Rama  Sierra (Dynamix)1996 22ndcentury arthurcclarke book future megastructure spacecraft-location Nobody has expected it - but one day, something entered the solar system from outside. The mysterious object appeared to be a gigantic cylinder with unknown properties. The International Space Agency (ISA) sent the special Newton Team onto the object, which they dubbed "Rama". The scientists soon discovered that Rama was, in fact, a huge biomechanical collector of alien species and their cities. One of the explorers, Valeriy Borzov, dies under mysterious circumstances. Another astronaut is sent to replace him, investigate the circumstances that led to his death, and perhaps uncover the mystery of Rama.

Rama is a puzzle-solving adventure game based on Arthur C. Clarke's series of science fiction novels. Visually and gameplay-wise, it mostly follows the template of Myst, consisting of pre-rendered backgrounds and live action scenes, and focusing almost entirely on complex logic puzzles. The player character has a special device called "wristcomp", which includes communicative, automapping, and teleporting abilities. A personal android provides descriptions of objects and comments on the events of the game.***

2000-09-22 - re-release by Infogrames
2001 another re-release by Infogrames***Although Unreal was great back in the days it first came out, it hasn't fared well against the ravages of time. It's difficult to get running on modern Windows operating systems (with hardware 3D acceleration, software rendering works fine) and when you do, it's a terrible realization that it doesn't look as great as you remember. Something 3D games are perhaps only now managing to accomplish (if even now), a level of detail that can survive for ages like 2D graphics reached long ago.

The difficulty setting is a bit curious as it adjusts the dodge-firing ratio, so the easiest difficulty may actually be the hardest since the enemies dodge a _lot_, while at hardest they practically just stand there and shoot at you a never ending stream of bullets/rockets/whatever. So, if you're poor shot, go for harder difficulties, if you're poor dodger, go for easy. The normal difficulty and those near it balance it out so it may be harder or easier depending on your skill and playstyle.***Great FP-Shooter, network-playing, Missiondisc available

If you're missing video in animations (but sound works fine) and missing text in main menu (and the mission log in-game, if you manage that far blind), try enabling
triple buffering
, this worked for me for some mysterious reason.***Minimum:

Wet Attack: The Empire Cums Back  cdv Software Entertainment (Interactive Strip)1999 brothel rating-sell-16 spacecraft-location Okay, I'm not even going to go over the pretense of a plot that the game has (read the Advertising Blurb for that), but, similar to Lula - The Sexy Empire, this game sort of comes in three parts.

The game starts, and occasionally puts you back, in a point-and-click adventure mode. Wander around. Use A with B. That kinda thing.

Secondly, once you get your spaceship, you do a bit of traveling about, bouncing from planet to planet, trading resources and managing your own 'business'. This is the main part of the game.

Thirdly, occasionally Pirates will try to attack your ship whilst you're en-route somewhere. To be honest, as long as you've got at least one mediocre gunner and mediocre guns you never need put yourself in the firing seat. In fact, you can quite easily go the whole game without entering the 3D view at all - a flaw perhaps...

In addition to this, there's chances of seeing lots of cut-scenes, half of which are moderately 'interesting'.

Do pay attention when you get close to the end of the game, by the way - You can quite easily finish without realizing it...

Unlike most other first person shooters, the purpose of System Shock was not to kill everything in sight; nor was it a "find the key to move onto the next level" game. You must form a party of up to five heroes to unite the human and monster races of the world in time to launch a joint campaign to close the gateways and save Enroth from planetary extinction.

For amongst the usual Knights and Clerics you might also find Trolls, Dragons, Dark Elves -- or any number of other unexpected races willing to follow you to the ends of the world -- or even further.

As you build your party, gain experience and build up your arsenal of weapons, knowledge, artifacts and spells, you will also have your wits and resolve tested to their limits by the traps and puzzles set by your enemies, as well as by the elementals themselves.

The adrenaline-pumping, top-down gameplay and audiovisual fireworks set the scene for this new action experience which also includes single computer (split keyboard or joystick) co-op play.

UPGRADE THOSE WEAPONS! Use a devastating arsenal of high-tech weaponry to dispose of the alien threat. Each weapon has multiple upgrades that maximize the carnage. Unleash the flames of the Flamethrower's Fuel Trap, cause mayhem with the Grenade Launcher's Poison Grenades, slash and dice the monsters with the Laser Rifle's Pinpoint Laser - and many more!

WHAT LURKS IN THE SHADOWS? Shadowgrounds uses cutting-edge realistic lighting and glow technology to light up the battlefield and create detailed shadows producing an atmosphere of fear. But the lighting and the flashlight also affect some aliens' behavior – take advantage of that and you can turn the tide in the game of fear by using your flashlight effectively.

