Kain betrayed you, when you showed him that you had evolved beyond him. So he granted you death, by ripping out your new wings and throwing you down in to the Abyss. Dead, at least that's what you thought, you re-awaken in the Underworld, right under the nose the Elder. Confused, weak, and no longer a vampire, you set out to settle some matters with your former master, Kain.

[spoiler]... Although you were no longer a vampire, you still suffered some of their natural weaknesses, such that of water burning you like acid or sun scorching your skin like fire. However, you rid most of these weaknesses from yourself over time as you devour the souls of your slain enemies. You're young in your new form, though, and can't hold your physical form forever in the material realm, constantly draining your strength, the longer you stay there unsated. So at any time you're weakened too much, you're transported back into the spirit realm where you can sate your hunger with the lost souls. Your ability to transport yourself back and forth between material and spiritual realms is fundamental to your success, and adds an interesting depth to some puzzles and fights. However, you're practically immortal, even if you were to die, as if you could, you're transported back to the underworld, below throbbing tendrils and the everwatchful gaze of the Elder.[/spoiler]

The King's mines are set in a large magical sphere and are worked by prisoners captured from across the kingdom. And it is into this sphere that you are thrown, charged with the task of delivering a letter – a letter that might just mark the turning point in the war against the Orcs. The Gothic world is constantly changing and evolving: events will occur that can alter the relationships between several groups of characters. NPCs are fully rounded with their own daily habits and relationships: they get up, work, go to bed, chat with each other and so on. More significantly, monsters cooperate with each other and are able to figure things out; they have individual perception. Some can be lured with food or noise, some will run away from bright light. Some can only hear or detect movement. Each character has the ability, with the correct training, to improve particular skills as the game progresses: training with the master of the sword, for example, will result in a character displaying noticeably more skilled swordsmanship. It is so much more satisfying to witness the effect of the skills you have learnt when they are visible in your character as oppose to a meaningless number rating, improving say, from 8 to 10. These 'optical' improvements are for the whole range of skills included in Gothic. The two different classes of magic (which are absolutely independent from each other) work along the same lines.***

Cold Fear Ubisoft Entertainment (Darkworks)2005There's only two things I dislike about this game. For one, being able to carry every single weapon found. This is supposed to be survival horror, you know. For second, the boss battle. I can't remember playing more aggravating boss battle than this on PC (console gamers seem to love these insanely overpowered bosses as they're so damn common on them). Way overpowered compared to anything else met and [i]nothing[/i] prepares you for it. Finally used a trainer to get through it because the game was sitting at the final battle for over a month (probably one fourth of the game can be played in the same amount of time I invested solely on the boss battle).

[spoiler=Grievances with boss battle;Hide]Effectively you have to shoot the boss until he turns his attention to you, dodge the charge he makes either left or right, by staring at him in the aim view until he raises either of his arms to strike (so you know which side to dodge to), and repeat this until Anna escapes (which takes some 5+ charges). After this you have to wait for him to charge, dodge that, and then run back in front of him so he can grab you - YES! you have to intentionally let him grab you here. And then hit action button to get released. After you do this the third time, you can shoot him in the face. This has to be repeated about 3 times in total, so that's surviving about 9 more charges while managing to let him grab you. You don't have any healing items and you die on the third charge you fail to dodge. There's also the fact that the only way to dodge the boss is to stare down at him until he raises either of his arms (lest you wish to rely on luck as there's no pattern) and then swivel quickly to the opposite side, release aim and [i]run[/i]. There's probably less than a second for you to do this, so imagine repeating this sequence few times, dying at the final part several dozen times because you [i]can't[/i] do it fast enough, and that's pretty much it for playing this game through without cheating.[/spoiler]

However, if you cannot shoot, then there is your RECON, hacking device enabling you to remotely control various devices you meet on your way through the dark halls and corridors of Alpha Prime. Gameplay
Penumbra: Overture is a first person adventure game that focuses on story, immersion and puzzles. Instead of using violence to progress the player has to use his/her wits to guide Philip on his quest to unravel the past. Played from a first person viewpoint, Penumbra is very different from other adventure games. Not only is it powered by a 3D engine utilizing cutting edge technology, it also has an advanced physics system which allow for a never before seen environment interaction.

