Semi-common features:
* Compound eyes
* Unusually large number of of eyes (compare spiders with 4, wasps with 5)
* Angular/sharp features, commonly sleek limbs
* Sparse but noticeable body hair/fur
* Noticeable mandibles, especially spider-like fangs
* Insect-like abdomen (behind hind legs)
* Chittering or clicking mode of speech, often do this idly when they aren't even speaking (a bit like engine hum, but for insects).
* Multi-jointed limbs (1 or more joints than humans have, when only counting wrist/ankle, elbow/knee, and shoulder/hip joints)
* Wings, especially under a protective ("chitin") carapace
* Mantis-like raptorial forelimbs
Insectoids can easily look very similar (confusingly so) to crustacoids, though tend to lack the generally rounded shape, pincers and eyestalks.
