There's essentially only ~3 variations of generalized fighting styles for pole arms: spear-like stabbing, quarterstaffing and general staff fighting (e.g. bo). Most pole arms use either of the two first, with majority employing quarterstaffing. In fiction quarterstaffing tends to be the least common with the third being the most numerous, naginata being most commonly used in the quarterstaffing fashion though it often mixes all three.