The weapon system differs from your average game; swinging a melee weapon is done using the mouse, which increases the realistic feel of combat. Fighting enemies is not something best done with brute force though, in most situations fighting is a last resort and the player is often better of using his/her wits. The AI of the enemies will also do its best to hunt and scare the player. The creatures encountered can break down doors, use group co-ordination, interact with the physics and more.

Penumbra: Overture will keep players on the edge as they have to explore scary and immerse environments never knowing what is behind the next corner. The world is detailed, graphical as well as a story wise making the player feel part of the world as secrets are uncovered.

Seamless, non-linear gameplay

In place of textual dialogue that most games rely on we used voice acting to drive the story without interrupting the gameplay.

Through a realtime interface, Naija can sing songs and cast spells without going to a menu screen. With practice, these spells can be cast easily to interact with the environment, solve puzzles, or combine them for strategic effect during combat. Certain spells will allow you to change form, creating new ways of playing the game depending on the form chosen.

7 sobre 10***The game left me feeling it was incomplete and that the main plot had a lot to be desired of. The side quests were however fairly entertaining and far better (and time consuming) than the main plot, giving this a bit of an impression on Elder Scrolls series which also thrives from side-quests rather than the main plot.

However, unlike most RPGs ever, player can actually fight and defeat end-game opponents fairly early on as combat is mainly based on player skill rather than numbers (attributes, statistics, etc.), though due to lacking numbers these will take a bit more time. Even the final boss is beatable with fairly low level character (maybe as low as 10) since it's not that dependent on player having any numerical advantages. Levels mainly making combat go faster because you deal more damage and makes mistakes more forgiving, but they don't really help you fight the enemy, since levels do not make you immune to shield breaks, enemy dodging, or cause you to dodge automatically.

Overall this is fairly enjoyable game, but loses most of its appeal once you have nothing else than the main plot to do (around chapter 2 or 3). The ending is also disappointing as it does not really solve the original issue at all. Variety of smaller bugs can make the game experience jarring and the jest spell not having any effect it is claimed to have (beyond making characters laugh) despite frequent claims that it does, does make the game feel rushed.***An epic story in an authentic world hand-crafted with an eye for detail and populated by "real", plausible characters. A Mysterious Volcanic Island The heavy tremors on the island bode ill for its inhabitants. Ancient temples have risen from the ground recently, bizarre creatures are terrorising the area. They send an exhibition to this remote island, but a storm takes hold of the ship and destroys it at sea. 7 de 10***Besides removing pretty much everything that was bad about ME1, ME2 has some other improvements besides that. Though I did miss driving with the Mako on the planet with the Thorian, I'm still glad planetary surveys had been simplified to manual scanner sweeps over the old drive around with the Mako till you find something of interest. The game's RPG elements have been simplified, as most weapon skills no longer exist, and the ones that exist are temporary boosts or similar. Biotics were largely unchanged, though some new powers were added. A unique(?) feature was introduced with every single skill branching on the last (fourth) level into two alternatives that give various benefits. Otherwise the game remains largely the same, though there's almost none of the tedious running "quests" ME1 had on the Citadel. The locations you visit are much smaller, but generally speaking more unique. You won't feel like you're visiting the same place for the thousandth time unless you really are. That comes obviously with the cost that there's less optional things to do besides scanning planets for minerals, though I didn't bother to scan any more than was necessary (which probably left well over two thirds of the systems unexplored).

To summarize: ME2 is better in almost all aspects I could care about in ME1's sequel, was somewhat amazed at this achievement myself.***[b]Minimum:[/b]
