Player is made aware of things the protagonist does not and could not know, regardless if this has any use for progressing in the plot. Commonly involves a cinematic showing what the antagonist is doing at the time.

This does not require breaking of the 4th wall as it is purely a narrative mechanic to deliver events that are happening roughly at the same time without having to recap them later on when someone tells the protagonist of it, if they're ever made aware of it.
