Player exposition

Culture concept

Player is made aware of things the protagonist does not and could not know, regardless if this has any use for progressing in the plot. Commonly involves a cinematic showing what the antagonist is doing at the time.

The first video game about Player exposition was released on October 1991.

Beamdog , Capcom and Terrible Toybox has published most of these games

This does not require breaking of the 4th wall as it is purely a narrative mechanic to deliver events that are happening roughly at the same time without having to recap them later on when someone tells the protagonist of it, if they're ever made aware of it.