DESTRUCTIBLE ENVIRONMENT! What good are weapons and special effects if you can't wreak havoc on the environment? Shadowgrounds lets you go all-out - glass shatters, ground shakes, trees fall, barrels explode and furniture blows to smithereens. You can use the environment to your advantage.

THEY'RE BIG AND NASTY! Big, brutal monsters await you. Prepare to face many different bosses who will do anything to stop your journey. They're nasty, blood-thirsty beasts, but don't give in to fear - remember to use the environment and the lighting to your advantage!

* Upgrade weaponry with powerful modifications.
* Face enormous monsters in boss battles.
* Destructible environment allows you to wreak havoc with your arsenal.
* Visit many exciting locations, including a secret military base and the alien-infested colony New Atlantis.
* Fight side-by-side with NPC allies against the massive alien hordes.
* Check security cameras and computer logs to investigate alien origins.

* Enjoy horrifying sound effects and a thrilling music soundtrack made exclusively for Shadowgrounds.

* 1.01 (?)***Not as great as I expected, and the driving around in Mako is horrible most of the time as well as the final bit of the ending just makes me feel sickly. My recommendation is, if you want to enjoy this game, stick to the main story and avoid any side exploration/quests completely, and try to bear the last bit of the ending (the parts where humans talk). Replayability comes mostly from dialogs as otherwise the game gets quite dull, and unfortunately you need those dialogs to progress your renegade/paragon ranks to open the more interesting dialog choices since these are separate from your regular leveling and skills.***Free expansions:

* Pinnacle Station (2009-10)***Comes on 2 DVDs but I have no idea what the second DVD is supposed to be for (backup?).***technomagic — the "biotics" used in the game do not really fit into any of the groups we have neatly, technomagic and psionics being the closest, but since the ME universe also has psychics, technomagic is all that there's left.
multiple endings — more like ending with variations; the core of it stays the same.
However, a notable difference is that if the alien council survived or not, depending on if you chose to save them. If you didn't, humanity will take charge, otherwise humanity is invited to take place as the fourth council race. Other, "more important", details stay the same regardless.
special agent protagonist — player is appointed a job similar to this somewhat early in the game, so this isn't true from the start.
nationalism — the protagonist and his higher ups are constantly trying to drive the cause of the Human Alliance, it's importance and how you're part of it is constantly hammered at you and occasionally you get to do the same for others.
unlikely sentients — Rachni, Geth to some degree (in mythos puts them on par with rogue A.I.), the plant creature, and some others

Two years after Commander Shepard repelled invading Reapers bent on the destruction of organic life, a mysterious new enemy has emerged. On the fringes of known space, something is silently abducting entire human colonies. Now Shepard must work with Cerberus, a ruthless organization devoted to human survival at any cost, to stop the most terrifying threat mankind has ever faced.

To even attempt this perilous mission, Shepard must assemble the galaxy’s most elite team and command the most powerful ship ever built. Even then, they say it would be suicide. Commander Shepard intends to prove them wrong.

Just like in the previous game, what you say to the other characters matters a great deal. Fortunately, the conversation system has been improved. The camera now pans around characters as they talk to one another to evoke a dramatic, cinematic feel. Also, Shepard can interrupt the conversation when given the appropriate prompt, taking situations into new directions that could help or hinder the mission.

Shepard is more customizable than ever, letting you create your ideal lead character — gender, facial features, class, and of course, attitude. Once you embark on missions, you’ll be treated to an improved battle system that lets you target weak points and blast off your enemy’s limbs with a variety of weapons.

Set out to lead your team to victory... or die at the hands of The Collectors. Either path is possible in BioWare’s smash hit, Mass Effect 2. Which destiny will you choose?***

[12]***Mejora lo visto en el anterior juego, añade el elemento de la munición y simplifica la exploración de planetas.

Nunca "Shepard" dijo tanto

7 de 10***Besides removing pretty much everything that was bad about ME1, ME2 has some other improvements besides that. Though I did miss driving with the Mako on the planet with the Thorian, I'm still glad planetary surveys had been simplified to manual scanner sweeps over the old drive around with the Mako till you find something of interest. The game's RPG elements have been simplified, as most weapon skills no longer exist, and the ones that exist are temporary boosts or similar. Biotics were largely unchanged, though some new powers were added. A unique(?) feature was introduced with every single skill branching on the last (fourth) level into two alternatives that give various benefits. Otherwise the game remains largely the same, though there's almost none of the tedious running "quests" ME1 had on the Citadel. The locations you visit are much smaller, but generally speaking more unique. You won't feel like you're visiting the same place for the thousandth time unless you really are. That comes obviously with the cost that there's less optional things to do besides scanning planets for minerals, though I didn't bother to scan any more than was necessary (which probably left well over two thirds of the systems unexplored).

