Also what the Holy Bible has to say about property ownership. And the history of England when Nordic kings imposed Forest Law (i.e. the king owns everything). And of course, the Arthurian cycle.***The ultimate goal of each puzzle is to bring together the lock brick and the key brick. In the way, or there to help, or both are bricks with a color and pattern (each color always uses the same pattern). Every non-wall brick can be dragged left or right and they fall if there is nothing underneath. If matching bricks touch vertically or horizontally (except when falling past), they both disappear (complete with chain reactions). Thus, it has elements of Match-3, Sōkoban, and Joining puzzle games. Later levels adds horizontal or vertical conveyor bricks that can carry one or more bricks in a stack (again, by dragging the lift). And there are the scales. Effectively two vertical conveyor bricks bound by a rope and pulleys. They will remain balanced on the same row as long as the weight on them is equal (including no weight). But unequal weight will cause the heavy end to fall until it rests on a brick or wall. Thus, these are also environmental puzzles. A scripture is displayed and read after each level is completed. Solutions are available as flash movies (that will not 'just work' wine, they seem to be a very old and obscure macromedia format of flash). Difficulty increases with each puzzle and there are 100 puzzles.

The story of the game is about Sir Lancelot going to meet with the King to persuade him to restore the right to own land. Five arches, 100 guards and 100 locked gates (and 100 puzzles) are betwixt.

* Windows 2000 or XP
* 700 MHz Celeron CPU
* 128 MB RAM
* 16 MB VRAM
* 40 MB HD space***Despite what Blocksum looks like, it has very little in common with games like Tetris. Instead of new blocks falling down from the top, the blocks gradually rise upwards from the bottom with varying numbers on them. The goal is to combine the numeric blocks with others near them and form chains of blocks with the same number and at least as many blocks as the number states. The only blocks that don't get destroyed this way are blocks numbered as 1 and the special spheroid which occasionally appears which can be used to destroy all blocks with the number you combine them with.

So, for example, number 4 would require at least 4 blocks of size 4 chained for them to be destroyed, number 5 would require at least five blocks with the size of 5, and so on. However, there's a small delay between destroying the chained blocks, so you can chain even more for that same chain to be destroyed for more points, the blocks cease rising during this wait time, so combining even more is beneficial as it gives you some more time to see how to combine the others. The game ends when the blocks reach the top and you fail to release the "pressure".

Combinging works simply by selecting a block and combining it with any adjacent block in the four primary directios, the resulting block has the size and shape of the two former ones and the number of both summed up. However, you can only combine, not split, so combining too many creates large numbers that are difficult to chain because you need at least the equal number of blocks in the chain as the number states, the largest chains likely filling most of the screen.

The game effectively challenges your ability to take into account all the numbers in the playfield and combining them in a manner that keeps the game going, as any failure to do so may create dead ends in the combinations, or high-rises with mixed blocks that can't be cleaned out easily. The game speed doesn't increase with levels (not that I noticed it even if it did), but the game starts giving out precombined blocks with ever increasing sizes and in larger quantities, so combinations of smaller numbers becomes impossible.***Latest version: 1.0.8 (as of 2007-01-08)

Cold Fear Ubisoft Entertainment (Darkworks)2005There's only two things I dislike about this game. For one, being able to carry every single weapon found. This is supposed to be survival horror, you know. For second, the boss battle. I can't remember playing more aggravating boss battle than this on PC (console gamers seem to love these insanely overpowered bosses as they're so damn common on them). Way overpowered compared to anything else met and nothing prepares you for it. Finally used a trainer to get through it because the game was sitting at the final battle for over a month (probably one fourth of the game can be played in the same amount of time I invested solely on the boss battle).
Effectively you have to shoot the boss until he turns his attention to you, dodge the charge he makes either left or right, by staring at him in the aim view until he raises either of his arms to strike (so you know which side to dodge to), and repeat this until Anna escapes (which takes some 5+ charges). After this you have to wait for him to charge, dodge that, and then run back in front of him so he can grab you - YES! you have to intentionally let him grab you here. And then hit action button to get released. After you do this the third time, you can shoot him in the face. This has to be repeated about 3 times in total, so that's surviving about 9 more charges while managing to let him grab you. You don't have any healing items and you die on the third charge you fail to dodge. There's also the fact that the only way to dodge the boss is to stare down at him until he raises either of his arms (lest you wish to rely on luck as there's no pattern) and then swivel quickly to the opposite side, release aim and run. There's probably less than a second for you to do this, so imagine repeating this sequence few times, dying at the final part several dozen times because you can't do it fast enough, and that's pretty much it for playing this game through without cheating.

Tom gets infected second time but I don't recall him getting an antidote, so I have to assume he spreads the parasites to the rest of the world. After returning to his home village and finding the settlement plundered and destroyed, Bred swears to bring justice to the memory of his slain village. Uniting desolated outcasts, he forges a fighting unit to strike out against bandit gangs, drawing allies under his banner.

Desert Law is a new spin on the traditional real-time strategy that immerses players into a post-apocalyptic world where gasoline is the new world currency.

Players can have anything if they have gas to pay for it, or gamers can loose everything with one tactical mistake. Mankind is rebuilding civilization off the scattered remains of pre-doomsday technology with unfamiliar equipment and knowledge which it inherited from ancestors. Disorderly gangs roam the wastelands, and if gamers want to survive, they will have to fight to stay alive. Mad technicians of the world-gone-insane will give the players a chance to use more than 50 types of vehicles with different kinds of military equipment, from the ordinary car to radically altered homemade war machines. With more than 30 missions in an intriguing scenario gamers will have to fight all manner of desert scum before satisfying Bred's thirst for vengeance.

* Science-fiction real-time strategy with role-playing elements
* 29 missions filled with events
* 30 comic-book episodes
* 46 types of hellish weapons

The land, however, has transformed itself. The inhabitants of this breathtaking 3D world have lost their innocence and developed new weapons and technology. Creatures in the game have grown too. They can learn strategies, master new abilities and skills, lead armies into battle and be your ultimate unit. Black & White 2 includes other new elements, such as improved graphics and miracle effects such as rivers of fire and earthquakes that yield massive destruction.
