Generally this is the electric grid powering a city, though anything else that mimics this network are also applicable.

Commonly uses above ground poles that keep the electric cables away from anything that could harm them or from causing harm to anything else. In SciFi/Fantasy settings these are likely pylons or similar that extend energy beams between them.
