Carry capacity is limited by the number of available slots. Some items may take more than one slot and some items may be stacked within single slot.

Notable people involved: James Ohlen, Markus Persson 'Notch', Alex Quick, Alexander Shuskov and George Kamitani

In case the items can occupy more than one slot, this functions as a half-way solution to items with actual volume (since single coin still takes same amount of space as whatever the maximum a coin stack can have).

Items that stack are usually money, potions/hypos, and ammo. Often the stacks have limits and a new stack is created when the limit is reached.