To summarize: ME2 is better in almost all aspects I could care about in ME1's sequel, was somewhat amazed at this achievement myself.***Minimum:

9 de 10***Overall a nice turn-based tactical game, but might not be really up to one's expectations if you go looking for another of the old XCOM games. In short, this new XCOM game is extremely simplified and cut down version of the old X-COM with great number of features missing with only a few new ones to its name.

For those familiar with old XCOM, here's a list of differences. Notably there's missing multiple bases for the player to operate, aliens do not set up bases (there's only one alien base in the game), alien craft activity is barely existing (~13 alien craft encountered before the game was over), terror missions and similar do not involve actual enemy craft going to the sites, your soldiers can't pick up enemy gear during missions, grenades and rockets are special one-use gear instead of actual inventory items, inventory overall is severely simplified to a point where its limitations don't make sense, the game does not simulate projectile trajectories except for missed shots destroying scenery (missed shots can no longer hit secondary targets) and auto/burst fire is treated as single shot in terms of hitting or not, as such cover is simply statistical wonder instead of literal cover (shots "penetrate" the cover - with no damage to the cover - when they hit the soldier hiding behind it rather than hitting exposed bits), alien craft interception relies on one-use power ups you need to craft (though they go largely unused), aliens do not attack XCOM base(s), you can only have one skyranger hence you're specifically forbidden to complete missions that appear "simultaneously" with others (you have to choose one, the others automatically fail, their timing and duration essentially synced), interceptor and skyranger management is simplified, chrysalids and robotic aliens can not be captured and studied, aliens do not have jobs (there's only one live specimen of each species to interrogate and beyond that, nothing), battle scanner is missing, arbitrary range limitations to weapons (not allowed to shoot if target is beyond certain range), incendiary weapons are missing, stun grenades are missing, quite a few alien species are missing, levels tend to be far smaller and streamlined (with very few exceptions), action points have been replaced with simplified version that has glaring limitations, soldiers have 360 degree vision, reloading and shooting in same turn is impossible, ammunition is handwaved away completely, aliens do not have morale, taking aliens alive has little far less use, and probably quite a few other things. New features, for those that care: upgrade system accessible via the foundry, psychic damage ability, classes, class perks, two-point system, and probably some others.

Personally I think this new XCOM is good game, but just does not hold up to what the old X-COM games were about. If you want the old experience, you're better off with the old games, UFO: Extraterrestrials, UFO: Aftermath/-shock/-light, or the many fan-made remakes.

Note that I played the game through on "classic" difficulty (the one just below brutal), which may have had something to do with some of my poor opinions.***EAN-13:
5 026555 056151
(European/Worldwide)***

We’re taking a dynamic AI approach to controlling enemies in Dark Matter, which makes for some unique combat. Some creatures will shy from the light, others will be attracted to it.

Warrior drones will rush you while support fighters will hang back and pelt you from a distance with powerful acid bolts. Wounded enemies will retreat, to bring you in harm’s way as you pursue them, and larger enemies will require some precise tactics, if you’re planning to do anything but get eaten by them.
Prioritizing your targets, using the right weapon for the job, picking the best ammo for each enemy, those are the things that will get you through the game, if we don’t manage to scare you to death first, of course. Which we’ll also be trying to do.

* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lGXDM3LGnk***For any Aliens fans, this game will be horribly disappointing. Despite the gratuitous fanservice from including LV-426, Hadley's Hope, Sulaco, the Derelict and its dead Jockey pilot, Hicks, and various other things from the movies, this game utterly fails to deliver on the atmosphere of the films. Alien acidic blood is only a minor annoyance, player can trivially fight the aliens in melee, the aliens themselves seem incredibly lazy, the way player can carry ~10 different weapons with separate ammo for each, extremely linear locations, and whatever else make this feel unsatisfying when you come to it expecting a proper Aliens game. The license seems almost wasted on it considering how much they deviate from what fans of the franchise would expect. If they had made this a game with no ties to Aliens franchise it would've probably been half-decent, but as it is, it fails to be what it is supposed to be. The graphics are the main point where this actually is quite good at, though for PC game they're kinda low fidelity, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a game that's published on the usual platform trio (X360/PS3/PC).

To summarize: fans of the Alien franchise, keep away. People who don't care for the franchise on the other hand, this can work as a mediocre tube shooter.
