Earliest GPUs to support Shader Model 3 were GeForce 6 series chipsets and Radeon R520 (>= X1300) chipsets. For DirectX games this means they require at least version 9.0c of it.

For OpenGL games, this means the developers are going to tell the OpenGL users what DirectX users need to know.

The first Shader Model 3.x video game was released on May 1, 2003.

Ubisoft, Kalypso Media Digital and Electronic Arts published most of these games.
